I think there needs to be a major adjustment in the placement Etsy gives to the description

I think the most bothersome ones are low stars with no feedback given. A lot can be learned from a low star review by way of constructive feedback if they actually tell you why they did it.

About customers who want things color matched. This happens to me all the time because a large portion of people are coming to me after a renovation. So they're trying to get artwork that precisely matches a throw pillow or their wall paint. (That's an awful idea btw). They want to send me fabric swatches and tell me the Sherwin Williams color they used. Tell me I need to drive to the paint store and get color chips and tell them if my print matches. I think they're still in "design mode" after ordering around all the people working on their project and they view me as just another employee on their renovation.

I have had 2 customers in the last year get angry with me because Etsy is continually asking them to leave a review. You know how after you purchase something and then receive it Etsy is always showing a review is needed for that item. I told the customers Etsy sellers have absolutely no control over this whatsoever. One of those customers left me a very poor review based on this. Oh well. Really irritated me but I have been in this business for 7 ish years and I realize that her bad review will disappear as more reviews come in. But, those review pushes from Etsy can be too much for some customers.

Thank you for the reminder. I have gotten some 4 star reviews where the person said they loved the jewelry. I just thank them and move on. I also have gotten 3 star reviews - I thank them and say I understand that it is hard to buy items from just pictures and a video. If they leave constructive feedback, I respond with how I might address the issue. I have sent products made from materials that I am running low on (the last stones or pearls of a batch) so I might take new pictures to show them what they will actually get. And sometimes when I don't, I get a comment on how beautiful the item was, even when I was worried that the stones or pearls were slightly irregular.

Actually, I am AMAZED that my clients bother to leave any review at all! They are BUSY professionals. I don't expect anything. The ones that ask innumerable questions, often for weeks, and hem & haw and ask for discounts, THOSE are the ones I dread getting reviews and so far, none of them have said they even received their items, much less somebody liked or hated it.

True btu the people who read it need the information in it. They're the ones who are ready to buy if the descriptions line up with what they're expecting. People who are window shopping don't read because they're just window shopping.

@@KaraBuntin I find a lot who buy or intend to buy, as in they message with the right buying signals, typically asked questions clearly mentioned, usually in bold in the description. On another platform, I get a lot of retunr requests for incorrect sizes, even though the sizes are standard fitting and highlighted on the listings. (I must point on few actually do return them).

Expectations. What people are imagining is 90% of their satisfaction or lack thereof, in my experience. You can do everything in your power to manage those expectations but they’re not going to coincide 100% of the time. The funniest / weirdest misconception that happened to me was someone angry about getting a ring instead of the bracelet they thought the item was. Never mind the title, description and photos showed a RING, including photos of the ring being worn on a FINGER. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just goes to show there’s only so much you can to to communicate in a way others will understand.

I have wished that I could get Etsy to remove a good review a couple of times. I didn't feel that what I made was as good as that customer thought. I wasn't pleased with my work, or the pattern or it was delayed during shipping (I know, not my fault, but I'm shipping Priority, so I expect more out of the tracking & handling from the PO).

Oh my gosh Kara, I got this customer who bought 4 different sticker packs from me. She gave 2 five stars and 2 one stars claiming that the colors weren't as bright as the screen. In every listing, I state that due to monitor and phone settings, actual colors may be affected, but she probably didn't read. So she placed another order 2 days later for 6 packs of different stickers. I was hesitant to process but it was a very slow week and I needed the money. I went ahead and processed. I wrote her a note thanking her and appreciated her support...blah..blah...but wrote to please contact me first before doing a review and I will be happy to do an exchange or refund. So a week later, no reviews but she ordered $200 worth of products! So I'm glad I didn't let her bad reviews prevent me from refunding her 2nd order in fear of more bad reviews. I just hope she gives good reviews on the big order or no reviews at all. Then 3 days ago, a customer loved her stickers but she gave me a one star. I reached out to her and she replied the next day that it was a mistake. I kindly asked if she wouldn't mind changing the stars. Two days later, nothing. So, if she doesn't change it, it's ok. I've been a star seller since the beginning and never lost it. Yes, I care about it and I know I shouldn't, but I'm freaking perfectionist since I was a child...you know straight A's, perfect attendance, etc. I'm still learning as an adult to let things go. So sorry for the novel. The lesson is...do not let negative reviews affect you. It's a part of business. Just reply to the reviews in professional manner. I think when people give mixed reviews like this, the buyer has binary thinking with no gray areas. When they review each item it either passes or fails. Nothing in-between. Very analytical and not considering how a 1-star might make someone feel or if there might be different levels of "not what I imagined it would be". Personally I would always reserve a 1-star reviews for the worst possible service or if it was obviously faked pictures. Or if the item arrived dirty or smelling like cigarettes or something.

@@jennyjumpjump Yes, they don't consider the whole transaction such as speed of delivery, nice packagings, freebies...which I provide. She could at least given me a 3. Oh well. I've received a 1 star before with no statement. I reached out but never got a reply. Then another one where she loved it but gave a 1 star. She said it was a boo boo but never fixed it. I have more great reviews for future customers to see I have great service and quality items so gotta let those bad ones go. I wish Etsy would just get rid of the star seller program.
