After the very positive response from our West Side Story (2021) coverage, we now bring you our coverage of the first teaser trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked! In this video join host Mackenzie as he does a shot by shot breakdown of this trailer. There is surprisingly quite a bit to discuss including what appears to be several shots from part 2 that is coming in 2025!

@5:45 I think this is the opening shot of Part 1, like you were saying as a homage to the giant witch hat in the beginning of the original production

i think if either of the og's are playing galinda's mom, it's probably kristin. it makes more sense for kristin to play her mom, despite kris being the og galinda. i don't see idina being a good fit for galinda's momma. also, kris mentioned forever ago she "visited" ari on set but was really secretive about the details she gave out so i feel like she's playing momma upland!

this made me even more excited 😩 tbh i don’t know much at all about the wizard of oz or wicked. i’ve been diving into the wicked soundtrack ever since i heard the leaks of ariana singing no one mourns the wicked (which is def the part i’m most looking forward to, wow that song/scene is great). thanks so much for this thorough video!

also, i’m assuming madame morrible ends up being like a villain in the story, correct? i feel like michelle is gonna perform the hell out of that role

We are so happy you enjoyed our video! Wicked is certainly a special musical that has many layers to it as well as beautiful and powerful songs. This movie looks to be a very promising adaptation for sure.

Yes Mme. Morrible like all the characters in this piece lives in the world of grey and can certainly be viewed as an antagonist by some. Once you see it you'll have to let us know what you think of the character. Michelle Yeoh will be great in the role for sure.

I’ve seen literally every first look trailer reaction that’s on KZfaq and yours is the best! Very great insight and details! P.S. spoilers are kind of the best especially since it’s a broadway musical oh and book lol so don’t hold out on them(spoilers)

I think you’re right that it’s the hat after she’s been melted but just like the show, I think this happens at the very start of the movie. The audience sees the aftermath of the melting because everyone knows the story of The Wizard of Oz and what happens to the Wicked Witch. Then the story flashes back to tell the story of how we got there.

16:02 I think that shot of the hat casting a shadow on Elphaba's face (so we can't see her eyes, we're only seeing the lower half of her face) is a nod to the show's logo, with the brim of the hat covering her eyes and only the lower half of her face visible. 18:07 Huh. I thought that was Glinda whom she was talking to in that scene.

I agree that the moment at 16:02 is a homage is the Wicked logo image and from set pics the moment at 18:07 Elphaba does have this conversation with Mme. Morrible but we will have to wait and see.

22:22 I suspect that this scene might be a figment of Galinda's imagination in the Dorm Scene when they're sharing secrets and Galinda tells Elphaba that she and Fiyero are going to be married and we're seeing how she envisions her wedding. But I might be wrong.

if that scene isn't in part 2 then having it part of the Popular sequence would be a good spot to have that wedding moment.
