Wildcamping in the Lake District. Arnison crag. No sleep, and a wrecked tent!!!

In this video I head to Arnison crag with ‎@adaminthewild8915 for a wildcamp. We had decent weather on the way up, and were prepared for the rain and 35mph winds forecast. Once at the tip we both chilled out and had a good catch up whilst enjoying the great views. We both got in the tent early as the temperature dropped when the sun dipped. It quickly became obvious we were in for much higher winds than forecast, and they were easily around the 70 mph mark, consequently both of us had very very little sleep. We braved the night, and packed up around 5am which is when Adams tent failed, we made a very quick decent back to the cars, with no issues. Yeah it was pretty rough up there, by far my worst night on a mountain 😢🤣 it was lucky Adams tent failed when packing up to be honest, all good experience for next time 😁 atb Paul 🙏 🏕🏕🏕😁

I have to say im impressed with that opalus tent .it took an absolute beating and only failed after hours of sustained torture .i have the same tent and thatgives me confidence .thants for the vid

I'm not sure that was 70mph? You'd be blown over pretty much incapable of standing let alone packing up. Maybe 50 odd even then standing is very very difficult. How did poke break in packing up or before. Maybe wait it out if it hasn't broken. Inside your tent it looked calmer than outside. Maybe seek shelter vs high exposed spot and enjoy your camp 😊

I'm pretty sure it was 70 mph to be honest, my tent was moving substantially, much more than Rannerdale knotts where we had the wind confirmed at 70 + once we started walking the wind was blowing us off our feet. The pole broke as soon as Adam got out of his tent. All in all it was still a great camp, thanks for watching and commenting, it's massively appreciated, atb Paul 🙏 🏕 🏕🏕😁

Great video! I own both those tents along with a dozen other's 😂 but as much as i love all my Naturehike tent's they certainly have their limitations, I've never ever experienced a single leak from any of my Naturehike tent's so for wet weather they are brilliant but the poles on all of them although suitable for most camps will be the tents 'downfall' in extremely high winds,DAC,Easton & Yunan poles are on another level for strength compared to the likes of what Naturehike & lot's of other tent manufacturers use in my opinion. Thanks for sharing another brilliant adventure.

wow mate that looked horrendous, im glad you had Adam with you as that could of turned into something nasty , by the way he is off his nut 😜 especially asking for a new pole whilst getting battered by the wind , the things you do for pleasure and your you tube friends, glad you both got down safe and I hope you got some shut eye when you got home , looking forward to your next adventure

I must say, I did get emotional at your photos with that music, love that picture of us bro. What a man you are 💙 As for the crazy night we had, wow 😂😂😂 I was laughing so much, but not at the time of course haha! Cracking video. But I'm seeing a pattern emerge with Naturehike tents on fell tops in bad weather. Not knocking them specifically as I have the Cloud Up 2 myself, but there's a reason I also have tents mage by Wild Country/Terra Nova. You must have deep pockets to be able to have that Real Turmat stuff. All the best.

Did you check the mountain weather forecast before you ventured out to camp high on the fells?

We sure did, as mentioned in the video the winds were much higher than forecast, however Adam and I are experienced wildcampers, and have the kit to manage such conditions, it's just unfortunate Adams pole failed. Thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it, atb Paul 🙏 🏕 🏕🏕😁

strange video mate. not really what we would call a wild camp being so close to the car but looked like a good fly camp with a good mate. drone footage was class. sorry to hear bout the broken tent but I'm sure you knew what the risks were. just glad you's are ok and didn't need to assistance from MR. stay well lads

Whilst I respect all.my viewers opinions, I do have to disagree about the flycamping comment, wildcamping in the Lake District is tolerated if you follow a few guidelines, one of which is to camp high up on the tops, above the last fell (350 odd meters up or more) arnison crag is 433 meters, and took us over an hour and a half to summit, the journey back was only so quick as the decent was steep. glad you enjoyed the drone footage 😀 both Adam and I are experienced wildcampers, and are well aware of the risks, and try to pack.the right gear, I think the pole snapping was just unfortunate, and all adds to more experience for next time. @@ACumbrianladoutdoors Fair play Paul. It's controversial going out into those conditions as you know. And I just get a bit twitchy when I see these videos after the Patterdale Mountain Rescue incident in lock down. But it's great to see people getting out and enjoying the fells as well.
