"When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved." This one struck a major chord. Loved the tie-in with other stories of people trying to sail home. After being away from God for so long, my journey home has not been smooth sailing, and my character has also been revealed (the good and the bad) through those storms. Thank you for the sermon Paul. This provided some much needed perspective, encouragement, and gratitude today.

The Catacombs of San Sebastiano in Rome are worth a visit. There’s graffiti with invocations to Peter and Paul in one of the chambers. My wife and I were 50 this year so we treated ourselves with a trip to Rome, it’s a very cool place 😎.

Paul' sermons remind me of a quotation from Reinold Niebuhr, professor of Christian Ethics "As a teacher your only interest is to discover the truth. As a preacher you must conserve other interests besides the truth. It is your business to deal circumspectly with the whole religious- inheritance lest the virtues which are involved in the older traditions perish through your iconoclasm. That is a formidable task and a harassing one; for one can never be quite sure where pedagogical caution ends AND DISHONESTY BEGINS"! from "Leaves-from the Notebook of a Tamed Cynic"

I have yet to meet someone who could be so devoid of agenda as to never communicate anything but unbiased truth. Even a person who tells me that the sky is blue may be implicitly telling me to pay attention to heaven.

@@tgrogan6049 I'm saying, dumb or not, it's impossible to avoid inserting your perspective in any communication. You do the very same thing you condemn, unless you would like to claim the title of Harbinger and Guardian of The Pure Truth, your majesty.

@@tgrogan6049 Yes, but why did you choose those facts? The fact that you choose those facts shows you have the persepective of a terrestrial being (that experiences gravity) with a circulatory system. It reveals your intent trying to appeal to another such being. An intelligent insect would probably not have used those examples, even if it would be just as true in its mouth. It also indicates your belief that these sorts of facts are the most fundamental and certain facts. It implies that you believe that, inusing them as examples, another reasonable mind would agree, giving a hint as to what you think a reasonable person does, or even ought to, think or believe. True, in isolation, there is nothing behind "the heart pumps blood", but unless you say it with no context to no end, then it is also a tool that communicates many other ideas. This is part of what people mean when they say statistics lie. I'm afraid you are a subject, after all. The very objects you use prove that.

Your connection of Jesus in the boat in relation to the storm on Galilee, to Paul on the Mediterranean going to Rome, and both to Jonah, is an example of Jesus’ remark that his disciples would do greater works than he, because the word of God was ascending through differing geopolitical levels in judgment. I see Acts as a primarily archetypal or dialectical connection figuratively of Peter and Paul, as Peter represents the millenarian rise of the church in truth originally; and yet, as it becomes turned in an historic fall like the Original Sin of the Cluny reforms, to Gentile kings in then New World and newly Universal advances of the marketplace. Paul is on the river of life going out of the garden of Eden, and parting into four heads, in the four differing national regions to a particular new Nation like our own in concerns of the Gospels.

you mentioned credibility that Paul accrues. I think I might suggest you put the word prophetic in there: prophetic credibility. He is after all on his way to preach to the pagans in Rome, as God has commanded...

Luke is showing us that Paul, a follower of Christ, is transformed into a kind of “little Christ” Paul is bitten by a snake after this isn’t he?

I wonder the spiritual insight gained by remembering wind/spirit/breath are one word. What does the storm winds do to one’s understanding of Gods power and ability to direct

So because of Paul's intercession the others were saved. Can we say that if let's say Paul is still alive beside God right now we can still ask him for intercession? I forsee that this will not become a contentious topic at all.😉
