What do you guys think of the Ace AF1’s?
@ac60844 ай бұрын
AF1's have one of the shortest axle to axle wheelbase of any truck out there. This shorter axle WB is what gives it a "lighter" feeling due to the increased leverage at the tail/nose.

Best truck in my personal opinion! Turn on a dime an there the only trucks that are loose straight out the box! For my type of skating they work simply because there so responsive an quick! Street skaters usually don’t like these trucks because they make it a bit harder to do tricks but I don’t skate street so I don’t have that problem
@LeonPaxton4 ай бұрын
That's true! They have been great but are also quite loose. I'm going to get the hard bushings for these and see how they help 🙏🏼 @@SlashDiaries

I am a big, tall dude. The bushing weren't for me. Instant wheel bite. I changed them out. Now they are great trucks. I love the simple clean look. Air Force 1 (AF1's) are an improvement over the originals. The originals are still solid. I believe they are still made in the USA. Whereas Independent are now made in China. I am Canadian, but I trust the "Made in America" truck over the former No.1.

I got worse pop than on indys11 and not a tighter turn, its just deeper due to the longer kingpin and higher bushings as for my experience. I am not very good, mainly skating miniramp or small Bowls and bend the classics 55, 66 and af1 60 with just 75kg. That just made me super sad, although i like the deepnes of the turn.

I set up a new pair of Indys 159''s standard Hollows a size of Indys I don't ride as much for this 8.9 Creature Egg W short wheelbase and short length. because it tapers in over the trucks. I modified the bushings tho, I left the bottom one standard the orange bushings, and changed the top bushing to a hard black Indy bushing. Board rides amazing. The Change to the bushings helped my pop because Im riding some 58mm Spitifire Conical Fulls that are 80dur soft but with hardcore inside, makes it so you can pop easier with soft wheels in a crusty area. I only skate crusty spots. I dont like smooth surfaces lol.

Damn that's a good idea! These trucks are still feeling pretty loose so i might look at getting some harder bushings in them 🤔

I’ve been on Thunder hollow lights for a while and don’t think I can go back to anything else. Even the 151’s are so light they made riding a 9” egg feel like an 8” I tried to go back to Ace but the geometry on thunders seem to work much better for me.
@LeonPaxton4 ай бұрын
Thunder hollow lights used to be my jam until I got used to the wide turn of Indy, Slappy & Ace trucks lol My back tails have been working a lot better too since the axles of these trucks sit further to the centre of the baseplate so theres more wheel clearance when sliding but I wouldn't mind trying some Thunder's again soon 🤔
@dadboard4 ай бұрын
@@LeonPaxton yeah I was a big Thunder fan when I was younger and that was pretty much all I rode but right after I started skating again the AF1 was coming out and I hopped on the hype train right away. Still love the way they turn and everything but I notice my flip tricks take a hit because of how surfy they are. Thunders gave me that stability back and I like that they’re lower and lighter, definitely helps skate longer when your board isn’t a tank. Keep ripping, dude! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the 93’s too 👊
@LeonPaxton4 ай бұрын

My highest ollies were on my lightest setup: Element Featherlight deck, Spitfire Firelighters wheels… After that, I preferred a more robust setup: Independent Standard trucks, 7-ply or even 8 plies maple decks. Another great video! That park looks so fun. I've ridden the classics, af1, and af1 hollows. I really love the af1 hollows. I've got the 77s on my 10in pop. It's a blast. I'm really curious about the slappy lites (forged hollows) that are coming out later this season. Supposedly even lighter than their regular hollows. It'd be sweet if you included those in the comparison video. I'm pretty interested in Slappy for the reduced wheelbite and I could always use a weight reduction on my setup.

I love Hollow Trucks. when I skate for tricks, or any bigger setup of mine has hollows. Ill only ride "standards" that are 8.5 and up if they are "Ventures", I ride Only "Hollow Independent" trucks tho. idk why. I cant skate a pair of standard Indys, the weight is to much, for me. I have a pair of ACE AF1s but they are 33's for a 8.0 inch set up. when I ride a 8.0 my trucks are always Solid axel Solid Kingpin. only way I feel Stable. I like the turn on the AF1 standard, but its Pop feel isn't for me. Because of the weight. Even tho I skate Ventures 5.2 that are pretty similar weight as the ACE af1 33. How do you like the weight of those ACE AF1s HOLLOWS VS. INDY 169'' Hollows and VS. Slappy Hollows 9.0 out of the three which do you prefer? seems like you skated those Slappy trucks and liked them.

