Much better in hand than in photos. Ignore anyone who hasn’t actually physically seen the watch. Not a fan of bracelets generally and bought mine today on the fabric strap. Just lovely. Solid, simple, legible, crisp. Perfect tool watch.

I really love a fully brushed case and bracelet, it's supposed to be a tool watch. And that's exactly what it looks like. Also I like that the dial is not full of text. I like the dial as it is. So for me they did a good job, your negative points are quite positive for me. Rolex doesn't do tool watches anymore imo.

I have it and love it. I also have a couple explorers (36&39) I honestly love the new ranger. It will get much more wrist time than my Rolex’s and my other Tudor’s. And one of your biggest issues doesn’t exist. The hand set is without a doubt polished and plays very well with the light. There’s also a small polished edge on the bezel. You would know this if you ever handled the watch. Details me dude…this is the watch a lot of people have actually been waiting for. Destined to fail? Give up on the click bait and review watches you actually saw in person. Bashing nice things always makes you sound cool though, right?

I'm sorry your Explorer is broken. I don't really agree with you about the Tudor Ranger being destined to fail. I think it is targeted toward a buyer who is different from you. They don't want to draw attention to themselves with their watch. The Ranger is for someone who doesn't want bling. This is for the person who wears t-shirts and old leather jackets and wants a really good automatic watch that will stand up to daily wear all at a great price. He or she doesn't want sparkle, he wants to add patina through the dings and scratches of life. This is for a person who is very comfortable in his or her own skin.

I absolutely love the Ranger. It’s simplicity and versatility at a fraction of the cost of an Explorer makes it one of my favorite watches. This is a bad take on a great watch.

I ordered the Tudor Ranger at my AD this week. Its uncomplicated simplicity is what I like about it. It tells the time clearly and that is all I want in a watch these days. And its reasonable price means I won't care if I scratch it. If other people don't like it, I really couldn't give a shit. I like it and that's what matters.

Unless you handle one in the flesh you won’t see why it’s such a good watch ..it’s the best case/ bracelet and clasp combo by a mile in the Tudor catalog

Great video! I ordered my ranger last friday and now I know why. Because I will read the time and not a book. And because I know how this brushed case will look after one year of wearing with all these little scratches and dings and dongs. Man, this is the watch that Rolex doesn't offer under their name because of the lack of balls. I think the Explorer ever was a blinky toy for rich boys that never will explore anything. This new Ranger is reduced to the minimum. It's a watch. Maybe a high quality toolwatch. This is MY WATCH.

I like the ranger because it's a luxury watch you can wear in potentially shady places, and most people wouldn't be any wiser, for a great price.

What is this review all about! It is a ranger not an explorer and comparing the two is just ridiculous. The difference in price is absolutely massive. For a 38/39mm tool watch, for the price, the ranger is brilliant value. If your going to pull it apart, at least have one in your studio to justify what your saying.

Picked my Ranger up yesterday from AD. Love it!!!! I like the brushed look personally. The bracelet is the best Tudor version so far. This is how all Black Bays should be.

Thats why I love the Pelagos so much. It is by far the most unique Tudor design without steeling from Rolex.

How can you review a watch that’s not in front of you ? The Ranger is actually a great looking tool watch . Tool watch !!!!! Get it . The brushed case and the polished hands … not Matt as you described do actually play on the light from many angles. The dial is in my opinion designed perfectly to be easily read, who cares about a gap really. The bracelet is Fantastic and for the price it’s a great watch . Why buy a explorer when this is a third of the price .

