Its not very palatable raw off the stump, but Its better to make a tea out of it and drink the tea for the medicinal benefits. The texture is very woody and dense, soo most people dont prefer to eat them like a regular mushroom, but extract the beneficial compounds out of it through a tincture, decoction or tea! 🍵

Wild lettuce has absolutely nothing to do with opium. It contains no opiate alkaloids & does not even agonize the opioid receptors. So that's just a flat out lie. It does have mild sedative effects that have nothing to do with opiates. The picture of the "addict" in the beginning is just stereotyping & fear mongering, while a fake alternative is being pushed.

This is what I tell people. Three kinds grow in my area and work about the same. I doesn't work as well for acute pain like a broken leg, sprain or tooth ache. It does work well for long term chronic pain. Always start with small doses and work your way up, just in case it disagrees with you. I dehydrate it and make tea; seriously nasty tasting; drink fast and chase it with something. 1 teaspoon - 1 tablespoon crushed dry leaves steeped in 4 to 6 ounces steaming water; just like brewing any tea. My husband smokes it in his pipe. It burns hot and fast, so mixing 50/50 with pipe tobacco helps it not overheat your pipe. The only complaint I've heard is 'It didn't make me high'. I asked is your pain better and they said yes, but I didn't feel anything. You can concentrate it it enough to get a buzz, but it tears my stomach up. You need less and less rather than more. Not addictive and legal. Win, win.

I smoke this and have been for more than a few years now, this stuff works great for sleep and pain. Please, don't listen to these people in the comments, who say it don't work... you must find the best plant as there is many different species of the Wild Lettuce You should be looking for 4-6-foot-tall plants with yellow or purple flowers with tiny spine needles on the bottom of the stem. with dandelion looking leaves. Best time to Harvest is right before all the flowers are open, as that's when the plant is most potent. Please, don't use any leave that have any spots or have turned brown, just throw them away. If you want to use as a tea, you might want to add a dash of salt and sweeten to taste. the salt takes a lot of the bitterness out. you can use Honey, Maple syrup, or just about any sweetener you like. If I make a tea, I use the caned sweetened Kool-Aid in mine. I find it taste so much better. When I harvest plants, I hang them upside down for a day (24 hours), then dehydrate in a fan less heated Dehydrator for 3-4 days or until crisp to touch. then mash them up with a wire potato masher. and smoke in just a reg. pipe you can also use 50/50 with medical cannabis, for the same Mood boost. I am no Doctor or anything like that, I'm just user and this is how I use it. I do recommend you see a real doctor before use. as this has had some adverse or allergic reacting to some people. most people have no problems with use but just in case see your doctor first, please! The thing I like about Wild lettuce, is it helps A LOT with my pain, and you I don't get that weird feeling like in pain meds I've taken in the past before I found out about this stuff. Hope it helps you as it has helped me. Just one guy's opinion.

Milkweed also has a white latex The milk will dissolve warts. In the fall we would call them pod plants. Being curious, I would peel open the brown seed pods and see the silky seed "parachutes". I had a huge wart on my left hand. Older brother told me, dab it with milkweed several times a day. Keep doing it until the wart dissolves. It only took a few days and the wart become soft. I picked the wart off and it bled a little bit. There was sort of a depression that later healed and no more wart. Ever again. It didn't grow back. Milkweed also has other medicinal purposes, thanks for the video.

Thats great Anson. I live in Pryor, Ok. Not too far from you! I hope Wild Lettuce will help you find some relief. Just be careful with the Kratom. If you keep upping your dose to try to get the same effects you got in the beginning as your tolerance increases, it will start having opiate like withdrawal symptoms. Id try not to take Kratom daily, but maybe 3 times a week max at around 3g a dose, and only when you are in severe pain. Have a great day neighbor! 🌿

I took the leftover minced lettuce and dried it out. I put it in a cigarette tube and smoked it. The taste was a bit strong but not bad. I didn't think it did anything until I drove to go get real cigarettes . Then I noticed that I could see every piece of gravel and crack on the road as I drove, tunnel vision. This made me "happy" and amazed. I became extra aware what I focused my mind on, but other things just didn't matter. Only a few times it didn't work as well. This year I going to cure the leaves like tobacco and use just the stalks for the latex.

Thats good advice. Most wild edibles especially ones that contain bitter elements like dandelion, milk thistle and wild lettuce aren't the most flavorful and palatable, but the medicinal benefits are the reasons people consume them. I find the best way is to make an alcohol or vinegar tincture of the plant, and take a dropper full twice a day, and just get the medicine down for the health benefits. I have eaten wild lettuce sautéed in garlic and olive and its much more tasty, but raw it is very bitter for sure. 🌿

Around the time I was like 10 I think, we had a lot of this plant variety in our garden, and some years it grew taller than me (was probably around 150cm) and had finger-thick trunks with small spikes, and it would always be sticky with this liquid when you broke them. I used to spend the day struggling to pluck them from the ground, then carrying more than I could barely hold to feed to our chicken. It always seemed like they particularly enjoyed that plant more than others. I guess now I know why.

