Just a correction. The barbary lion or the Atlas lions although they are no longer in the wild, they are not totally extinct as you mentioned. In fact they are still living in captivity and many of them can be visited in the national zoo of Rabat in Morocco. Moroccan authorities are planning to reintroduce them into their natural habitat in the Atlas mountains.

By seeing this, Simba and Mufasa from lion king would be the peaceful Botswana lion, while scar is one of the more aggressive ones and an adopted brother to mufasa. Mufasa only hunting for food, because circle of life is very peacefull.

yes its crazy we are so damn weak. sometimes I think its not fair for us to develop guns but when you're in the wild you have 0 chance without a gun. Crazy think is they adapt way quicker then us humans to their environment. there are swamp lions who grow bigger then the average lion because they are walking trough the water all day and hunting during daylight only buffalo meals.

With the exception of the Asiatic lion, none of these are a subspecies of lion. There are only two recognized subspecies of extant Panthera Leo and that is the African lion and Asiatic Lion, with the American/Cave lion being different [extinct] species entirely (Panthera atrox of North America and Panthera spelaea of Eurasia). All of the lions listed were P. Leo from different regions in Africa, the Asiatic in Asia or an extinct non lion species.

Also are the asiatic lion and the African lion really two different subspecies? Bearing in mind that in Africa, there's only two recognised subspecies of lions which are: (1) panthera leo leo and (2) panthera melanochaita. Lions in East and Southern Africa fall under panthera leo melanochaita, whilst those in central, west and north Africa, fall under panthera leo leo. Interestingly enough the Asiatic lion also falls under panthera leo leo. The implication being that the North African lion and the asiatic lion, are actually the same lion!

The European cave lion or panthera leo spelaea and the American lion or panthera leo atrox. Are distant relatives of the African lion! Over the years there have been disputes as to whether the American lion was indeed a lion. With some researchers arguing that it was a distant relative of the tiger whilst others have argued that it could have been a distant relative of the jaguar. However as things stand it is considered to be a lion. Albeit the largest lion to have ever lived! And just like the eurasian lion it's thought to have had a tawny coat, similar in colour to the African lion. What isn't known is if the lived in prides or groups as large as the African lion. And if the males grew a mane!

I think the cape lions have not gone extinct. I know a KZfaqr from Africa whose name is Dean Schneider, has a lion pride and has a big grown lion having a mane in that particular shape but I am not sure if it is a cape lion But I respect the lions the way they are, and I love animals so much. They were not the same species. Cave lions from both Eurasia and North America are all long extinct and were MASSIVE compared to any modern big cat species. Any lion or hybrid today resembling a cave lion by mane alone is Panthera Leo (African or Asiatic lions) and was likely hybridized with other big cat species to look that way.

There is Barbarian Lions or type of Barbarian Lions in Africa but they don't have behaviour and personality of real Barbarian Lion. Last Barbarian Lion died in 1941 forgot in what zoo was it.

White Lions are so rare to find in the wild like in some parts of africa, unlike their the large African lions and the Astiac in some countries like India these Lions are where man made by people with signature Blue eyes and White fur with the Males having white manes🐅🦁.

You know in your mind you know what certain things feel like example silk, wool etc and when you think of that certain thing in your mind you can almost feel it. Well for some reason I knew for years what a lion’s mane felt like and never knew why then I got an opportunity to feel a lion’s mane and it felt just as knew/remembered it would.

The American Lion was closer 100% larger or double the size of modern lions. 400lbs for an average lion now would be 800lbs for an American Lion but many averages you'll find around put them over 980lbs with 1100lbs being near the upper limit. It makes sense with you think about it for a minute, look at the kinda prey and competition they had to deal with, even the horses were giants, like the size of draft horses but actually athletic like a zebra.
