Absolutely. But I have a very complicated relationship with caffeine, sometimes it gives me energy and sometimes it saps it, lol.
@ietsjeanders6122
@ietsjeanders6122 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely it does. I wrote a research paper about that in college. Caffeine revs and depletes your adrenaline, among other side effects, and essentially makes it less functional when you really need it and causing you to feel stress symptoms, like you're in fight or flight mode, which is exhausting because it's meant to be a temporary, rare state. It also can negatively impact your sleep of course, cause of rollercoaster high/come down feeling, and make you more prone to 'get it done or get irritated about it' mode which is also emotionally, and therefore physically, taxing. If you feel like caffeine may be causing you tiredness, I highly recommend taking a weekend or whatever kind of break you have to really try to FEEL your body's signals and figure out what you're truly wanting or needing when you start to reach for more caffeine. If you come to the conclusion you're just tired and want a boost, it's extremely liberating and eye-opening to just take a quick nap instead! In my experience you'll be able to figure out what your body is really wanting more in the future.

It's weird how everyone's body works so differently. I avoided caffeine most of my life because I never wanted to be dependant on it and I always had such high levels of energy throughout the day. But turns out, even when I drink coffee or an energy drink I rarely ever feel more alert. Like I'm caffeine resistant or maybe just have a higher tolerance.

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is a slogan, but it doesn't say when it should occur or what it should consist of! I have been skipping "breakfast" regularly since I was allowed to do so. Eating early in the day usually made me feel sluggish, even nauseated. Since I have pretty much quit this habit, I have never regretted it, but still enjoy my "breakfast" nights, where I eat traditional breakfast foods after work. I usually don't get hungry until about 11 a.m. and sometimes feel tired after lunch. I will see what lowering my carb intake can do to offset this.

My pattern when I hold myself to it is 1. Wake up around equatorial sunrise of my longitude (I live at 45 N so this means well before the sun is up in December and long after it's up in June). I have a sun lamp set on a timer to help with this that lights up my room as if I had an east facing large window. 2. Go for a morning run. The colder it is the faster I have to run to stay warm. 3. Quick calisthenics and meditation 4. Shower, starting warm and progressively getting colder until it's so cold I'm focusing on embracing the cold instead of reaching for the valve. 5. Protein and fat based light breakfast, typically eggs. (sometimes caffeine, no more than three days a week) 6. Go about my daily activities outside or near a sunlit window as much as possible. 7. 20 minute nap in the early afternoon, on my lunch break if I'm working a 9-5. 8. More time in or near the sun if possible. I put my desk near a large south facing window for example. 9. Carb heavy dinner, my main meal, around equatorial sunset. 10. Sleepytime tea a little before bed as well as no blue light and minimal room lighting after dinner. 11. Another round of meditation. 12. At around 9:30 solar time (time zones can be weird, man) sleep in a cool room, I'll crack the window in cold months or just set my AC as low as economically possible in warm months.

i've had a similar experience: - on a high fat or high carb diet i was constantly tired and unable to focus - When doing intermitted fasting skipping dinner caused me to be unable to sleep, i now skip breakfast and lunch to be more focused during the day and then eat later - when i get over a certain body weight i get visibly more tired other things i noticed were: - lots of salad and vegetables, especially raw ones, give more energy - When feeling sluggish a 1-minute-long cold shower helps - a fixed time to wake up helps with consistency in energy - for some reason energy drinks make me more awake than coffee, even if it's the same amount of caffeine (but then make me more tired after the crash) - i probably have celiac because gluten, even if it's low amounts like in soy sauce, make me so tired that i almost pass out - proteins that are difficult to digest lower my energy a bit too - caffeine improves my cognitive abilities and focus, but sometimes leads to unorganized or undirected action)

Another part of why you're sleepy after a meal is that eating triggers an anabolic state (repair, rest and digest) in your metabolism while being alert and energetic requires you to be in the catabolic state. This is shown in activation of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, in insulin and glucagon levels and in bloodflow to brain and digestive tract.

TIPS DOWN HERE: Through my years of finding the ultimate natural productive state. I did find that fasting gets me so much work done. Im a very lean person and discipline feels easy to me. Been doing this for years. TRY THIS: 1. Dont eat breakfast till you’ve completed your morning chores and yet maybe morning work. Effect: it trains your mind to do these things in repitition thru the action-reward system in your brain like how you train a dog to do tricks before he gets his treat. The more you do this, the easier it gets. 2. EAT HEAVY DINNER because this is your reward for everything you’ve done for the day, and will make you more productive tomorrow and have energy for tomorrow’s morning fast. Also, food coma is a great way to get to sleep and avoid those sleepless nights. 3. We all need coffee to help us sometimes. HAVE YOUR COFFEE BLACK without sugar. It hits different.

