Kowanyama, home to 3 aboriginal clans, Kokoberra, Kunjen and Kokomenjena means place of many waters and after spending some quality time here with the locals it was clear why. The waterways, fresh and salt, are spectacular and the wildlife to go with it is abundant. The people of Kowanyama are still very connected to their country and their culture which is beautiful to witness. We were welcomed in like family, given access to some beautiful country and invited into what will be one of, if not the best exhibition of Cape Yorks indigenous artefacts in Australia. We also do some fishing and exploring in this episode up and down the Gulf Of Carpentaria chasing barramundi. We get a couple but its a tough day fishing!
Make sure you stop into Kowanyama on your next trip, give yourself a couple of hours to wander around the cultural centre / museum across from the service station and tell Viv I sent you in there.
Thanks for watching legends!!

Huge appreciation for the living historical segment. Just mind blowing.. I'm poor as fk but is there an avenue for crowdfunding to preserve this? Not locked away, but open to engaging interested people with living memory culture. The unsung efforts of this bloke and the very few like him WILL DISAPPEAR if no effort to preserve our actual, experienced and lived history are taken from beyond our sight. Thank you for sharing that.

I understand your point Rob and completely agree that everyone needs to see these items and hear these stories. Vivs plan is to get it all in front of as many appreciative eyes as possible in a form of tourism centre. I’m hoping to help with that in some way like you mentioned. Glad you enjoyed it Rob

@@WildReaches I wish we knew more about the indigenous culture and were taught this at school instead of the Australian history from a purely European perspective. So much knowledge and respect for the land is being lost with each generation. I spent 20 years in the NT, probably didn’t appreciate the indigenous culture as much as I should have while I was there. You guys are helping maintain and share some of that knowledge through your experiences and connections with the local traditional owners. More content like this would be great, and the fishing of course, we love that too.

Amazing episode. Watch every Friday night with my 5 year old son. He always talks through the episodes about how and when we can go to these place. Last night he didn't say a word during your interview Viv. (Who is a national hero)He just sat there listening. And then this morning I heard him telling his mum all the things he learned. I was amazed at what he took in. Keep it up guys, you're inspiring the future generation more than you probably realize.

I mean National Geographic level work guys! What a beautiful episode! Is there a go fund me for the museum? I feel all his life’s work is a must for saving! History is so important. Thanks for sharing that. Wild Reaches is on a next level trend which is taking time to show the work, people, culture and exploration! No one else has the qualities you and Dane are sharing. Keep doing what you’re doing - I feel a big movie documentary break is coming for wild reaches :) cheers 🥂

Hey Michael, Glad you found the episode mate. KZfaq has just put a big holt on the episode due to (I think) a nipple in an 80 year old photo on the wall... Nearly 8000 views in 24 hours to then 800 in the following 48 hours. oh well, Im trying to rectify it now. Glad you enjoyed it mate, was such a pleasure to film and put together, although it was a tough day fishing. Plenty more of this stuff to come... just with less nipples.

Awesome episode. Museum was great and aerial footage impressive. A gear question, we have a GoPro 9 that is meant to be waterproof. Do I trust that or use a case?? I’m assuming you’d know a fair bit about GoPro’s!!
@WildReaches

I’d trust it mate. I think they’re waterproof to 10 meters without a case but check that. We dunked a 9 a few times through creek crossings with no issue
