A Wisconsin man stands trial for allegedly murdering and dismembering his parents without remorse, and providing false information on their disappearances. Chandler Michael Halderson, 23, faces charges including first-degree intentional homicide. Remains from his father Bart Halderson, 50, and mother Krista Halderson, 53, were found days apart, authorities said.
Defendant Halderson reported his parents missing July 7th, claiming they left their home in the Village of Windsor days before on the 1st. He told WISC-TV at the time that they were going to the village of White Lake, Wisconsin.
“My last message I got from them, they were going to White Lake for the Fourth of July,” he told “There are some festivities that go around there. Better drink prices at the bars. Stuff like that.”
He said that to his knowledge, they were then going to their cabin in Langlade County.
“Along the way, they could’ve stopped many places,” he said. “I wouldn’t know all of them.”
He was allegedly just feeding everyone lies.
Bart’s torso was found in rural Dane County, while remains from Krista were found in Sauk County and property run by the Department of Natural Resources, according to court documents obtained by The Wisconsin State Journal.
Their son had been searching Google for terms like “Body found Wisconsin,” “Woman’s body found in Wisconsin,” “Wisconsin dismembered body found,” and “Dead body found in Wisconsin,” authorities said. Investigators suggested Chandler Halderson used to a visit to property belonging to the partner of his girlfriend’s mother as cover to hide his father’s torso nearby. He had shot Bart Halderson at least once before dismembering him, officials said.
According to investigators, Halderson said after his arrest that “you don’t know the whole story,” and that he “didn’t feel bad about what I did.”

The defense strategy was a very risky one. It's rarely used, and consists of the hope of a giant asteroid striking the courtroom without any warning, thus making the trial impossible to continue.

I couldn’t believe it when he stated that he had suffered a head injury!! I knew Chandler was jealous of his brothers Diabetes diagnosis and that was one of the reasons he “fell” down the stairs. Chandler needed something to “ prevent “ him from going to Florida for his “job” at SpaceX …..Chandler decided to use this kids “ head injury 🤕 “ because he had probably listened to everything that had happened……this kid left the service because of his injury and Chandler jumped on the bandwagon! How convenient that these 2 had the same injury!

Yeah, and it's really best for them to do as little cross-examination as possible on the actual experts. I can see exactly the kind of case they're building with their questions, which will be laid out at the end of the trial. They'll be trying to invoke reasonable doubt by showing that the prosecution has only proved that Chandler *could have* done it, not that he is the *only one* who could have. They actually did a decent job with Andrew Smith here. They got him to say that the gun is very loud and that a silencer can't be attached to the gun, which is important because no neighbors heard any gunshots. They got him to admit that he gives away guns, including Chandler's gun, without actually following legal protocol to change ownership. And finally, they ended the questioning as soon as he made himself look bad and defensive by unnecessarily snapping at the defense.

Every other person in his life that they could have called as a witness was made up. Imagine asking chandler as his lawyers. I wonder if he was like “there’s joe johnson, my boss at x job.” And then the lawyers asked if he could testify and then Chandler gave some bs answer as to why they couldn’t. Or if he was like “that person doesn’t actually exist. Maybe when they asked him, he just said no, he doesn’t have anyone he knows to be a witness for him.

Please tell me where the proof is that links Chandler to the murder? Put your emotions aside and think facts. Yes all the weapons show DNA of the victims, but how will the State be able to prove Chandler committed the murderous act? A lot of people are using their emotions to render a verdict - use your facts please. Im pretty sure Chandler did it, and he is a monster, BUT the state has to prove he murdered them and I have yet to see them do that.

He is deeply ill. This is a mental disease. It's a pathology. If we keep judging these behaviors as " evil" we will never find a remedy. How can you cure evil? But if instead we see these cases as pathological, then we can treat them and perhaps even prevent them. I sometimes wonder if Bart, after learning that Chandler was lying would have thought for a moment that his son was deeply ill- and instead of judging him as a liar, would have sought out psychiatric help for his son perhaps he would be alive now. It's impossible to accept that these parents had no clue about any of his lies ever. Chandler did not start lying" when he became a freshman or a sophomore. Actually these aren't lies, these are complexed fantasies - a world that his brain created and it became his reality and identity. This is a desease that started when he was a young child. A lie is when you tell your teacher my dog ate my homework, or when you tell your mom that you took a shower when you didn't or when you say something looks good when it doesn't. His parents saw something was wrong with him and ignored it.

I like this DA. He seems to make it a point that the people acting as witnesses had nothing to do with it. Not just because it's the right thing to do (because the jury might possibly think otherwise), it will hurt the defense, as their main strategy seems to be instilling the idea Chandler wasn't the ONLY one who might have killed his parents.

It depends on a few things. In theory you're supposed to answer any and all questions. The defense should have told the judge he was nonresponsive. However, the prosecution probably could have objected on grounds of relevance (Might be overruled on credibility grounds.) and of course if he committed a crime or thought he did, then he could have plead the fifth, which would have also allowed him not to answer. The defense was not really asking a relevant question, but she still did drop the ball by not asserting his answer as nonresponsive and either forcing him to answer or prompting the court to do its job. Disclaimer of course: I'm not a lawyer.

It bothers me when someone knows just enough about something to think they know something. This friend, when asked about a flash hider, talked about a flash hider, a muzzle brake and a supressor so poorly that if a jurist didn't know the difference they'd think they were the same thing, or closely related.
