Great idea on the clone assassin identity. I think it pairs well because in Rebels, Rex has a line where he wakes up from being knocked out (in the episode where Rex, Ezra, and Kanan fight the droids) and yells "Cody!" as if he is terrified and shocked...

While I do think Cody is the best option, I saw a theory it could be Dogma and that would be devastating for the fans.

I like the theory that these clones have been sort of enhanced using crosshair’s dna because they have the same skills, same way of talking, same musical cues, and they all seem to see crosshair as their brother even though most regs wouldn’t.

I remembered posting something similar somewhere, but as of the time of this writing, this mysterious assassin could still be Tech and not Cody or a clone of Crosshair because of the following: 1. Golden rule is that if you don't see a body, chances are that character is highly likely alive and is probably somewhere captured by the enemy. Case in point, Echo and Clone Commando Gregor. We only see Tech fell from a height but he did not die on screen. 2. The last we heard of Cody was that he went AWOL, but nothing was said about him being imprisoned or killed by the Empire. 3. If the Empire belittle clones and wants to focus more on the Stormtroopers, why would they want to waste more resources to clone a clone? And out of all the clones, why would they want to clone a "defect" like Crosshair who ultimately turned against the Empire? Even if Crosshair's marksmanship is far superior from anyone else's, the Empire just want total obedient soldiers 1st, skills 2nd (based on what I've seen). That said, even the clone assassin's sniping skills still pale in comparison to Crosshair's when Crosshair was in his "prime" given that the clone assassin still misses a few shots in the episode. 4. For a reprogrammed/brainwashed clone assassin, he really seems very defiant against Wolfe's orders even when Wolfe was supposed to be in charge of the operation once he and his squad arrived. Seems like a very "Bad Batch" trait to not follow orders, don't you think? He even seems to have his own independent thinking and doesn't discuss it with the other clones as he goes about doing things his own way. If Cody was the clone assassin, I doubt he would have a very strong willpower to defy a superior's orders, let alone another clone's. There may even be a small part of him wanting to discuss working with Wolfe on how to go about capturing the clone rebels. 5. This clone assassin has quite a bit of screentime in episodes 6 and 7 and is even shown to have survived a fall from the waterfall. It seems to suggest he is someone we all known. But given with what I have explained in the above points, I still kind of insist Tech is the assassin and it might be a little time consuming to explain how the Empire captured a clone we knew of previously and brainwashed him. Of course I may be wrong since it is still too early into season 3 and there is a lot more one can speculate. If so, I really hope we get a proper explanation of who this mysterious clone assassin is. Hope to have some closure on this soon though and enjoy the rest of the season.

It makes sense that it would turn out to be Cody, since the reveal of it being Cody would shock both CF99 and Rex, whereas a Tech reveal would only shock CF99.

Every sign seem to indicate that it is indeed Cody. I find him very likely to be Cody. Cody was shown to be an expert with knifes and hand to hand combat as he beats Crosshair easily. Shadow also has the scouter like him and Cody also has the scar on his face which would make his face recognizable. Cody went awol, but we never saw him with Rex.

It's not Tech. I was at the pre release at Lucasfilm. Questions were asked of the EPs Brad Rau and Jennifer Corbett both refused to talk about Asajj but flat out said Tech was dead.

The reveal would require double episode to greatly flesh it out anyway. And Crosshair in this week double episode story even said "Their identifies are erased".

And Crosshair replies, "I made my decision. " Tech was standing behind Hunter during this exchange, and in some shots, he is the only other person we can see when Hunter is speaking. Staring right at Hunter, listening to his every word. I believe our Mister Mystery Guest is Tech and he is speaking to Crosshair as Tech rather than another experimental clone referring to the program Crosshair escaped from. And we know the Empire recovered Tech due to Hemlock having his goggles, we just don't know the condition Tech was in.

An idea that I have is that this shadow trooper specifically is meant to be a rival for Crosshair and a representation of what he was and could've been if he stayed with the empire. A part of him he needs to overcome and defeat or give in and join. Perhaps it could be used as a way to show that he's recovered from everything the empire has done to him.

I felt like episode seven built up tension really well with the assassin clone and all the troopers on their tail, I actually thought someone important was going to die. But then it just throws all of that built up tension out the window when Wolffe just lets them go because it tuns out he is a wimp.

I think that it’s cool that the clone assassins are basically storm commandos without the visor things on scout trooper helmets. In my head cannon, these are phase one storm commandos.

We always overthink these and say they're doing a double fakeout or something, but it always ends up being the obvious answer. It's tech. Tech is the only option that would carry enough mainstream emotional weight for these characters. Cody introduced them in the backdoor pilot and had one guest appearance with crosshair, but most of the characters wouldn't know him. Rex and Wolf would be impacted, but the show is not about them. I do think it's tech, but I think it will be a late reveal leading into the finale for more impact. He won't be turned back and rejoining the team. They'll basically learn he's as good as dead anyways and put him out of his misery (wouldn't be surprised if its a final act from crosshair killing tech to save omega or something)

personally I think the shadow clone could be a clone of crosshair. I don't know if you can clone clones, but he is rebellious in his own way and does a lot of sniping.

My personal theory is that while Crosshair was on Tantis, the empire probed his brain, finding out what his defect actually was. I think they cut it out and cloned it into these specialized clones which is why Crosshair can't shoot like he did.

Surprised no one has said Boil yet tbh. We know Waxer died on Umbara, but the last we saw of Boil was him, Anakin and Obi-Wan chasing Ventress and Vos on Christophsis.