I think the KZfaq watch experts are hilarious. "Negative space", "needs to say chronometer", if I buy a watch, I know what it is. Too many words on the dial is old fashioned clutter. Just aside from the Ranger, although a Tudor thing, I've got to say I don't like the smile dial and to state 'self winding' I think is unnecessary. Great that Tudor made the Ranger with (polished) hands that are supremely legible and they removed all the nonsense. "While I was driving a car my Rolex reflected the light well", a cheap watch can do the same. Great that Tudor made a beautiful, nostalgic tool watch, a watch that meets an exacting tool watch design criteria. The cream lume appearance in daylight (you said green because you've heard other KZfaqrs say it, it isn't green as it's seen in daylight) looks great against the textured dial that offers a transition from charcoal to black as a bright light environment is exchanged for dark and with an elegant dial appearance over which the hands are the prominent feature without needing to battle against the light show of dress watch indices. If you don't like a tool watch, don't buy it and don't review it from a inappropriate perspective. You shouldn't be so opinionated without even handling one. A desperate clickbait video.

I’m personally not interested in this watch but I can’t deny the fact that it looks pretty ok to me. The brushed case and bracelet are giving this watch its own personality just like my NTTD Seamaster. Finally a watch without all the technical specs and properties written on the dial. I don’t need the back of my car to say it has airco, ABS, fuel injection and a turbo under the hood. I know it’s all there and that should be enough. I hope all people who are purchasing this watch will create some awesome memories while wearing it.

Good thing tastes are different. Most points here are reasons, why I bought it on the day after it's announcement and I've worn it every day since. And believe me: The press shots don't do it justice and there's definitely some nice light play going on!

I think Tudor did a really good job with the Ranger. Perfect? No, but really good. 37-38mm with white lume and a polished bezel? Home run. That said, I desperately want Tudor to put the MT5400 in the regular BB36 with a T-fit clasp, like they did with the S&G. I’d probably stop pining for an Explorer. However, for that reason, I’m assuming their business daddy will say no.

You should be better informed. The curved self winding text is reserved for non in house movements. They wouldn't put it on this watch.

I say at least try it ... before you make a call - don't let a perceived consensus let you make an informed judgement .

I recall reading that the curved "self winding" text on Tudor watches, is only used for those with ETA movements. So, when (presumably) the BB36 gets an in-house Tudor movement, it will have different text.

You didn't break your Explorer! The watch was sold to you because it had mechanical issues, it just took you 2 full days to discover those issues. Somebody decided that it would be easier to just sell the watch than to figure out what's wrong with it and to pay for the service. Oh, and I own BB36 and I agree with you that it's a fantastic watch!

As mentioned by others, I do agree the watch had issues beforehand. I seriously doubt you broke the watch by diving/swimming with it. Most likely the seller had dropped or banged it around hard enough to dislodge the rotor.

Hello I’m not agree with you concerning the Tudor Ranger. I had this watch for 1 week now, on my wrist, not on pictures. And it’s a dam F… watch. I like the 39mm, the fact that it’s all about simplicity, tooltastic, and discreet. First Tudor, and I’m not disappointed.

You are right with the fact that I don’t like the title of the video. That’s just for klicks and has nothing to do with the watch. But keep on and stay in line with the rest of the „experts“ 🤷🏻‍♂️

Here’s a crazy idea watch fans - stop comparing Rolex to Tudor !!! Just because they are linked doesn’t mean you HAVE to compare them all the time. For me personally, anyone paying £8/9k (that’s after market prices driven up by after market sellers like T&H) for a field watch has lost their mind. The fact you’d have an issue that your field watch doesn’t have shiny bits makes me think you don’t want a field watch in the first place ! Owning a 39mm Exp I’d def buy this Tudor however it’s more comparable to my Sinn 556 or even my mechanical Hamilton Khaki Field than it is to a flashy Rolex. I can guarantee you this - it won’t ‘fail’ !

