🐍 The Indian rock python is one of the largest land predators in Sri Lanka. Its mottled brown body provides perfect camouflage on the jungle floor, making it an excellent ambush hunter.
🥚 But a newly hatched python, just 50cm long, can easily become prey instead of predator … Learn how a mother python protects her eggs, what purpose an “egg tooth” serves, and what risks a baby snake faces on its first day out of the shell.

Not all snakes protect their eggs or babies, some just leave. But it's interesting how some have some kind of mothering or protective instincts, ball python is one example of a snake who curls around and protects its eggs.

Random question, but I noticed birds have hard shell but reptile eggs appear to be…. Leathery. I’m from Malaysia and we actually eat turtle eggs here, and I notice their “shells” don’t seem shell like. I’ve even seen someone dig out gecko eggs and it did not look like bird eggs

What is the question? Birds have eggs with hard shells and most reptiles have eggs with leathery shells, though there are some exceptions. Crocodilians have hard shelled eggs.

Those turtle eggs better have not been fertilized, & not endangered. 😑
@lumiere2713
@lumiere2713 2 жыл бұрын
It's mainly due to how eggs are incubated, bird eggs are hard due to parents sit on them so they need to be strong, while most reptile eggs are leathery because it's incubation depends on the environment, and because they are cold blooded they don't need to sit on them instead they just buried it or put it in an ideal environment for incubation and they only guard their egg for protection. Atleast that's what I've recalled from my biology class.
@hemerocallis463

I'm from Malaysia too and I assume you're from the east coast, please don't eat turtle eggs, and please encourage others to not eat them too. We have regular eggs to eat, we don't need to harm the turtles for food. Also to answer your question, yes reptiles do have leathery eggs, that shell is actually permeable, so they should be kept in moisture places or they'll dry off. If they are dry, they'll shrink and if they regain moisture, they'll become round and full again.

@@potatoman2579 they both work. Crushing gives off a more destructive and harmful feeling, which works since they are killing their prey. Squeezing personally feels more neutral. Like, if I am squeezing someone's hand, I am just holding it tightly. But if I am crushing someone's hand then I am holding it so tight it is painful, or harmful.

Boas and pythons along with other fairly similar snake families are classified within the infraorder Henophidia, henophidians are the most basal infraorder of snakes, as these snakes are most closely related to each other and are not closely related to any other snake, this divides snakes into four infraorders, Henophidia, Scolecophidia, Mesophidia, and Toxicophidia, Mesophidia includes the colubrids and other fairly similar families of snakes, its sister group Toxicophidia includes the vipers, elapids, and other extremely venomous families of snakes, Scolecophidia happens to include the smallest and most harmless snakes, in fact, the infraorders Mesophidia and Toxicophidia are in the clade Caenophidia, which is grouped with the infraorder Scolecophidia in the larger clade Neophidia, while Henophidia is the most distantly related from all the other groups.

Nice video BUT - There are two errors in this: 1. They don't kill by "heart stopping from the pressure", but pressure on the lungs causing suffocation. 2. They won't "grow big enough to become predators someday". They already are predators before being hatched, and immediately feed on small baby snake sized prey..... a. They won't increase mass & grow bigger unless they eat, anyway. In life, In your life: you want to be an expert, .... ~ Become one.... (Or leave a disclaimer)