I kept telling myself in the final moments of the episode either Crosshairs is gonna die or that Clone Shadow is Tech. It would make sense that it’s not Tech, but Henlock got those goggles fast. Though given the state of the story Disney would primed to do a show about the Clone revolt and stuff from Legends. Edit: my dumb ass thought there were only 8 episodes.

The best theory I heard is that the assassin program are clones of crosshair. That's why the assassin calls Crosshair brother, that's why Crosshair is shocked when he meets him. And I mean, the assassins all use sniper's, use a drop down head scope thing like Crosshair, and when we see Crosshair in a fight in the last two episodes its always in a sniper fight against an assassin. The assassins represent his dark side/past with the Empire, and when he finally defeats one himself it will represent the completion of his redemption arch.

About Techs glasses, they remind me of the scene in Jurassic Park 1 where the boy takes off his broken watch and the hunter guy concludes that he is still alive, because the plastic strap is still intact and it wouldn’t come ff this way. Same with Techs glasses on the rubberstrap, they were broken, so useless and impaired his vision, so he took them off. Logical. And it’s always good to have an deus ex machina in the backhand.

Jodo kast is the secret assassin. The twist is that it’s thrawn moonlighting for fun. Real answer is that it’s just a random clone.

They really just reintroduced Commander Gree and then immediately had him get stealth killed. XD

The other reason to keep that clone alive is to make him discredit Wolff. He has to change sides at some point and join Rex+Gregor, so what better way to make him do that, then blackmailing him as a traitor. If its Cody it would be even more impactfull, since he was a well known commander and Wolff would see, what will happen to himself in the future. For episode 12 we saw in the trailer that Hunter, Crosshair and Wrecker are still together. We also still have Cad Bane and Ventress joining.

Might be a common theory, but i think the clone assassin is in fact a clone of crosshair. They have similar fighting styles and equipment and crosshair even has the line where he says him being defective is why he could be brainwashed, similar to the assassin defying orders. This also connects to why the clone assassin they capture in episode 6 recognizes crosshair and even calls him brother. Just a thought.

the Bad Batch does not only mean clone force 99, its means all clones to the empire, they are all a BAD BATCH of soldiers of the empire.

I think the most interesting part of the episode, is that they all followed Wolf's orders, even the commando. I was expecting they'd all turn on him after.

Admiral Rampart said that Cody had defected, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to find out he was forced into the program. Especially since we probably would have seen him find his way to cross paths with Echo or Rex. But we haven’t seen or heard anything from Cody. When Scorch calls the assassin he said “why was I activated?” This is kind of a hint towards the amount of time he’s been in the program, Cody went AWOL in season 2 near the beginning. That is a lot of time he would have been in the program, plus someone as skilled as Cody would have been only used on the most critical and sensitive missions.

Considering the assassin outright called Crosshair, a brother, its probably another clone commando. If not Tech, then who else do we know?

He was given tremendous character growth in his episode last season, it makes no sense for him to finally turn his back on the empire just for him to somehow get captured and turned into an assassin. Filoni also said they want to continue to tell Cody’s story somehow, and that the original script for Kenobi had Cody meeting him on Tatooine and team up to protect Luke

Crazy Answer: Slick Realistic Answer: Clone of Crosshair. It's entirely possible that they might have special accelerated cloning systems on Tantiss since I seem to recall that existed in legends too.

Predictions for the Bad Batch: 1) The Shadow Operatives are proto-Dark Troopers (in Legends they were made from upcycled clones). 2) Vader will show up at some point, either to end the Bad Batch (possible) or to deal with Hemlock's failure (very likely).

I think Tech will be either this shadow trooper or a part of a super computer like Eco was.

I hope that Bad batch does not end with all of their deads, I hope it ends because the bad batch disolves into the clone revelion, and that will be the next series from Disney, in the stile of reach, we know they will lose but we follow their valiant fall and passing of the torch unto an organised revelion, like we saw in these episodes with the meeting of dissatisfied republic and separatist representatives being scolted by clones.

i think the clone assassin is a clone of crosshair. well a lesser clone anyway. his backpack is almost 1-1 with crosshairs sniper holding backpack, it would literally pit crosshair against his “past self” or “alternate future”, and it could explain how he was able to stand up single handedly to the batch longer than even a commando could.

I still snicker every time I hear Commander Cody since the name of that character came from the Commander Cody movie shorts that MST3K brought prominence to.

I think it's a double fake out, and it is in fact Tech. He doesn't obey orders, there was the whole "you made the wrong decision" monologue (that could have referred to Kamino). plus this is Star Wars The Bad Batch (and Tech is a member). It makes sense for that to happen, like with echo. It's like poetry. It rhymes.

The odd thing is from the trailer this clone assassin finds the bad batches new home on Pabu so I’m curious on how he finds it. That’s kind a reason why one of them might be tech as he was someone who knew of the location and Cody didn’t so if tech did survive and was made into something similar to echo but with blockers/empire loyalty programmed in then all the bad batches secrets including their home would be revealed thus the invasion

I hope they do a series about the Empire in which they continue using this animation style. Maybe about the Reconquest of the Rim. They did say, the Emperor fears worlds from the Senate and from the Outer Rim uniting against him.

I don‘t think that the shadow clone is cody, because he told crosshair that he chose the wrong side, so corsshair probably saw him during that programm. And crosshair would most likely remember cody being there.

I think it would be a bit of a long shot, but it would be really interesting to see the clone assassin end up being someone like Dogma. Already nearly fanatically loyal, all it would take is a bit of conditioning.
