How is your dog now after switching?

@@justkidding7523 My dog was very old (she was my childhood dog; my sister and I grew up with her) and passed away a few months ago from cancer. STILL, I believe that switching her to raw for the last year of her life was the best decision I've made about her wellbeing. When she was a senior, her skin allergies got really bad and she began to form black scabs. The vets weren't sure what to do, and prescribed a shampoo that only helped a little bit. One month after switching to raw, her skin allergies went away. The scabs were suddenly completely gone. Towards the end though, we did lightly cook her food and switched to bone meal because that was what suited her best. Raw is definitely a learning process, but I loved being more involved in knowing what my dog was eating. Every dog is different though! This was just my experience. When I adopt in the future, I plan to continue raw feeding. I'll always be grateful to Paws of Prey for being my guide throughout this journey!

Well actually, that applies to cats and ferrets as well! Frankenprey is incomplete and there are nutritional holes that need to be met with other species appropriate food or whole prey. Homemade diets are almost always lacking zinc, vitamin E, iodine, manganese, vitamin D, and omaga-3s.

Hi I personally think cooked food is totally fine but *never ever* give your dog cooked bone as it can cause problem in the intestine and can chock them

Meat which is cooked loses it's vitamins, minerals etc.

I am still learning about how to make a balanced cooked diet, because sometimes it works bet for the dog! Especially if they have a health issue like kidney failure. Once I am confident with my knowledge, I will definitely make a video.

Yeah, a few years back I wanted a snake, my parents said no snakes, so I did research on ferrets and got him! He got to it right away! He’s Turing 2 in December! And my dog that I got 2 moths ago is also on raw now! And I still ended up getting 7 snakes 😂😂 My hoggy is the hardest to keep on raw Bc of their insects, I have a mini insect breeding farm but it’s NEVER enough for her lol, so some times she gets a bit of kibble!

I'm starting to prefer raw. At first I thought it was a myth but I've never heard anyone who raw feeds their dog say they got salmonella. And honestly, as long as it's good meat balanced with healthy fruits and veggies than its fine.

I was stuck in that same struggle. It wasn't until I started working at a veterinary hospital that I got the information I needed to make my decision. A doctor I once worked with told me that if a food rep came into the animal hospital and suggested a food to recommend to patients, he wouldn't question it nor have any way to know any difference on if it was actually a good food or not. While he hasn't looked much into the raw diet to back it, he respected me and the passion I had about it, and fully understands the logic behind it. The other vets I've worked with also didn't advocate for it, but mainly because they know it's a lot of work to balance it, and they do not feel comfortable suggesting raw, because they wont have any way of knowing if these owners would actually put in that sort of work to balance it. Anyway, just want to let you know I understand how you feel! Thank you so much for still trying to understand this side of feeding without judgement.

You've been feeding your dog crackers?! You can switch to raw diet, or do research on healthy foods for dogs and recipes. Please don't feed your dog human food for years. I wouldn't recommend kibble, maybe raw meats and veggies.

First I would ask them if they're able to feed your dog raw and have a fridge and freezer. If they say yes then just meal prep so it's easy for them to dump and serve. You can also opt to feed a freeze dried raw food which makes things a lot easier

Good question! When I travel with Matsu, I have a styrofoam box that I use, but an ice chest works just as well if not better. I pack it with ice and icepacks. We have driven ~10 hours and the food was still semi frozen. I even flew with raw meat before! I packed it frozen and insulated it well in my baggage. It stayed frozen the whole flight.

If it's a puppy you can switch to a full raw diet right away, they don't need a transition, but you have to make sure it's balanced when you do that. If you want to go slow, then you can start with any cut you want, just make sure to start out with one protein and slowly add in more. This is to make sure they don't have an allergy to a certain protein, and if they do, you know what it is.

Unfortunately a multivitamin isn't a magic pill that balances the diet. Have you seen my video on fresh whole foods to add to balance the diet? The diet can help yes, but also a clean bedding/environment helps too. Baby food should only be given as a treat, it's not balanced!

@@alexajones3519 hi Alexa Jones sorry to barge in here but their are companies that sell raw complete. We Feed Raw is one. They include everything except oil such as fish oil, co co nut oil, ECT. Their prices are reasonable as well since I've been with four different companies prior and I also ground my own. It becomes second nature after you make your own

@@PawsofPrey I was given a can of wet dog food by Whole Earth Farms, which says to be grain free puppy food (I recently got an 8wk old pomeranian) and then had bought a small bag of those refrigerated dog food by the brand "FreshPet" the multi-protein complete meal. I've been watching a lot of your videos and hope to start feeding the barf diet.

nobody is saying that veterinarians are evil. the point is that they are brainwashed into believing whatever the pet food corporations want them to believe. it starts in vet school, as many corporations make donations to them, and have relations with teachers who promote their products.

Instead of blaming the behind the scene. It just saddened me that reading some comments here or some KZfaq videos putting the blame directly on the vets while I have someone work in the field. I personally do not eat meat of any kind and am on my way to going vegan but imo its pretty hypocritical to say "I would never destroy such a noble animal" but destroy others because its "normal". If my dog didn't react to other proteins I would feed a variety of meats but... What can you do?

I'm sorry that that happened. But I can assure you that raw food does not magically trigger an animal to suddenly have the drive to kill other animals. My cat and dog live with ferrets and a hedgehog, and I have also rehabilitated a few rabbits and squirrels and my cat and dog have been nothing but playful and gentle with every animal they have encountered. All carnivores can have prey drive, regardless of their diet.

Raw food for dogs and other animals does not make a dog want to kill another dog.
