I recently adopted/rescue a 10 Yo mini Schnauzer, with a litany of issues according to the owners; barking, incontinence, nips, pulling on leash. He has some health issues, they probably didn't want to deal with, and was allowed to have his own way, so he required discipline and needed to learn to Trust. This dog just wants to please someone who offers stability. THIS IS A GREAT LITTLE DOG! I'm so glad I took a chance on him.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT I SWEAR. i have a 13 mo old Golden Retriever ( 90 lb super amazing dog ) that grew up around 3 Malinois. Of those 3 only 1 remains with its family. Now, i see all the bad things that breeds like BM go through. It reqlly aggravates me now seeing them suffer. Along with many other dog breeds.

I found my Mal at a rural Humane Society just outside Phoenix. He was just shy of four months old. I couldn't believe nobody had adopted him, but I'm grateful he didn't go to the wrong home. His mom was at the shelter when she was pregnant, so my guy had been there since birth. I have a senior Mal, so I'm familiar with the breed. My little guy has been with us for just over two months. He is the sweetest, smartest boy. Lots of energy, of course, but that's what I expected. You can find great dogs at shelters.

I love how Robert emphasizes and focuses on the "good" dogs in shelters, how he recommends finding the "good" ones, not trying to save the critically damaged ones. Based on Cesar Milan shows & social media, I thought ALL shelter dogs are a disaster, struggling with PTSD issues way above my skills & abilities to handle. But THERE ARE some great dogs there! I'm so glad to hear Rocky got adopted, I hope he's in a good home where he's fully appreciated now.

Just found this channel because we are fostering/adopting our 3rd Malinois or Malinois mix since we found our first one in the LA pound in 2002. He was found as a stray and listed as a shepherd mix. Back then few people knew what a Malinois was. He was really emaciated and we noticed he had a breeeder’s tattoo in his ear and pointed this out to the staff. They said that since he had an identifying mark they would have to hold him for two more weeks. Two more weeks later, he was ours and we have never looked back.

About 3 years ago, I met a marine right out of the service , he had a young Malinois about 1 year old. He was living in a little apartment . He was having a child so he couldn't keep the dog anymore. No room. He asked me if I would like to take him. Me and Sarge have been together ever since. I couldn't have asked for a better dog. He had a few problems at first because he was always in his crate. He hasn't seen a crate since then. He loves my family. Had to spend a lot of time with him. He turned out to be the best dog ever

I have a male Dutch Shepherd and a female GSD/Greyhound mix that are 4 months apart and let me tell you when the girl gets rough... I fear for the poor boy's life 😂Those mean little faces she makes! They play rough constantly and I never panic but sometimes other people will see this behavior and call it "aggressive" or they'll think the girl is trying to eat the poor boy when really she's just correcting him for chewing on her paws or ears or whatever obnoxious behavior he was guilty of at the time. I'm glad she took to him and helps me keep him in line!

Adopted our Mal from the local shelter. She was approx 1.5 years at the time. She’s the smartest dog we’ve ever had. She is good for me and I her. A wonderful hiking companion. Everyone loves her in the neighborhood and at the office. She pees and poops only on gravel instead of grass. That training happened in one week. Wonderful dogs, Only for people who make time for them. When you give them your time, they give you obedience, comfort, laughter and love.

I found my 1 year old Malinois at a shelter a few months ago when she was 8 months. I saw her and went the next day. I live in a small town and through word of mouth I found out her whole story and my family actually knows the previous owner. The owners were talked into giving her up because she was neurotic and they were having problems with the dog biting and scratching them. Around town within weeks of me having her I was told “this is a different dog”. “She is so calm and such a sweet girl. “. Like this video says in the right hands these dogs as amazing. In the wrongs hands you can actually cause behavioral issues which can harm you and the dog. I’m not going to lie it is a lot of work. Training, jogging, “fetch” , dog nap, dog park, river, swimming, tennis balls. Everyday, but I love it and I now have a great dog.

Same story for mine! How did my beautiful GSD/BM stay in a shelter for 6 months? She was a puppy in an apartment with a couple the rescuers thought might have been very harsh with her and her only exercise was in a dog park. She knew nothing at 18 months and the owners said she was “too energetic and became too rough with their small dog”. She knew nothing when I got her, not even housebroken and I had her fully trained in 4 months and right now she is the absolutely love of my life. They did not deserve her, she was meant to be mine and she lives in a pack with 5 other dogs in our home. She is the most fun dog I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing with. One day I will rescue another one when we have room.

