Today I sit down with British journalist and author, Mary Harrington, to discuss her transition from leftist feminism to promoting an anti-progressive feminism. We discuss some of the history of feminism, how the cultural changes of Industrial Revolution became the catalyst for the first feminist movements, why a true feminist sees good marriages as part of the solution, how contraception is ultimately anti-feminist, and much more.

Hello Lila and Mary: Regarding what men talk about when we together, much of it is understated and ironic little jokes. To many women looking on, it would probably appear that nothing is happening. However, when you are part of it, a huge amount of warmth and affection is being expressed. I hope that helps.

The worst lie we tell girls is that they can do everything men can. But the competition is solely defined by terms of men's success. When they keep losing, then, they feel inferior, powerless, inadequate. All the while the society keeps hammering them with every successful woman who got a great job, founded a business or won a race. I saw what that thinking does to a woman and it was just miserable. I can barely distinguish basic colours, I could live in a cave and I wouldn't be bothered and first and for all, I'm horrible at having babies. Yet nobody aims to diminish my value because of that. Why do we do that only to women? ... Love Mary, love her book and how she giggles. Thanks for bringing her on.

Also not that the Industrial Revolution replaced all the important jobs that women found honor in with machine. Clothes being made at a factory instead of a wife sitting at a fabric loom for 100s of hours to clothe the family. Is a big change in what a women did. Men made machines to make there women’s lives easier but removed the tasks that gave them purpose besides just having children

Goes to show you that automation or industrialisation is only useful given the precondition that it improves quality of life. ... chances are that if events of the past 200 years would have taken place of the course of 2000 years it may well have been better for humanity because it would have given people more time to adapt their cultures more appropriately.

It has always been about advocacy for women. Can be interpreted as striving for equality where women are behind. But the disinterest in taking a step back when women are ahead shows the intention was always Forward fpr women, no matter the position of men. So it's a supremacy movement now women have caught up but are not slowing down.

I did a lot of head nodding during this interview. Mary speaks a lot of truth regarding the history of the nuclear family in an agrarian to industrial society. I would add that my childhood in the 70s and 80s included neighbors that were home in an overall Judeo Christian society. In several neighborhoods we've lived, neighbors aren't available, no one is home or want to visit like I grew up with. Not many women stay home these days. It's a totally different world!

Agreed. I wonder what her thoughts are on the development of the role of grandparents. Particularly because we have lost the cultural focus on stable families where there would have been an ideal 'vacancy' for grandparents to look after grandchildren while parents were working. It may well have been a perfect 'stabilizing influence' in households. But instead for some reason we've put grandparents in independant households where they can contribute much less.

What I miss in this interview is the importance of clothing and the rise of the mini skirt at the same time "the pil" came on the market. The pressure that was put on women to dress themselves in a sexy and provocative way. And that fashion and make up became very important. Women became pleasers who need to look young and willing. And so they became competitors for each other with revenge and jealousy in their hearts. And men laughed at it and made jokes about it.

I think you are correct. The pill enabled sex to be given and taken on demand "consequence free" (all though it can never really be consequence free the pill just makes it appear that way) and with that came a focus on sex purely for arousal and pleasure. And therefore there was a focus on women to start marketing themselves for free sex to men. Women in hollywood etc... fully leaned into that and it influenced younger generations

Knowing the roots of feminism (ie, 1st Wave Feminism) lie in neomarxism, occultism, free love and dislike for family values, I wonder: - WHY Harrington still considers herself a feminist - WHY Ms. Rose said that technology has had a much deeper impact on women (something Jordan Peterson erroneously considers), especially considering how almost 300 years ago the industrial revolution DID NOT have the impact current tech is having on relationships This is exactly why we must regard anyone who considers herself a feminist with a ton of caution.
@RainbowDevourer
@RainbowDevourer Ай бұрын
I agree that she only focuses on the materialist aspect of the feminist movement. I think she should read Occult Feminism, if she has not already. But why do you assert that it is an error to overestimate the impact technology had to the spread of feminism. As far as I can tell, feminism is only able to spread once a certain level of production is reached and tech makes work less dependent on physical strength. - From what I understand, the impulse behind feminism was always lurking in the background, but could only spread to the extent it has done today once a certain tech level was reached. If the tech disappears, the necessity of survival will abolish feminism quickly, or so I would think. But I would love to hear your argument on it.

@@RainbowDevourerAgreed. I could not have asked the same question in a better way. It seems that the developments of the past 200 years impacted the lives of women more deeply than men making it more difficult for women to redefine culture along with men.

Ezer = rescuers and strength is proper translation not helper used to cringe whenever I heard this Bible verse, I went straight into defensive mode. I don’t want to be a “helper” or “help meet”, that sounds so lame. Like I was made to be an assistent or servant to a man. This my dear sisters is a lie, you are made for so much more. In Hebrew the word used is Ezer Kenegdo and this is a difficult word to translate into English or any other language. The meaning of Ezer Kenegdo Ezer has originally two meanings in Hebrew, depending on the pronunciation: to rescue/to save and to be strong. In the Old Testament the word Ezer is used 21 times. We can roughly divide the different Scriptures in three ways the word “Ezer” is used: 1. Ezer used for the woman. Show list of Scriptures 2. Ezer used for nations to whom Israel appealed for military aid. Show list of Scriptures 3. Ezer used for God as Israel’s helper. Show list of Scriptures What these Bible verses have in common is that Ezer is used consistently in military context. The Ezer is a warrior. You are a warrior. The Hebrew word Kenegdo means opposite as to him or corresponding as to him. A woman is no better or less than the man. Man and woman are equally and uniquely created, a perfect fit.

No. Women didn't have personage, legal and financial independence in pre+industrial times. That's quite the rewriting of history. Women were treated as livestock until they had en early d from childbirth number 10/15. There is a lot to agree with in what Mary says, but without financial independence and the human right of bodily autonomy women are, and will remain, men's property.

Livestock? I currently have 150 dairy cows fenced in on my pasture. Back in the day those would have been women contained en masse? Or would a man traditionally have just one wife, unless a Mormon? Coverture certainly legally regarded a man's one wife as his property, but with that he subsumed all liabilities for her as his own liabilities. That was actually a benefit for her with that particular status in muchbm harder times when survival was more paramount than in the current post-modern western society.