I was on my way through London at Heathrow heading back to the US 4 days ago (9/28/22) and of course I had to go into the Watches of Switzerland in the International terminal. Finally got to see the Ranger in person (my Tudor AD sucks and rarely ever has stock). They had the bracelet version and with the power of my US dollar (sorry UK) I was able to buy it at a really good price. I wrapped it up and took it home. Finally on wrist I will say that this is an impressive watch in my mind. I know this is supposed to be a re-interpretation of an older Ranger but I can't help but think of the Rolex Explorer 1016 from the past. This may not be a Tudor hit. I think the 39mm Pelagos and Black Bay Pro have taken that role, but it is a really solid contender for people looking for a great field watch. As long as they don't listen to too many reviews (like this one) before they try it on wrist, which is where this watch wants to live. This watch is so much better than this review implies. From a male perspective this watch is like a really nice looking woman who doesn't wear a lot of make-up and puts on nice, but not flashy clothing or jewelry, and can carry a very interesting conversation. At the end of a date you just want her! That's the girl I have and so is this Ranger.

Perfect Bracelet: 20 mm fully brushed, smooth tapper ( unlike the stepped 58’s), no rivets screwed pins, ceramic ball bearings & T-Fit clasp. Not a perfect watch but there is a sea of more expensive watches with a lot less going for them including their looks.

I have one. Was on the fence about it, was looking for BB 36 or 41. Tried it on at an AD, and felt so comfortable. Back and forth for 2-3 days and got it. I get the negative comments about the style, painted indices, the off white markers, the space on the dial...etc... but hey, it the perfect watch for an imperfect guy...so we go together ha ha. Had it on at home, which is something I never do with watches; I usually take them off once I get in the door. A tool watch that can hold up to use, is all right by me.

I actually like the simplicity of the Ranger; don't mind the negative space on the dial. Have already purchased it from my AD, just haven't picked it up. Can't wait to see the new bracelet as it seems to be a big upgrade to an already great bracelet. As for the Explorer, I have the new 36mm and the 39mm. Go with swimming with mine a couple of times a week and have never had any problems with it. Not sure what happened to yours but both of mine are rock solid and never had any issues with them.

I picked one up and have a few thoughts: -I bought it in a bracelet but ordered the fabric strap. I think it will look fantastic on the strap as it will move away from being a giant chunk of brushed steal. -the dial has a slight shimmer effect in direct sunlight which is cool. -it’s supremely comfortable. -I wish the lume was white. It would be an absolute home run if so. -I do wish it had just one more line of text, maybe in a smile configuration

I feel like we as watch nerds whined and moaned when Pelagos had so much text on the watch and now we are moaning about how LITTLE writing is at the bottom of the watch. Tudor just cant win apparently. Tough crowd.

The original Ranger, with a similar dial layout, is gorgeous. The problem here is the SIZE. Blowing up a 34mm watch to 39mm is what creates all that negative space on the dial.

dude, i swim and do stupid things with my watch and nothing can mess up its inside, the Explorer can absolutely withstand your jump into the water and your freaking little swim, let's wait and hear about it after the hospital time =)))

Personally I quite like the ranger, but it do think it looks like a Tudor homage of a rolex explorer. I also like all the points Michael doesn’t, lack of writing on the dial, hand style, brushed etc… but he likes white watches so what does he know! 😊

I will wear mine in Steel and Nato, can’t wait. I also own a Pelagos blue that I absolutely adore

Agreed on everything about the Tudor Ranger but I disagree on the Explorer 39. Maybe you should hit the gym and grow a pair, girly man. The 39mm is just fine as it is.

I love this watch. It has become 1/2 of my minimalist 2-watch collection.

I’ve handled the Ranger and it’s the lume colour that bothered me. The rest is just stories you tell yourself. The more you show it the more I think I should grab one.

At that price point there are many other options (IWC, Breitling, Longines, Even Seamaster). The Ranger just doesn't make a spark, even the BB Pro - which I've seen people off-load at 20% under retail.

Only negative i think is the colour of the lume. It's a bit overbearing while i love that it's a no-date, brushed, no text watch. I prefer minimalistic tool watches with a vintage vibe so this one is worthy of seeing in person. How is no text on the dial a negative thing? I always thought that info should be on the caseback while keeping the dial balanced with minimal text. You wouldn't wear your brand new shirt with the tag still on it. It's kinda like that for me.

