The Strait of Hormuz, “the jugular of the global economy," has become a useful bargaining chip for Iran.
Become a Video Lab member! bit.ly/video-lab
The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway that lies between Iran and Oman. This 21 mile-wide passage supports 20% of the world’s oil supply. A closure of this waterway could send the global economy into a tailspin.
In recent months, several oil tankers have been seized, attacked and harassed. These oil tankers - and this narrow water passage - are at the center of the conflict between the US and Iran. It's a conflict that spans decades and has the potential to escalate in one of the world’s most important oil chokepoints.

@@mintcake2668 they need to diversify the ways they earn money, renewables are the way forward wether we like it or not. Relying on 1 resource to keep your economy running never works and it works even less if that resource is non renewable.

Bit of misinformation around here. The Iranian passenger plane had their Transponder in the auto position which transmitted in the alpha mode while on the ground. The US destroyer picked up that transmission while the plane was on the ground and locked on to that signal at the airport. At the same time there was an Iranian fighter on the ground with its transponder transmitting in the alpha mode as well. After the Iranian passenger plane took off its transponder switched to the Charlie mode which would have shown the destroyer crew that it is indeed a passenger plane, but the destroyer mistook the alpha mode transponder on the ground for the transponder on that Iranian passenger plane. Thinking it’s a fighter they tried to communicate and warn it on different frequencies but never received an answer (the passenger plane was on another frequency). The radar signal showed the plane heading in the direction of the destroyer and climbing but the US Navy crew mistakenly thought it’s descending towards them. After warning the plane further about their defensive measures the destroyer crew deployed a surface to air missile to defend themselves thinking they were under attack. Not a complete story but a rough overview how they mistook a passenger plane for a Iranian fighter. originally posted by a user of the name ''Dare Devil''

Coma Reborn Well that might be a semi-explanation but not an excuse. Since when can you shoot an unidentified target? But then again, since when does the US government care about human rights, international law, not commiting war crimes and common decency?
