As a writer with a family that has 148 members. We get bored one afternoon.

Which is why the Winds of Winter is taking so long to write compared to the other books. Winds of Winter is literally the peak of the series and he is trying to be very careful not to make a mistake all the while bringing the Long Night onto Westeros. People need to give him a break.

They briefly touch on Stark cousins in the books. Robb disinherits Sansa (due to her being married to Tyrion Lannister) and believing the rest of his full siblings (& Benjen) to be dead, needs to name an heir. He ends up having to choose whether to legitimise Jon and name him heir, or choose a third cousin from the Vale (a Royce, I think) as heir. Only Catelyn wants the Vale guy. If you assume R + L =/= J (which I don't BTW) , then Robb has no first cousins or second cousins... so he's in a bit of a bind because of the Stark family bottleneck.

Also, this family tree is based on 'A World of Ice and Fire'. It only indicates children that were live births or lived long enough to be named. Nowhere does it state that all of them lived long enough to marry or reproduce. For example, one of the many Brandon's in the tree was wet-nursed by Old Nan and died at the age of three. The point is, there are less descendants than one would think. (Just look at the Targaryen tree after the 'Dance of Dragons', most of that generation's branches didn't get far.)

Probably those branches died out. Perhaps, most of the sons didn't marry or didn't live long enough to marry. (Look at Ned's brothers for an example; Brandon died without fathering a son and Benjen joined the Night's Watch) If the distant Stark cousins were still around, they would probably be living in Winterfell along with the ruling branch, wouldn't they? And we would know about them by now.

@All Might Not necessarily, it just depends on which house had the most recent Stark female married into their house. Let's say the Glovers had a Stark marry in 3 generations prior and that was the earliest of any house, their descendants may have a better claim. But I do think Karstarks also have a pretty good claim since they come directly from a male line. Shame there isn't any challenging by the Karstarks against anyone considering they assumed all male Starks are gone.

Wow, it is really overwhelming how much work and effort George put into all the story. People, who only watch the series (like me) probably lose a LOT of the actual content of the original book series. I dont really want to start reading the books, because i am afraid that the series is too much changed from the original book storyline. Maybe you know how much the storyline of the books and the series actually diverge? Great videos btw, probably a lot of work to figure out all this information ;) (english is not my mother language so pls excuse my mistakes)

+KackBon3rdGen The first book is basically the same as the first season, as far as I remember; scenes from the first book are translated into the show word for word quite often. Later seasons start small divergences, and once you reach books 4 and 5 (which are basically one book divided along geographic lines) the real differences start to show. The name and future of Robb's wife is the first rather significant departure from the books I think, and the show has unfortunately butchered the Dorne storyline completely, cutting most characters and focusing on the silly Sand Snakes. Also, what happens in Dorne in the first episode of this season doesn't happen in the books at all, and is a quite foolish decision on Dan and Dave's part I think.