It shouldn’t have broke since the Explorer is literally made to absorb shocks. I would tend to think that there was an error with the last time it was services. Or maybe you got a great deal on it exactly because there was a known problem with it and that person/location wanted to dump the watch problem onto someone else. I’m sorry this happened to you. I hope you got it serviced and kept the watch. I’m still saving up for an Explorer. I love it!

Well, I think you've misjudged. First, you say the BB is good, but this isn't? They're essentially the same watch with a different dial, brushing and no ratcheting bezel! Additionally, I feel the previous version of the Ranger was too large for many people and the rather stark design makes it look bigger still, by dropping the size to 39mm and changing the dial size they effectively make the watch appear smaller and increase it's appeal to a broader audience. Will, it ever challenge the Black Bay? No, but I don't think Tudor expect it to.

Looks pretty good to me. Probably could use a little more text, but if you're gonna err, err on the side of less is more. In any case it's not for me.

To me the BB58 blue is the perfect watch. The funny thing we did a family road trip to Orlando from the Toronto area a few month ago and I took my BB58 on a road. The watch did withstand everything perfectly. A several hot days in the Disney parks with kids. Swimming in the wavy ocean on a Cocoa Beach, pools, Disney park attractions and so on :)

The main reason I bourght the Ranger was its a true tool watch. If you want bling get the Explorer, if you want a watch that you could travel the world with the Ranger's the one. PLEASE HAVE THE WATCH IN HAND WHEN REVIWING

I don’t think, that such a vintage watch as the ranger needs to be as “blinky” as a Rolex. It’s not a Rolex, it’s a Tudor, it’s a completely different watch, so comparing it to a Rolex doesn’t really make any sense. For me it is a perfectly crafted watch with a nostalgic touch to it for 2800€ with modern clasp and a beautiful bracelet. Just can’t understand all the negative comments about it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

They literally already make the perfect face for the Ranger just in a different color. All they needed to do was put the face from the BB58 bronze in clean black and white. (Preferably snowflake hands because that is tudors identity now, but the shovel hand is still ok I guess)

Hands down the best do everything go anywhere watch. I got rid of my bb58 blue for the ranger. It packs so much punch with the in house COSC certified movement. The dimensions are amazing and the bracelet paired with the uncle seiko half link wears beautifully. I just think you are going off what the mass media is telling you instead of spending sometime with the actual watch. It’s designed to be a tool watch and not a Rolex explorer.

You didn’t mention the polishing on the edge of the bezel which is a really nice detail. I have the 36 mm Explorer and am very satisfied, so I’m not in the market for the Ranger, but I love it for what it is.

Sorry to hear about your Explorer. They do say that quartz movements are more durable for that sort of activity, which is making me want a more high end quartz watch that looks great and can cope better with sports and swimming.

I have the Heritage Ranger and I think it has character. The new Ranger seems to have an overall bland appearance, but I think it needs to be seen in person for final judgement.

Tudor Ranger looks good. Tudors are well made watches. Brush finishing also means that it'll have less scratches than the Rolex bracelets with polished finishing. I think Tudor Ranger is a perfect first watch for watch enthusiasts that want to where an expensive watch all day.

I think you guys are wrong on this. Yes the Tudor Ranger is plain and ‘boring’ but it’s not. Once you see it in person and wear it on the wrist it all makes sense. It’s made to be a tool watch not a piece of jewellery and that’s exactly what it is. Being brushed keeps it looking sharp for longer and the size weight dimensions all work perfectly. Everyone for the last few years have been moaning that they want Tudor to this kind of release and then when they listen to their audience and do, the same audience moan that it’s boring. Can’t please everyone I guess but I’m more than happy with mine and it’s my favourite watch at the moment. I think this watch will not fail at all and will be a great seller for Tudor and a great watch to add to your collection

This an old video that popped up, but I’m glad they so different. I like the Ranger to be a tool watch and I want to eventually buy a 39mm Explorer for the flash but not overdone like most watches. The Ranger is a good daily wear with jeans and the Explorer would be better for going out. I don’t think you want the watch playing with light all the time if the idea is a field watch. I don’t think it cheapens the Ranger, it is what it’s supposed to be. Look at the brushed rail master, it’s not cheap.