I’m a few years late for this video. I got a male Malinois and I freaking love him. I couldn’t ever imagine taking him to a shelter. He’s easy to train and learns super fast. I read a handful of books about Malinois before I made the decision and don’t regret it one bit reading them books. We also have a toy Aussie, a mini Aussie, Golden Lab, and a Golden Retriever and they all get along great. Best dog I’ve ever owned is my Malinois Gunner.

I got adopted by a mix. I kept her because I could tell she was a hi energy dog, and I have had other high energy dogs. (Like you said she plays a little hard, or did, now she is a great dog that is ready to please. 24/7.) I knew if an average dog owner tried to take her on, she'd either be in the pound, or loose in the street... I've had her three years and spend at least two hours a day with her, not counting the time she and I enjoy living in and out of the house. She definitely gives back more than most dogs do, she is very smart... definitely a high energy prey driven dog, and extremely loyal. I've been rewarded for taking care of her.

I got a Malinois a couple months ago from a local person who was a breeder but had an unexpected litter that they weren't planning for. My wife and I had been talking about getting a dog. A Malinois wasn't even on our radar. We had no idea what they even were. I was at the vet with my cat when she was there with her puppies and I stated I was interested in adopting a dog. I knew nothing about how difficult a Malinois would be to raise and train but I spent a month researching it and found out. Still adopted her. Her name is Artemis and there isn't anything on this Earth that would make me give her up! I have been watching hundreds of videos from a plethora of KZfaqrs on how to train her. She is doing well and I take her weekly to a local place to play with a bunch of other puppies and people. There are times where I am frustrated and tired due to her sheer endless energy and there are times I worry but ultimately, I know it will be fine. I know where to go for the information and help I need and Artemis will never not be loved. Pisses me off to no end that someone would choose to keep their new Husky over another dog. Artemis is my family. I couldn't imagine life without her.

I think possibly the owners lied about Rocky attacking the Yorkiepoo because they maybe realised they’d taken on too much with the Husky puppy. I sure hope he gets the best home for him. I’m currently fostering a 8-10 year old Staffie from a rescue shelter who has cancer so he’s ours until he needs to be put to sleep. Really smart dog. Not in pain at present but not re-homable due to vet bills. Had him 12 weeks and am curing his severe fear reactivity with other dogs. He’s a sweet boy. Greetings from Bristol UK. You do a great job Robert.

Mals are amazing dogs. I had a husky for 15 years and now have a 6 month old Mal. They will challenge your resolve at times but you work through it because you have committed to a life. To many people pick a breed on look and ignore Genetics. You need to be able handle, assess and correct behaviours like that. If that Mal wanted to hurt that tiny dog it would have in split second.

He was a polish warm blood. Horse equivalent. Of Mali. Big pussycat. With a wicked play drive. Sadly badly damaged by every training camp under the sun. Worst began with p. Word. Say no more. Emporers new clothes. Good training is common sense really.

Having fostered Malinois for a rescue they are lovely dogs, the issue is they need to get a lot of attention. People need to be training minded when having one of these dogs, they are not dogs you bring home and leave to themselves. I deal with far too many owners who get dogs who do not understand the breed they are geting and hand them in, it is the dog that sufffers.

@@ianwhite5799 What bothers me is... Huskies (other "arctic breeds" are bred to run). Why try to raise them ... in an apartment, condo or 'modern' 3 - 4 bedroom house... which is built on 2500 or 3000 sq ft lot. (only 10, 15 feet between houses; then they wonder why the neighbors resent when the dogs, bark, howl or whine... No front yard and barely enough room for a BBQ and 2 or 3 lawn chairs! If you don't have time to walk your dog... then I doubt if you have the time, dedication or animal sense to teach them how to run alongside a Bike rider without an extreme danger of pulling you off the bike. Smart dogs/working dogs; quickly learn how to either climb over, under or destroy fences of less than 6 ft. (which is the std in most housing developments) ... they are escape "artists" ... running, for them is not just a desire... its a necessity. Most working dog, will 'push' the limits - to find where they stand in the pack. If you can't set the limits ... then don't expect them to stop pushing. Personally... I hate. Designer / hybrid dogs...! You can't just mix dog breeds, like pain swatches - looking for that "perfect" formula; which matches your 'Lifestyle'. Far as I am concerned, if you aren't ready to invest "half a life time" into creating a dog breed, then don't even bother! ... What happens to all the throw-away (failures?). When you look at some breeds (like the GSD, Dobermann Pinscher ... they have 'only been recognized breeds, since the last 100 years or so) finally, becoming 'more or less stable. and NOW, you find folks who want to mix them with everything from Pit, rottweilers, "Dogos", Great Danes ... as if they are mixing varietal wines - to get the "perfect flavor"!