It's hard to compare these to the Indy Forged Hollows because it's been a while since I've ridden them but I'm looking at trying the Slappy Hollows next so I can do a direct comparison from the AF1 Hollows to the Slappy Hollows for sure 👌🏼 Yeah I don't want to give too much away before i do my comparison video but those Slappy trucks really are so good lol

Got ace hard bushings and it was still too loose. Now I’m having mini-logo 100 hard bushings and really enjoy the more controlled roll to precision stuff such as box grinds. Also manuals seem to be cleaner with harder bushings. I’m on the classic 44s though. Using it as secondary setup, weight is not issue when with mellow kicks deck and more f.o.f.

Damn so the hard Ace bushings are still really loose?! I've gotten used to the stock bushings now so I feel like the harder bushings will go well 🤔
@taneltolsting29004 ай бұрын
Haah! :D I don't know, honestly it's a personal preference. You look way heavier than me so in theory you might ask for harder bushings. I mean ace hard bushings still made me wheelbite and I've met another skater here that did the same thing, added hard bushings (he picked bones). So I felt that tuning the tightnes did not change much with ace hards and I didnt want them to explode (and I could not wait for them to turn harder since then I'd actually get used to them and trick my brain). Too loose truck lets me land not full 180-s and think that I did 180 - resulting loss of speed and looking too wobly. @@LeonPaxton

You should try the ace hard bushings. The stock bushings are great for crusing and bowls but they give to much wheel bite with street skating. The hard trucks don't mess with the turn they are just more forgiving.

Got Tensor Maglights that are around 270g each. It made my legs less tired in my late 30s and my sessions longer but I couldn't feel my flick properly. Lighter trucks make sense but somehow Venture low V-hollows felt much better although they are around 330g each. Lighter trucks are not necessarily better but heavier trucks are often harder to skate. For such a wide board every gram is too much (you even have the deck rails 😂) but at 8.25 most of trucks are manageable. Btw I'm surprised that you got Aces that made the shorter wheelbase while looking for 15inch wheelbase. You should probably try out Venture High V-hollows to get the longest wheelbase possible from your board.
@LeonPaxton4 ай бұрын
Damn they are actually the lightest aren't they! That's true, lighter trucks definitely have a purpose but they aren't for all aspects of skating. the Aces also have a very short wheelbase, which makes the pop feel much lighter, than with for example thunders or ventures. thats perhaps why Indys can get away with being so damn heavy. personally I do not feel as much a difference between my heaviest truck (around 375g) and my lightest truck (~305g) as I thought I would. however, the heavier truck is an indy and has a shorter wheelbase, so that may be why and if I had a big deck like yours, I'd probably want to save some weight too.
@ac60844 ай бұрын
That's correct. The axle to axle wheelbase is what gives it the feeling of "lightness" as it's easier to pop due to increased leverage. The aces are actually slightly shorter in wheelbase than Stg 11 Indys, which are in turn have a shorter wheelbase than Thunders or Ventures. And being that L. Paxton has been going up in size of decks, the smaller wheelbase of Aces makes it feel more similar to the narrower (lighter) decks that he originally learned to skate on.
@LeonPaxton4 ай бұрын
that's so true man! No wonder they feel so light since they are hollow and create a shorter wheel base as well👌🏼
@diplenski4 ай бұрын
i've not tried aces. there is def a point where trucks become too light, but i could see the benefit of a lighter truck in wider widths or longer wheelbases. most of my trucks are 8" or 8.25" and i tend to prefer standard weight indy or ventures. the 139 indy forged hollows are nice but on the brink of too light, the 148 thunder forged hollows are too light, for me anyway. i got some slappy bs feebles trying to bs 50/50 axle stall

half of the stuff you just say, its a repeat. i dont think you know how to review something thats pretty simple to see the difference...also lighter doesnt always mean better, you can break youre axel easily when its light, most average skaters break the lighter truck compared to a mid heavy or very heavy truck.. like Indys and Thunders. if you are a light weight dude. having a heavy setup is going to make you use more energy by popping higher and giving more impact, compared to a light set up
