A Wisconsin man stands trial for allegedly murdering and dismembering his parents without remorse, and providing false information on their disappearances. Chandler Michael Halderson, 23, faces charges including first-degree intentional homicide. Remains from his father Bart Halderson, 50, and mother Krista Halderson, 53, were found days apart, authorities said.
Defendant Halderson reported his parents missing July 7th, claiming they left their home in the Village of Windsor days before on the 1st. He told WISC-TV at the time that they were going to the village of White Lake, Wisconsin.
“My last message I got from them, they were going to White Lake for the Fourth of July,” he told “There are some festivities that go around there. Better drink prices at the bars. Stuff like that.”
He said that to his knowledge, they were then going to their cabin in Langlade County.
“Along the way, they could’ve stopped many places,” he said. “I wouldn’t know all of them.”
He was allegedly just feeding everyone lies.
Bart’s torso was found in rural Dane County, while remains from Krista were found in Sauk County and property run by the Department of Natural Resources, according to court documents obtained by The Wisconsin State Journal.
Their son had been searching Google for terms like “Body found Wisconsin,” “Woman’s body found in Wisconsin,” “Wisconsin dismembered body found,” and “Dead body found in Wisconsin,” authorities said. Investigators suggested Chandler Halderson used to a visit to property belonging to the partner of his girlfriend’s mother as cover to hide his father’s torso nearby. He had shot Bart Halderson at least once before dismembering him, officials said.
According to investigators, Halderson said after his arrest that “you don’t know the whole story,” and that he “didn’t feel bad about what I did.”

The irony is that if Chazzle hadn’t killed his parents but had killed someone else, his parents would’ve gotten him the best defense attorneys money could buy. He killed the only two people who unconditionally loved him. They were nice people. You can see it in the text exchanges. He’s heartless and evil and I’m glad he has NO ONE to save him.

How the heck does one go from Eagle Scout to this? Clearly he wasn't so mentally ill that he couldn't stand trial... It is impossible to grasp how a "sane-ish" person can kill his parents, chop them up, and disperse their bodies. Why didn't he plea? It sounds like he didn't want a defense.

This closing argument is an excellent example of what not to do when defending a murderer. -Don't lie during your closing argument -If the prosecution has a strong case, don't say it's a weak case -Don't misrepresent what 'a reasonable doubt' means -Don't insult the jury's intelligence -Don't insult the jury -Don't accuse the jury of crimes -Don't criticize the prosecution of not proving motive, then immediately remind the jury that the prosecution doesn't have to prove motive -Don't criticize the medical examiner for not know irrelevant facts about the bodies (the order of the wounds...seriously?) -Don't complain when the prosecution doesn't dehumanize the victims -If you want to dispute a fact in evidence, do it during the trial -If you want to make assumptions about why the client did something, call the accused as a witness

Well said & exactly right. Don't swear too would be another. She was absolutely appalling & what a total cop-out tactic to wait until all is almost over, with no witnesses called whatsoever, to nitpick and downgrade such a big piece of who this waster was, a liar & a skinny runty one at that. How she could stand there and say that his lies had nothing to do with this & that "all kids lie"? Hmmm well first up he's twenty piggin three so not exactly a 'kid' I've never seen a defense like it. There are plenty of convicts who also had little chance at trial because of overwhelming evidence that at least had a defense who LOOKED like they were doing something. Unbelievable.

Maybe a full half million dollars was not what he was after but a stylish upkeep was something he was after and revenge for not being able to have that money coming in regularly. I am an attorney and former law enforcement officer. Hands down one of the worst examples of a closing argument. Yes, I have found myself defending cases that were not so great. However, you have to develop a theory and implement that theory in a way the jury is able to relate. Simply attacking the other side when you are faced with these types of facts and evidence is deplorable. In the famous words of Charles Barkley, this closing argument is “terribleeeeee”.

I think Chandler should have pled guilty and thrown himself at the mercy of the court. At least he would have had the chance to tell the truth for once in his life. I think he was terrified of his embarassing lies exposed and in all likelihood would have lost his girlfriend. Not an excuse but at least he would have had the opportunity to explain the unexplainable. He would have had the chance to apologize to his entire family, Cat and her family and everyone else that ever loved Bart and Krista. I still think he would have gotten a life sentence but at least he could have been left with a very small shread of dignity--maybe the possibility of parole when you admit your actions and are remorseful (?) I dunno. As it is, he will never have the chance for parole. Realistically, his lawyers must have known that he was full of BS. They should have gotten him to plead guilty. This was never a "who done it". His lawyers had ridiculous arguments but in fairness to them, they had nothing to work with. So much overwhelming forensic evidence on top of all the circumstantial evidence.

Their job is to show the prosecution didn't do their job, they didn't prove he murdered them _beyond_ a reasonable doubt. The only path through this mess is to get him acquitted on the first degree murder. No way are they going to get an acquittal on the lesser charges. Their goal is get him acquitted of first degree homicide. Get that done, and he's facing a lot less jail time. That is the _best_ _case_ scenario for the defense team. This is the perfect closing argument for this case. Makes about as much sense as the crime.

The worst closing argument I think I’ve ever heard, by the least likeable attorney.

Her defense is that the prosecution proved their case too hard and it was annoying. Cool.

She accuses the jurors of lying-- not once, but TWICE during her speech! Unbelievable.

I could not believe it! Those juries were probably sad, heart broken and devastated looking at all those pictures and evidence. The fact that she came out there telling them they lied is absolutely uncalled for. She is extremely incompetent.

People do lie though. Why is that offensive. The issue is the lack of relevance not the accusation

She should have just stood up, looked at Chazzle Dazzle, shrugged, 🤷🏻‍♂️ then sat back down. It would have been better than that closing argument 😖☹️

I predict that the jury will have a decision within an hour of beginning deliberation. Most of the time they take will be filling out the paperwork.
