I think the main reason KZfaq is boring, is because KZfaq tries so hard to show me what IT thinks i want, that I just see the same crap over and over. Whether the creators chase the algorithm or not is irrelevant if the algorithm is going to give me the same shit every day anyway. There's an immense amount of video that gets uploaded that I have no way to even know the existence of. I might even pay extra for a way to get a list of the 100 latest videos uploaded.

KZfaq keeps only recommending big channels with over half a million subscribers when I generally want to watch small and new channels. You unlocked some interesting memories in me. Growing up in 1990's Poland, I would watch Education TV, a 6 hour or so segment on state TV that played during summer vacations at the time your parents were at work. It discussed topics like math, physics, electronics, paleontology (which 10yo doesn't love dinosaurs?) and many others in a kid-friendly way without being childish. It got me hooked on science. Everyone's trying to sell something or sell themselves, rather than BE themselves. In this attention economy, people seem to forget the other benefits to sharing vids other than "going viral", and that becomes the sole focus. I have no desire to appeal to a general( lowest common denominator ) audience, so have little fear of being cancelled, or being dropped by advertisers etc. What i do fear is censorship, because it puts my efforts to reach the select few I'm targeting, to waste. I love that so many people watch this channel. Typically my favorite creatives' vids have been viewed less than 1000 times. Despite putting out great ideas. The watcher no longer wants to give focus, doesn't feel satisfied and just clicks through videos out of old habit because they have to have something in the background distracting them from any possible tiny amount of boredom that might sneak up on a person because they've become so intolerant to boredom and so accusomed to splitting their attention everywhere all at once that a focused effort in learning becomes difficult.

There’s nothing “new” people only do what they know will sell…add on top of that, the KZfaq policies and having genuine fun on here is too risky.

Almost every youtuber has become a version of Mr. Beast.... "I drank olive oil for one week... This is what happened" "Can a shotgun kill a dinosaur?" The day youtube allowed, FAKE thumbnails, clickbaits, fake captions, KZfaq was doomed. Nobody makes content on youtube, its has become a greed game of VIEWS.

In the last year alone, I've noticed a major switch (for the worst) in KZfaqs algorithm. Been on here for ages and in the last year my 'For you' page on KZfaq is absolutely trash. Not sure which intern updated/broke it but someone definitely did.

Great video once again 😊. I would maybe add one important factor to whole YT, adds, as nowadays everything is about selling, so somehow seems logical that algorithm will developed based on it… but that’s just my wild guess. But if more people would disable the YT history, things may get more interesting. Though my YT home page looks ugly (as I cannot get rid of notification “Your watch history is off… Update settings” ) I am really happy that I don’t get instantly overwhelmed with YT’s suggestions based on e.g. my location, videos similar to content creators I’m already subscribed too, etc. Keep doing great job in the next year and wish you all happy holidays 😊

It's funny because my YT feed is mostly high and low level coding, mathematics, engineering, Astrophysics, and computer engineering. Like half of my recommendations have like 380 views and the other has like 500k. The last time I saw a Mr. Beast or other "relevant" KZfaqr pop up has been a while.

This video really hits the nail on the head. I find myself watching the first minute or so of YT videos and switching to something else. Oh sure, the video titles all have screaming click bait titles but, the content is becoming repetitive and boring. I'm subscribed to over 500 channels in an effort to find interesting content.

YT’s cookie cutter formula really making content creator’s messages extremely watered down and less organic. Most “creators” have a long-winded monologue about getting their likes up and not getting to the point. That turns me away.

I have felt this exact feeling of being overwhelmed with start-page content, to the point that I couldnt watch any of the videos in my subs anymore. I simply dont have time to watch it all, but I lack the satisfaction of seeing videos I actually care for, from my subs that I deliberately chose. There is a great chrome extention named "Unhook" I use. You can hide a great assortment of things that can be distracting, for example. I always turn off the start page and the recommended section. So when I open YT, it opens to the subs page. I can watch all the videos from my subs without being influenced or bothered by content YT wants me to see. And if I have a lot of time on my hands and not enough content to watch, I enable the start page for ten minutes, while browsing for vids I want to watch and putting them in my watch later playlist, before disabling it again.