The moment you said "yorkiepoo" I thought "OH NO!" So few people get the right dogs for them and their household. Not to mention when they do get a dog, they enforce zero boundaries from the get-go and wonder why things go wrong. I really wish more people made informed decisions when it comes to dog purchase or adoption. They'd be much more prepared for the possible "problem scenarios," if they were honest with their time, capabilities and got the dog who is right for them instead of the dog they think is the cutest or the toughest. I fear for the number of dogs who will wind up in shelters post-pandemic when people go back to work and realize they "don't have time for their dog anymore." Sad. Thank you for everything you do and for helping people to be more educated about their dog decisions.

I just shake my head with some of the dogs that end up in shelters. I adopted a high drive herding breed 2 years ago, I didn't want to know WHY he was surrendered, I'm just glad I found him. Trendy breeds suffer in the hands of people who have no idea about the breed, the traits, and character. Hopefully Rocky will find a good Mali aware owner

6- 12 months down the line the husky will be looking for a new home. People are stupid getting dogs for vanity reasons. You have a dog to fit your lifestyle and capabilities. And to give the dog what it needs. They are living feeling beings. Not for posing around with. Until you get fed up with them. Be sensible people, don't be one those stupid shallow people, stop dumping animals they are living beings. I managed to say this with swearing. Phew.

Having had Siberians almost all my life, and having had a Malinois for the last 6 years, if they can't handle the Malinois, they can't handle a Siberian. I question what breeder they got the Malinois from and why there wasn't a contract stating if they couldn't keep the dog, the dog had to be returned to the breeder? Or perhaps the breeder was never even contacted. I know where that's happened before, so it wouldn't surprise me.

@@llallo97 Could have been. There is a kennel in one of the former Soviet block countries that's been sending dogs over to North America and now the Amish are breeding them. Pisses me off too. They shouldn’t be able to have any dogs. My 10 year old granddaughter said to me while watching this video that getting a dog is at least a 10 year commitment. Like I said that is from a 10 year old that obviously has more brains than the previous owners of poor Rocky. She also does amazing with my 2 malinois.

As an owner of two Malinois. It sickens me when people get the wrong dog and it winds up getting re-homed in some way. Or worse, put to sleep. If I didn't already have two, I'd have adopted him. My 19 month male has a bad case of separation anxiety, because of being re-homed 3 times within his first 11 months of life. Thankfully it's getting better.

You are 100% correct that folks should learn a LOT about their breed of choice *before* purchasing a "cool" dog, but please don't shame people by calling owner release "dumping"! This is what shelters DO: prevent actual dumping. (Real dumping is when they get dropped off in the woods or on a riverbank.) These owners did the responsible thing when they realized they could not provide the right environment. Could they have returned him to the breeder? We don't know. But it sounds like Rocky deserved a better placement, and he got it.
@RobertCabralDogs
@RobertCabralDogs 2 жыл бұрын
Shelters should be used to shelter dogs that were dumped. People dropping dogs at shelters and walking away guilt free is wrong. Many then go and get another dog, sometimes younger, cuter, etc. tens of thousands are dumped by owners every year. A pathetic abs callous act.
@socialdogcoach
@socialdogcoach 2 жыл бұрын
@@RobertCabralDogsYou know what's callous? Dropping off a litter of sick puppies in the jungle, which is what we are dealing with every day. At least Rocky's owners made sure he'd have a chance. Bottom line though, we agree on this: don't get a Mal (or any other breed) just because they're cool! 🤦‍♀️

Hi Robert, given the interest this live video has generated in Rocky and how quickly he was adopted would you consider doing more vids like this one in which you feature one (or more) Mal even in shelters throughout the Country to give your viewers a chance to give a dog a forever home? "Shelter Mal(s) of the month (or week) would be a great resource and some of us would be able to provide you with animals' info. Just a thought D
