Yep you're 💯 correct, there's even buckets that have rippers that go into a socket on the back side of bucket so when you curl up your bucket & or pull you stick / cloud in it rips / brakes up the rock or hard pan or also know as kaliechie so you don't ware out the teeth so fast.

Q&A; sitting over drives while excavating with new model equipment; dealer and techs say yes, Foreman say no, owner says whatever works best to get the job done, old habits die hard. Another view point I'd like to hear from you is excavators with blades small to mid size 15k-35k weight class. Are they the exception? Good video, looks like you need a hefty pair of side cutters or at least a block shank bolted on. Hands down ITR teeth have been the go to when my companies ask for replacements. OEM hasn't been cutting it for us as we've experienced several potentially deadly failures in the past few months of of our rental units. On a side note anyone ever mentioned you've got the looks of Val Kilmer in Tombstone?

Q&A question I will work on that. Have had many arguments on just those questions. I have a ripper shank as an attachment, you will see that in the next video I am working on. Not sure what you mean by "deadly failures" I have never heard the Val Kilmer thing but thanks. I will have to do a comparison photo.

@@TheLeverMonkey rental cat 325 next gen sheared a tooth while ripping asphal; the sheard end flung across the trench while the pipe layers were standing near by

That leads to more questions. Was the operator using the teeth to pry up the asphalt or was he hitting the asphalt with the teeth to cut it? Both of those things are a no no just for that reason.

@@TheLeverMonkey doing a manhole rehab, pulling up on the asphalt before the lid in an attempt to disturb the seal between the lid and the cone

I’m a Fan of a Good Set of Side Cutters for Both My Mass Excavating and Trenching Buckets. I Commute Towards the Shore for Work, not much need for Tiger Teeth there, it’s Sand, Clay and Bank Run type Material. The More You Know. I’ll catch you on the next one, Keep It Safe Out There Sir

What is the reasoning flat part of the tooth up?

It has to do with the way the teeth are made. They have a slight angel to them. I want the angel down, so when I am makting a grade pass I can cut with the teeth and use the bottom of the bucket to smoth out and compact the botom. Makes a nice grade for the labors to walk on. If the teeth are fliped the other way you have to open the bucket more to get them to cut, then make a second pass with the botom of the bucket to make it nice. Hope this helped to explain why I use the flat side up.
