Today, Anna dives into the Rolex Milgauss Z-Blue, a showstopping watch that managed to see some serious aftermarket premiums.
The original Milgauss was designed to solve the problem of magnetism affecting mechanical watches in the 1956, using a shield around the movement to divert magnetic fields. The reference was the 6543, and it featured a rotating bezel, dauphine hands, and a black honeycomb dial. The 1019 in 1960 was a wholly new design, and then in 1988 the Milgauss essentially died. It took until 2007 for the watch to reenter the brand's lineup, featuring the signature, fan favorite lightning bolt seconds hand.
Then, in 2014, the Z-Blue entered the market, and started trading above retail almost instantly. But why? Well, it's arguably one of the most fun, unique Rolex models to come out ever, with the blue color scheme, the orange lightning bolt second hand, and a green tinted crystal. It's powered by the 3131 movement, a no-date option, housed in a polished 40mm case which made it incredibly versatile for a range of wrists. And because of all of these features, the end result is something absolutely incredible that fans of the brand couldn't get enough of.