I'm not convinced the lack of text is the problem with the ranger. You're right though that there is nothing to catch your eye on the ranger. I think IWC Spitfire does this well with "boring" design. I think Tudor should have studied IWC.

How does a brushed watch equate to cheap looking? How? The PCL oyster bracelet is horrid looking compared to the brushed Rolex ones. Makes no sense. A good watch nonetheless but it felt rushed and seems like you just wanted to put something out. Also, clickbait title

Loved your accountant joke haha, you basically described me and many others in this hobby. It's interesting that you prefer the BB36 over the 58. I like both, but after owning a 58, I can't help but look at the 36 and think it's the same thing but the bezel just fell off or something. I can't think of another watch line where the dial is the same layout, just one model has a dive bezel, and one does not. The explorer definitely seems like a more well rounded watch, although I agree with you about the exterior bezel. Anyway great video as always!

Late to this video but thought Id comment. Ive owned the 39mm Ranger for about a year and recently picked up a 40mm Explorer 1. Love them both, but the Ranger just wears better on my 6 and ³/⁴ inch wrist. Its perfect. It feels like a cross between an old Explorer and a Panerai dial, and I dont mind getting it dirty. Great watch.

FYI - The curved text between the center and 6 six o'clock on Tudors indicate a non-in-house ETA movement.

Good video and I like the focus on the small items that really differentiate and make a difference. The contrast between polished vs brushed and how this plays with the light, as well as the proportions on the dial and lack of dead space. Great future video on which watches and underrated gems do this best….

Poopoo kaka...on zhe bezel, right👍thats what I thought when I had my 214270...at least the Ranger gets that detail better...in real life, the Ranger isn't perfect but better than in pictures, especially the dial layout. Compared to comparable offerings, e.g. Omega Railmaster, it's imho definitely better looking and a better price proposition.

I have been watch shopping for over a year, looking online at Omega, Sinn, Longines, Tudor, Zenith, IWC and many others...in search of a sporty tool watch...I narrowed it down to the Omega Railmaster and the Tudor Ranger...today I went to the local jeweler who carries both...I tried on the Railmaster and while it was a beautiful watch, it just didn't do it for me...then I tried on the Ranger in the green nato strap...that's all it took...such a classy understated tool watch and exactly what I had been searching for which I purchased on the spot...and the Ranger was almost half the price of the Omega. I considered the Rolex Explorer, but I already own a very nice Rolex thunderbird with white dial on a Jubilee bracelet and for me the Explorer looked too similar and not like a true tool watch. I am looking forward to wearing my new Ranger casually or when I go hiking etc...when I want something pretty and shiny, I will break out the Rolex.

I disagree with you on the Tudor release. I am sorry I think that Tudor got it right. One it looks like the original Ranger. The put it in a 39mm case which is exactly what people wanted based off how people reacted when Rolex when back to 36mm. Second the hands are what is on the original Ranger. The only thing where I agree is on the Text is it should have had Self-Winding or said Officially Certified. On the polishing it is exactly how the original watch was polished. Dial it exactly what an Ranger dial would look with age on the lume. This is not a Rolex this is a Tudor. I really do not think you get that part. Enjoy the video

I agree. 39-42mm look better on my wrist but I cant stand empty space on the dial. It either needs a beautiful dial like a grand seiko, a complication of some sort or a large dive bezel that makes the dial smaller. Maybe they could have added a have index next to each numeral to push them towards the center a bit.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Tudor Ranger is such a hot item that you'll have to wait up to 6 months in Malaysia.
