This exactly what happened to my clothes now. I thought it was the washing machine. I'm gonna observe the Dryer now.

Mine is from my washing machine. I notice these spots when I take my clothes out the washing machine. So annoying!!

Yes I noticed on white sheets lines stripe marks. Yes It’s a used dryer 7 years for me and older I don’t know.

Thank you , sir - this little phenomenon had been bothering me for ages - our dryer should have died 4 years ago but we managed to fix it ourselves - this looks like a job too far though and a new dryer will be ordered later today .

We have a 2 year old GE stack washer/dryer at home and a brand new apartment size stack washer/dryer at our cottage. Love these machines, but I noticed some black streaks (like mascara lines, no spots) on sheets in the last few loads after taking them out of the dryer (I did a few loads at home, and a few loads at the cottage. I wouldn't think the gaskets would be failing with new machines, but it's possible. I took a flashlight to see if I could see anything oily or dirty around the back of the drum, on the our 2 year old dryer at home, but it looks fine. Could this be something else, other than a gasket?

We have had that issue from the day we bought our brand new GE dryer. After 6 years I’m finally getting around to having a technician come out to diagnosis the problem. GE acknowledged reports of this from other customers but would not offer any other info until the tech comes out.

The same exact issue happens to me with my GE stack washer/dryer as well, they are easily removable after i get white sheets out of the dryer but it still bothers me, were you able to find the cause of the problem?

Spots on our clothes and sheets are exactly like this guy's pillowcase. ARGH! And we rent our condo so we can't ruin renter's clothing....So, after a second dryer repair guy came to condo (& $$$$ spent), the explanation I got from a GE certified repair guy was that the drum dust/black soot is from the dryer spinning and since this is a beach condo, the sand that is (inevitably) in towels, socks.clothes etc....creates friction on the drum felt gasket/seal (.which on OUR dryer is BLACK ) & so it just happens...so NO answer/solution other than he showed me how to take a cleaning rag, and a butter knife, which I wedge up in the cavity between the drum and drum housing-- I then spin the dryer by hand, as the rag collects the BLACK stuff!!! The repair man also suggested not overloading dryer as it presses clothes up against the sides where the sooty stuff accumulates. I have tried oxi-clean spray stain remover, dishwashing liquid, bleach, soda and vinegar and NOTHING takes out the marks!!! I see below: SHOUT ...my next attempt. My husband had a good idea which I will try..as soon as the Amazon order arrives. Im putting our laundry in the jumbo mesh bags before putting in dryer...hoping this keeps the surface of clothing protected..but what about sheets and towels....IDK!! This is soooo very annoying. A new dryer can result in same situation since it's the BEACH!

I hate to tell you this, but I think the repair person is wrong. I seriously doubt the beach sand is causing this very frustrating problem, and I don't think its profitable to put up with the problem. I've been struggling with this issue, and I, too, have short-term tenants. Besides marking up many of my bed spreads, brand new sheets and towels, I was sick with worry about ruining guests' personal laundry. Anyhow, my assistant and I personally replaced the front and real felt seals and used a wire brush attachment on drill to scour the burnt lubricant from the metal grill at back of dryer. Everything worked great after all that for the next 5 loads, but to my horror, it's happening again. I'm picking up a new dryer tonight, since my business can't afford to suffer. I'll probably hang onto the existing one for my boyfriend's drop cloths and other professional painter gear.