I had chronic fatigue for 12 years from age 13 to 25. It's NOT tiredness, the feeling is a lot more physical and deep in the body rather than the head. And indeed, I could fall asleep instantly. Rarely, even standing up. Somatic Experiencing, a physical therapy for PTSD, is what finally resolved my chronic fatigue, that was caused by trapped energy in the nervous system. Definitely a completely different situation than the info in this video, which is also very useful. I don't usually experience tiredness unless I stay up all night, tho I'm also used to the extreme fatigue I had for years.

As a person with low blood pressure, this is why we're recommended a low carb diet, as we already tend to suffer from low energy/feeling sluggish. Also, our blood pressure getting low enough will literally cause some of us (me) to crash (faint aka syncope.) Edit to add that we're also encouraged to get plenty of water and to add salt and caffeine to our diet. So now I'm wondering if there's a connection to orexin and low blood pressure. As a bonus, we're also recommended to get plenty of b12 and b9 (folate,) so maybe check to see if there's any studies that show whether those two help boost orexin? Lastly, we're told to limit our alcohol as it can be dehydrating.

I have been eating one meal a day, 2 or 3 days a week for years now, so I think that helps too, and I don't eat high carb food everyday. Since giving up the vegetable oil, I don't need to have as much caffeine to function, I still have a morning coffee, because I like the taste, but then just have water after that, and energy levels seem far more stable now.

I just thought I'd share my own experience after having tried fasting for the last 2+ weeks because of this video. I started fasting two weeks after I saw this video on the day it was released. I restricted my eating hours to 8 hours before sleep (didn't eat any solid food in between but would always have coffee with butter when I'm hungry, and if available, some broth) because I noticed I was getting extremely tired after every meal, and because of that I couldn't get anything done. Two weeks after watching this video, I restricted my eating window the next day without much preparation or practice in advance (not recommending this!) except making sure I drink more water, take more salt, take supplements, and have better meals when I'm eating. In my experience, staying hungry wasn't as challenging as I thought it'd be, especially because of butter coffee (which I have 1-2 times in the span of the 8-10 hour fast). The sensation of hunger usually comes at the time of day you'd usually be eating and subsides after a short while. What really surprised me was how fast it worked and how it's still been working ever since. The effects were present on the very first day, and I had a lot more energy than I normally would throughout the day until I have a meal again and I'd get drowsy for a while, but nothing like what it used to be. The first night I couldn't sleep, not because I was hungry, but because I just had way too much energy. After a while, I noticed that I could get around with a bit less sleep than I'd usually have and I could sleep a lot better. So the effects have been very very positive for me.

You are potassium deficient...hence that effect. We are suppose to get 4700 mg daily (thats approx. 7 cups of fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and fresh leafy greens daily) from the foods we eat. Carbs have little to none and also inhibit the minerals derived from leafy greens, fruits and vegetables (fun fact). Eating carbs or worse refined carbs ( eg. manufactured salad dressing, pasta,s white and wheat flour based products etc. etc.) are essentially inhibiting mineral absorption. Hence why leafy greens, vegetables and fruits are so important, they have the potassium and the other minerals needed to maintain balance in the body. At least 7 out of 10 people have this issue, some more severe than others. Constant high or elevated blood pressure is also another symptom of this.

I abuse caffeine and intermittent fasting intentionally in order to crash before midnight. I've grown up with industrial white lighting at home as a kid, so by 25 I was sleeping at 10am and waking up at 4pm just in time for grad school. Afterward, a tutoring gig had a great coffee machine in the office, and I discovered the powerful, clarifying effects of drinking sufficient coffee, over 2-3 cups of strong coffee. Before I had drank a single cup hoping for effect. After being attachéd to the army, now I wake up around 05:55 every morning, even weekends, and force blue light and caffeine on my person right away. I take breaks from coffee at least once a week. My regular coffee intake is a bit odd, about 68 ounces of water to dilute coffee, about 45 cc. This makes me fully alert and can get my thoughts to action immediately, whereas when I'm sober I procrastinate and daydream. By 20:00, I'm usually showering (whether I've played jujitsu or not) and eating dinner, mostly keto of course. Soon after, I should be falling asleep, unfortunately lately I've been doing so to yt videos. My go-to, however, is reading fanfiction. Saving the World the Right Way by paxbanana is a certified hood classic. Eating high protein & fat food OMAD at dinner, having coffee fasted all day, and having been fully awake since 6 all contribute to me crashing by a suitable, socially-appropriate bedtime. Until coffee, I had tried my best to keep to a 24-hour schedule, with inconsistent results. It's easy to blame screens, but regardless of hypotheticals, LED screens are a facet of life if you're reading this right now. Maybe one day I'll live in a homestead with a woman and a gun, but until I'm at full financial independence and retirement, computers and coffee will shape my life.