I feel like the new meta will soon be back to poor or rough production but with quality subject/personality. People (adults) are slowly becoming tired of channels being ultra polished and want it back to the raw content where they felt like the video had soul. However I also believe it won’t be KZfaq. KZfaq has lost its way and they’ve gone past the point of no return. Just one opinion in an ocean of others

KZfaq feels more like cable now. Channels are forced to make one type of show on a regular schedule. And shorts are like commercials promoting these shows

Especially the recent trend where they cut off half of the short just to link to a much fuller video, when media companies stripped out every genre of entertainment until it was only heavily politicized reality TV after creating their own streaming platforms I just stopped watching cable entirely. Maybe I should do the same with KZfaq, everyone here recommends finding smaller creators who feel more genuine but it’s hard to actually find them at all compared to before.
@samomuransky44554 ай бұрын
I love how I never heard of any of the creators mentioned in the video, nor was I aware of any of the topics supposedly pushed by the algorithm according to the video. I guess that reinforces the premise of the narrative, since KZfaq feed seems to indeed be incredibly personalised. I actually don't think the algorithm is all that bad, it just needs to be less repetetive and more experimental. It is very good at determining what I like and what I don't - the issue is that if I spend a lot of time on one topic for a few days, it suddenly thinks I lost interest in all the other topics I've used to watch previously, no matter how many hours or literal days I've spend on them even last year.

I'm about 8 minutes into this video... and something you said resonated with me, enough to think of a better way for the algorithm(s) to work. Let's say you are interested in educational content. Maybe you should be given a chance to select a "genre", e.g. "philosophy", and be able to dial up or down the quality of the content... I dunno, just throwing ideas out there. I'm probably going to start content creating... and to kick it off, it's just going to be my voice, doing various things around my home. I need a good camera... and need to learn how to edit... but getting started will be my largest hurdle. Even if I use my phone to make a bunch of videos, then slap it all together as best I can... I'm ok with that. Aperture... I'm glad I found your channel. My algorithm has been providing really good content to me.
@user-kj5pq6zb2u4 ай бұрын
I’m only 53 seconds into the video so this might be mentioned in the video but another reason for me personally is that when I was younger everything was already more exciting because it was new to me. After years of mindless staring at a screen it gets a lot less interesting. Kind of similar to how it feels to try a drug for the first time vs how it feels to do that same drug after years of addictions, the first high is always the best and you’re constantly chasing it but never satisfied. Not to say a screen addiction is more dangerous than a drug addiction but I think it’s a decent comparison, kind of puts it into perspective?

ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. I feel bad for creators and it's limited my want to become one even though I think I have interesting things to share and could foster my own style. It's already hard work to make content and get people interested, the extra burden of pleasing the all mighty algo just seems demoralizing. I have a hard time bringing myself to do anything I consider even remotely cliche or repetitive without being fairly ironic about it.

KZfaq does have it's share of professionally content but KZfaq does have almost 20 yrs of content to draw from. There are ways to form your feed to content you like the most but typically I use the advanced search tool if looking for something specific. I eliminate shorts from my searches and short clip videos. Its about learning how to do content searches to get to the information you are looking for.
@unibeastbeats5 ай бұрын
I always tell my friends who complain about the social media, that use them liek they want you to use. That means use the options "not intrested about this post" that you can use in youtube and facebook, like content you like and dislike you dont like. Don't just scroll mindlessly, this way algorithm starts feeding you more and more mindnumbing bs. The more activly I use online, the more effectivly I get information that actually makes me better person in every field like relationships, health, wealth, my career and so on.
@damian93033 ай бұрын
It only starts coming back tenfold when you select that option, it’s all designed to keep you on their platform as long as possible. Ever since TikTok, the whole concept of doomscrolling seems to of been evermore popularized since it keeps users hooked trying to find something which interests them. I feel all selecting that option does is narrow down the sort of individual you are, which are what advertisers who are buying up massive sets of data want so that they can slither themselves in like a sleazy salesman.

During the early 2010s , if watch a video with 1 million views it would be worth your while and possibility is you would enjoy every second of it. Today a video can have 45 million views and its still possible that you would click away from the video within few minutes because its boring and cringe from the first second.

I use a chrome extension that prevents me from seeing thumbnails of random videos, I just see ones from the channels I subscribe to, so I'm less likely to be "captured" by the algorithm in that sense. Still, I do sometimes do searches, and even there I'll get fed, along with my search results, some random videos that have nothing to do with the search. So it's like KZfaq is trying to insert those wherever it can, which is pretty bad in my opinion, but oh well, apparently this is the price we way for having this platform. I can't imagine the stress involved in trying to grow a KZfaq channel, nor the stress involved with one that's actually become somewhat succesful. It seems like there's constant competition and copying of channels in order to play off the success of the ones they are copying, plus just the thought that you reached a certain mark of success and if you don't bust your a**, your channel might start declining. If your income is dependent on the channel, that produces that much more stress. Just seems like a thankless job unless you have a true love of both makin videos and a real mission of why you want to produce the content you do, but even then, I would think that it would still be pretty torturous unless you truly had no big investment in the outcome of the popularity (and monetary income) from the channel...

There are tkmes when im scrolling YT and I get it, this is what I watch, they have it right, but I don't want any of it at the moment. I can feel the robot trying to drag me in. The game it playing on the mind. So I do what you said search through my subscriptions to see what's new. Also, occasionally when I open YT it will be on reels. Playing some random video hoping I'll just begin mindlessly scrolling.
