Live Coverage: WI v. Chandler Halderson - Dismembered Parents Trial
Happening in Court:
Dr. Christina Figuero Soto-Forensic Anthropologist
CHARGES:
Victim Bart Halderson:
COUNT 1: First-degree Intentional Homicide
COUNT 2: False Info on Kidnapped or Missing Persons
COUNT 3: Mutilating a corpse
COUNT 4: Hiding a Corpse
Victim Krista Halderson:
COUNT 5: First-degree Intentional Homicide
COUNT 6: False Info on Kidnapped or Missing Persons
COUNT 7: Mutilating a corpse
COUNT 8: Hiding a Corpse
A Wisconsin man stands trial for allegedly murdering and dismembering his parents without remorse, and providing false information on their disappearances. Chandler Michael Halderson, 23, faces charges including first-degree intentional homicide. Remains from his father Bart Halderson, 50, and mother Krista Halderson, 53, were found days apart, authorities said.
Defendant Halderson reported his parents missing July 7th, claiming they left their home in the Village of Windsor days before on the 1st. He told WISC-TV at the time that they were going to the village of White Lake, Wisconsin.
“My last message I got from them, they were going to White Lake for the Fourth of July,” he told “There are some festivities that go around there. Better drink prices at the bars. Stuff like that.”
He said that to his knowledge, they were then going to their cabin in Langlade County.
“Along the way, they could’ve stopped many places,” he said. “I wouldn’t know all of them.”
He was allegedly just feeding everyone lies.
Bart’s torso was found in rural Dane County, while remains from Krista were found in Sauk County and property run by the Department of Natural Resources, according to court documents obtained by The Wisconsin State Journal.
Their son had been searching Google for terms like “Body found Wisconsin,” “Woman’s body found in Wisconsin,” “Wisconsin dismembered body found,” and “Dead body found in Wisconsin,” authorities said. Investigators suggested Chandler Halderson used to a visit to property belonging to the partner of his girlfriend’s mother as cover to hide his father’s torso nearby. He had shot Bart Halderson at least once before dismembering him, officials said.
According to investigators, Halderson said after his arrest that “you don’t know the whole story,” and that he “didn’t feel bad about what I did.”

I’m surprised chandler didnt give up during his crime. Dismembering a body is hard work and he had 2. It was probably the hardest work he has ever done and the only thing he stuck with until the end.

The amount of times he attempted to cut and failed, had to change tools and started cutting again really shows the amount of time he spent on dismemberment. How anyone could do that is just insane but to do it to your own parents is mind blowing.

It is absolutely mind blowing he did this to his parents over the simple reason he got caught lying about having a job and going to school. Yes his parents may have been extremely upset with him but I’m sure it was nothing that they couldn’t get past and get him back on the right track in life, but he simply couldn’t handle that exposure of his lies to his mother and girlfriend and possibly a motivation for money in life insurance policies. He’s too much of a psychopath to handle his issues in a reasonable manner and decided murdering and dismembering his parents was the best solution, and to think he could get away with it 🤷‍♂️ shows how highly he thinks of himself and his intelligence.

The Defense knew there was no hope for any good outcome for Chandler. That's why they're not saying much. To be fair to them, it was a reasonable and respectful position to take. They didn't create any courtroom theatrics. They had to fight the case because Chandler pleaded not guilty. But they didn't resort to the usual nonsense some defense attorneys use

@M W “When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses … the (actual) truth will seem utterly preposterous and the speaker (of the actual truth), a raving lunatic.” It takes an awful lot of effort both physically and mentally to murder dismember and incinerate (partially) two fully grown adults and dispose of the remains.far beyond this guy's capability.. Something tells me we’re looking at birds of a feather “Will you leave me even if it doesn’t work? Worded bad but you understand”. So the girlfriend knew he planned to kill his parents, on July 1st 2021. Wow, wow, wow. Chandler wants her to leave after dinner on July 2nd, so he can “get some chores done” ie. Dispose of his parents. When asked if she knew what chores he had that night, there is a long, shaky pause, and she replies “I don’t recall”. She knew. Then at 6:02:16, he tells her “ we set for this we just need ice”. And she brought the hydrogen peroxide and stiffer jet cleaner. Just what you need for dinner! OMG, they hatched this together. Or is that normal in Wisconsin to mop with peroxide and be so ignorant/incompetent to know what was going on? If that is so Wisconsin women need help immediately from the government Her police interview would make interesting viewing,I wonder why they are not releasing it, any idea? I have.

This is an insane amount of work for a crime scene. I am watching the part about the ash trap, and it strikes me how many hundreds of hours of painstaking labor just this woman put into getting Bart and Krista justice. I wonder if the killer is sitting there and thinking “I had no idea there were people who could sift through an ashtrap all day.” I am also wondering how someone chooses this as a profession. What makes a human want to study death, saws, bones, and how much death has had to occur to get the sciences where they are today. Then, there’s an ungrateful son. I’ve been watching this case, and I was looking at my 7 year old son today, wondering how a kid could grow up to shoot his mom, saw up her body, and throw her head and hands in a fire. It boggles the mind.

The Dane County District Attorney, William Brown is one of the most gifted orators I’ve ever heard. This county has invested and hired wisely with their competent police force, to whom, they’ve given opportunity for further education, become more specialized and made it possible for the men and women to all shine with their thorough, thoughtful and caring way they have handled themselves throughout the investigation and trial phases. The experts DA Brown has brought on this case are world class experts. They’ve all been well credentialed and impressive.

Did the defense attorney think she was making her client look better when she asked, "You couldn't tell if these bones were from one human or SIX humans, correct?" Good grief! Was she implying that perhaps her boy had killed SIX people and burned them in the fireplace or was she trying to insinuate that Krista and Bart had spent long cold Wisconsin evenings burning people in their fireplace? She needs to remember that the majority of these fragments were taken from the TOP layer of ash and that would have been attributable to dear old Chandler! This guy needs to NEVER see the outside of a prison again.

Dr. Soto’s testimony and research is very important in order to tell the story of the trauma to skeletal remains. This helps build a case. There is not much wiggle room to get away with murder. For those who want to understand what osteoarcheology can achieve, consider watching the identification of King Richard III of England from 1485. The whole research team was able to identify King Richard III through archeology, osteoarcheology, DNA, anthropology, terrain analysis and weapons. Some of the same team members study the battle of Towton combatants from the archeological/historical sites in England. It may not seem important to identify 600 year old humans, but some of these researchers work on current murder/homicide cases. If any of these persons are your family members, it becomes very important to identify the remains and secure justice for the victims.

The defense, in this case, is unbelievably inept but I can't help but think that this may be used as some sort of anchor for an appeal later down the line. Barely 2 minutes of cross in over two hours of highly detailed testimony is staggering. I can only speculate that the defense's case rests on some scenario where Chandler either discovered his parent's murder or was somehow caught up in attempting to protect his mother & ended up killing his father. He then panicked and disposed of them. Of course, this is absurd. I've watched many trials & rarely have I reached a conclusion of guilt as quickly as in this instance. The evidence is overwhelming & I'm struggling with how it ever came to court. Chandlers' incompetence & sheer laziness in attempting to cover his tracks beggars belief.

The word “right” here is used to confirm understanding by her audience. It is a form of engagement as opposed to simply lecturing. She uses it while speaking directly to the jury or lawyers to detect signs of them either understanding or being confused about her explanations.