As a type one diabetic, this video has explained so much to me, the literal thing that is keeping me alive is also the thing that’s making me tired all the time, so I need to find ways to reduce the amount of insulin I’m taking. Thanks so much for this man you may have just saved my life

Learn from me. I sought methods of boosting my orexin. The downsides were brutal. I lost an hour or more each day dealing with my "solution" to raising my orexin levels. My muscles burned and ached, and I found myself sweating visibly. I had to drink a lot more liquids to keep myself from getting dehydrated, and wear special clothing just to air myself out. I lost a lot of weight during this time. My joints were often sore, and I had to wear special shoes just to prevent injuries I was more prone to in my feet and legs. I occasionally developed painful pus and blood blisters on my feet as well. My doctor said my resting heart rate had become "shockingly low" at 40bpm. As you may have guessed, my solution was running. It was and still is awesome. It just makes the rest of the day better. The soreness and pain gets better if you just stick to it. So yeah. Learn from me.

One thing I'll mention on the subject of sleep I used to be an insomniac until I started working night shift. I honestly think some people are hard wired to have better sleep at different times... I consistently sleep 8 hours a night now, compared to the 3 or 4 I would get when I had to wake up at 7am, despite going to bed at 9pm.

In support of this, my anecdotal experience is that fasting has always boosted my energy and lowered the amount of sleep I needed to feel rested. Only exception was a failed attempt at a 7 day fast that ended with me eating an entire pack of pepperoni (the saltiest thing in the house). A previous 7 day fast had gone off without a hitch and I felt fantastic at the end of it. No hunger whatsoever.

I am an "owl". Now that I am retired I can manage tiredness by choosing when to work, eat and sleep. That means tasks are done in the morning, one balanced meal a day, at lunchtime, followed by about 4 hours sleep. The next 12 hours is reading, writing, internet, games, etc, followed by another 4 hours sleep. Two weak, black, unsweetened coffee in the morning, one or two after the post prandial nap. This suits me well and I seldom feel tired during my waking hours, which is a huge contrast to my prior working life, when I was forced to conform to the eating and sleep pattern of the "larks" and suffered, if not from full narcolepsy, periodic overwhelming bouts of fatigue.

I too am retired, and an owl. I'd love to follow this pattern of living which is already pretty close to mine. . . It irritates me that the rest of the world expects me to follow THEIR schedule.

I've definitely had days in college where I would have 2 or 1 meals in given day. Juggling between school and work, I just didn't have the time to sit down and spend 30 minutes eating. I'm very competitive with my grades too. I always wanted to get the highest grades that I could achieve. It was a lot of hard work, not gonna lie. But I have no regrets.

I fast every day of the week and chillax on the weekends, my fasting started out as a spiritual thing and I discovered how amazing it is for the body. My typical fasting liquids are Gatorade, water and pineapple juice. And most of the time when I eat my big meal in the evening it’s like I took a handful of sleeping pills. The thing I realized about fasting is our bodies were created to go long amounts of time without food but due to food becoming easier to get we lost that awareness. I’m confident in biblical times it was normal for some folks to go days without a significant meal. Great informative video

Whenever I'm tired, I actually find physical exercise helps me more than resting and sleeping. That just makes me more tired. Exercise, even if it's moderate, just wakes me up. (And makes me tired when I need to be)

I used to have modafinil like once a week to be alert during my college days, I thought by mind power will improve somehow and I'll be active for at least 12 hours since the exams were nearer. But all it did was make me miserable because while your brain can become active, your body becomes tired and I definitely do not recommend it to substitute for sleep, you'll feel like a waking dead body. I only recommend modafinil if you're working on a project that is time sensitive and requires you to be active for 16 hours or driving somewhere (but it'd be better to not take up any such project that requires such deadline, and if it's not an emergency, get a motel and take adequate rest). Better not take any modafinil at all. You'll not become any smarter than you currently are.

Do not forget about psychological factors. My constant anxiety and over-analysis of things is what makes me tired. I've modified my diet, improved my sleep, and exercised. These helped maybe 10%. But really, looking at my psychological state is what worked for me. So, don't discard it.

When it's time to work, it's time to work. Conversely, when it's time to rest, you do that and that alone. Blurring the line between the two produces subpar results at best. Of course, there are leisure activities and non-work responsibilities, but when it's really time to slow down and take care of the body, that gets your full attention.

I've experienced the exact opposite. Eating a lot of protein at one time makes it near impossible to stay awake. But, regardless of the amount of carbs I eat, I'm just fine. In fact, around 3 years ago I noticed that if I don't have carbs I struggle to stay awake throughout the day. Carbs are essential for me to keep alert.

I suspect some of the population does well on carbs the other on fat. I assume this is evolutionary because sometimes the tribe would have more fat and sometimes more carbs. So having that as a difference in the community wouldve helped ancient communities always have someone who was eating what they did best on.

one of the most important things when consuming food is chewing it properly. trust me, i learned that the hard way. badly chewed food not only wreaks havoc on your energy levels but also on your health (i would even go as far as to say that most diseases are caused by food)

>scream at yourself >tell yourself you are at full power You usually think you are something, and then become that. You don't notice things, you make them happen. If you feel tired, it is not you being tired and noticing it. You are deciding to now become tired. Same with unhappy, lonely, depressed, hungry. You are actively choosing and engaging with one mindset and owning it.
