How Rajya Sabha MP were Elected:

The election to the President is an indirect election process. Citizens do not cast vote for the President directly. He is elected by MPs & MLAs in turn elected by people. The election process is based on the concept of Single Transferable Vote (STV) and the value of vote of MPs & MLAs is different.
In India the President is not directly elected by the citizens of the country but he is elected directly by Members of Parliament -MPs & Members of Legislative Assemblies - MLAs. All the MPs & MLAs form the Electoral College.
Eligibility to be the President of India is as follows:
These are mandatory requirements for any Indian to contest the election for the President of India.
Must be a citizen of India
Must have completed 35 years of age
Must be eligible to be a member of the Lok Sabha.
Must not hold any office of profit under the Government of India or the Government of any State or under any local government (Exceptions are the offices of President and Vice-President, Governor of any State and Ministers of Union or State).

🔸Total number of eligible voters: 4809 🔸Total value of votes (MP+MLA): 10,86,431. 🔹MP's uses Green ballot paper. 🔹 MLA uses Pink ballot paper. 🔺Election is going to be held in 31 polling stations across the country. According to the 84th constitutional amendment act, the value of votes for the presidential election shall be based on 1971 census.

Maybe some percentage of voting rights for president should be given to students, doctors,policeman,military man...etc. They play vital role in India. Also it does not look good that first citizen of India solely elected by political parties.

Formula for Calculating VALUE of MLA is totally wrong ! Recheck brothers , its not the formula . Value of vote of MLA is ( population 1971 ÷no of MLA) ÷ 1000
