Beautiful array of colours. I just foraged some cherries and rasps last night. We aren't so blessed around here with the redcurrant or bilberry however but I really aim to sample the bilberry one day. We have salmonberry which is delicious.

@@WoodlandClassroom yeah I had to dig a fair bit to identify it after first discovering it. It appears to be native to North America so finding it in a quiet wooded area of Aberdeen was pretty surprising. They basically resemble raspberries but the fruit tends to be larger, probably shop bought size. They are yellow/orange in colour. I've seen opinions labelling them as pretty bland but personally I find them amazing. Again like raspberry in sweetness but not as tart maybe? They spoil very fast once picked though so if I want to freeze and store them it's a "last job of the day and quick march home" kind of job.

To add to the list: Rowan Berry (Mountain Ash), or related species, are very commonly planted in parks, gardens and towns. The true Mountain Ash is fairly rare in my experience, but you do come across it in the uplands. The berries are very astringent/tart, but can be made into a cordial that isn't too dissimilar from cranberry in taste. It is a strong diuretic and high in tannins though, it isn't something to eat raw! Then of course there's elderberries that are coming into season now. They're poisonous if not cooked, but made into a cordial they are very nice if not a bit subtle. If you're near the coast, you might have some Sea Buckthorn along the sand dunes. Their orange berries taste like starbursts. They're a bit sour, but are full of tropical flavours. They're amazing as-is, as a juice or jam. They're also full of nutrients.

Thanks for the shared knowledge. All good advice. Rowan and Elder definitely need cooking before being eaten. The Mountain Ash isn't a rare tree nationally but it may be the case in your local area. There are a lot of cultivars that you fin in urban areas for sure.
