↠ Check out our Nature is Brutal series: • Nature is Brutal
Filming a pride of lions as they take down an adult giraffe is a complex - and risky - undertaking. Just what does it take to shoot a documentary in the kingdom of these magnificent animals?
Join multi-award-winning filmmaker Owen Prümm as he reveals life on the other side of the lens. From a bush camp shared with lions in Tanzania’s Ruaha National Park, to remote cameras and very close encounters, he shows us the challenges and joys of capturing this untouched wilderness on film.
🔔 For more amazing stories from nature, make sure to subscribe to our channel: kzfaq.info...
Original Production:
“The Lions Rule” - A Terra Mater Factual Studios production, in co-production with National Geographic Channel and Doclights/NDR Naturfilm, in association with ARTE France/Unité Découverte et Connaissance and Shibumi Films, produced and directed by Owen Prümm, written by Ruth Berry.

This is some of the best video cinematography I have seem with lions. Owen does an amazing job working in his perspective and of the lions in their lives and interactions they have with each other. It is cool seeing lions in their daily lives and how they interact with the environment.

I’m sitting here in San Diego, California on this Friday the 13th of October 2023, enjoying this magnificent video you made. i wonder how a typical week goes by for owen...what time does he wake up? how many hours does he spend filming? where does he get his food and water from? does he bathe? what about electric power and fuel for the jeep? seems like a pretty crazy amount of logistics... on top of the crazy heat and solitude! but wow, the view everyday must be heavenly. even then, that bit about getting demoralised when hit by dry spells in filming... that in itself is a whole world to document. did our forefathers experience such periods too? what did they do to raise their spirits? this man's diary must be a treasure trove!

It's simple. I live in the neighboring county of Kenya. We have loads of wildlife similar to Tz. Lions in the game reserves have habituated themselves to view safari vehicles as part of the environment. After all, tourists get to see wildlife in similar vehicles. But make no mistake, once you put your foot down you are prey. Even the filmmaker should not make the mistake of thinking that just because the lions are used to his presence that they are now best buddies and can now hold hands/paws and sing kumbaya my Lord till dawn. Leave that to the Masai....

Awesome Vid, I have lived in Africa all my life yet traveled the world extensively, there is no more beautiful, stunning, peacefully yet savage at the same time than the African bush, AWAY from the tourist traps. Always remember, out in the bush, “your space” is still their space. I would not want my children at that age to be so freely exposed to the big cats, they will always recognize them as the weakest and go for them should anything occur. Finally, I have observed many lion hunts, you see unbelievable things, they are able to materialize out of seemingly nowhere, their initial charge speed cannot be done justice on film, I have been charged by a lion, one second he he 100m away, the next second he is on top of you, you can’t even believe it’s the same lion, the first time one roars close to you unexpectedly in the pitch dark is something that will be embedded in your memory bank forever, those hairs that don’t stand straight up just fall out, they are such majestic beasts

Very interesting but very sort video. It strange photographer is able to stay very close lion pride and lion not attacking humans. I have seen this in india when lion only attack livestock but not human in jungle of GIR or girnar. Think lion behavioral change was brought on by humans interacting in their habitat such photograher and safari visitors. These are tamed lions. Wonder what these lion were like in years before 1700 or 1800 when very few humans were around them.

Lions are very impressive. It's kinda sad that adult males kill cubs. But some of those cubs will just grow up to do the same

They kill those cubs to ensure that their genes will take over the pride(that they took over/won) Also, doing so puts the females back into heat. And the cycle continues, and gene diversity and survival of the fittest pushes through.

THE GIRAFFE STOMPED THE LIONS LIKE TOYS. IT'S EDITED OUT HERE.😂😂2= LIONS GANG' HUNT AND OFTEN FAIL. THE BEST HUNTERS IN AFRICA ARE LEOPARDS!LIONS TEND TO BE VERY OVERRATED.

Lions have a very low successful rate when it comes to hunting, it's lower than 30%

@@terramater It's at 5 percent Collectively! As a large pride of 34 often all come up empty. Lions have massive streams of prey running by. And still can't hunt at an elite rate. Leopard is way better

Leopards successful hunters, Lions successful eaters. Most food hunted by Leopards are eaten by other predators like Hyenas and Lions while Lions's food is rarely snatched from them unless they are full and abandon the carcass.