Been on morphine and oxycodone for over 10 -12 years now for chronic pain and wild lettuce has taken over my yard, the kind growing here has white flowers that float in the wind when they bloom, in South West Florida and never thought of the (weeds) taking over my lawn as medicine, wish I knew how to get off the pain meds without the withdrawal and use the free meds that I have been trying to get rid of, life is full of irony but you just have to laugh at the fact that I could have saved a bunch of money and not got addicted to opiates

@WalkInTheWildMedia
@WalkInTheWildMedia 2 ай бұрын
Ive tried Kratom and know what you mean. They act like it is harmless, but since its an opium agonist plant that acts on our opium receptors in the brain it will cause opium like addiction and withdraws. The tolerance you quickly build up with kratom sucks too, because you need more and more of it to get the same effects you got in the past. if you are dealing with pain I would try other things like a diet and exercise approach with other herbs like turmeric, ginger, rosemary, feverfew, capsaicin, boswellia and try to stay away from long term kratom use or at least cycle it in a few times a month during extreme pain, but kratom can also cause dopamine depletion and make you feel like a zombie after awhile. But for real, Diet, Exercise like running and weight lifting can help alot of physical problems. Stretching, mobility, yoga, lots of sleep and using those massage guns on the affected area really help. Oral CBD is great too. Hope that helps friend! 🌿

Dried leaves and powdered leaves can be used to make tea by steeping 1 to 2 tablespoons of the dried herb or 1 to 2 teaspoons of the powder into a cup of boiling water. Take 2 times a day for pain. For Capsules of the plant: 400 milligrams (mg) per day once in the morning and once at night. 200mg per dose. For Tincture: 1 full dropper full, two times daily. The extract will have more sedative effects, and is great before bed for sleep. The plant is very bitter, so be prepared for it to not have the most appealing flavor. A little honey, stevia, monk fruit or xylitol will help. It also helps to mix it with mint or something fruity like hibiscus. Hope that helps Michael! 🌿

You're welcome Stephanie! Im happy you found some information that will hopefully help you find pain relief for your condition that is going on with your hands. Yes, wild lettuce also known as prickly lettuce or Lactuca serriola, can be found in Pennsylvania. It is a common weed that grows in various habitats, including fields, roadsides, waste areas, and disturbed sites throughout much of North America, including Pennsylvania. You will likely find it growing outside this spring and summer. You can also buy seeds and it grows easily like other lettuces. Some other plants and herbs you might look into for their nervine and analgesic properties for pain management are: Willow Bark (Salix spp.): Willow bark contains salicin, which is similar to aspirin and has been used for centuries to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Turmeric (Curcuma longa): Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has anti-inflammatory properties and may help alleviate pain, particularly in conditions like arthritis. Ginger (Zingiber officinale): Ginger has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and may help reduce muscle pain and soreness. Capsaicin (Capsicum annuum): Found in chili peppers, capsaicin can desensitize pain receptors in the skin, leading to temporary pain relief. It is often used in topical creams for conditions like arthritis and neuropathic pain. Arnica (Arnica montana): Arnica is commonly used in topical preparations for its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, particularly for muscle aches and bruises. Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens): Devil's claw has been traditionally used to relieve joint pain and inflammation, and some research suggests it may be beneficial for conditions like osteoarthritis. Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa): Kratom contains compounds that act on opioid receptors in the brain and may have pain-relieving effects. However, it also carries potential risks and side effects and is a subject of regulatory scrutiny. (Take sparingly can be addictive, because it does act on the opioid receptors) Valerian (Valeriana officinalis): Valerian root has mild sedative properties and may help alleviate pain associated with muscle tension and stress. Hope that helps Stephanie! I hope you can find relief. Exercise and Diet are huge too. Also long warm baths in Epsom salt, and daily meditation are known to help too!

The microgreen stage of the plant may not contain significant amounts of latex, as the latex typically accumulates in older parts of the plant, such as the stems. So ideally you would want to use larger plants if the lactucin and lactucopicrin content is what you are after.

There's no way you are going to eradicate wild lettuce. It would be like scheduling foxtails and dandelions.

It's latex not opium. Try it in tandem with THC. Only eat a small bite after de-spineing. It's bitter . This is my own recipe, not saying it medically sound. It's how I deal with pain.

@@frankmcmahon5820 Thats interesting Frank, if you really want to experience more benefits, I would make a tincture of the sap and ingest it orally. Just like CBD and THC with Cannabis. You are able to absorb alot more of the bioavailable compounds by not burning them, but eating them. The heat destroys alot of the beneficial active compounds. 🌿
