To prevent DDOS-ing they should probably host unlisted tournament servers that that don't advertise their IP on the server list. Only competitors and casters should know the server IP-s. This also requires some discipline from people that are streaming the tournament not to leak the IP. It's probably wise to also investigate if steam can leak the IP-s players are playing on to steam friends or publicly. Maybe play on VPN LAN, but that would probably be overkill and could have ping issues.

Price money aside.. Just having people start to play QL is awesome.. We all should keeping the Quake Community Alive in general.

I'm 44 y/o, quakes were my life 20+ years ago. Now i'm too old to play properly, but been watching everything KZfaq has on quake tournaments i missed, and it gives me a lot of hopes. As i understood QC is being sht on by pro scene due to its gameplay details.. HOWEVER, the game looks fcking majestic to watch, and for big tournaments it's everything in my opinion. I myself played q2 and q3 with blank textures back in the day, yes, but now it's off-putting. My hope is that QC can be fixed to be a proper Pro Quake for me to watch the big names clash for big prizes yet again..

i really want to believe in PV. im doing as much as i can to support it with patreon and retweets because having a QL duel league is nice but also i like their vision. its nice to see them overhauling the artstyle of all the maps in the pool and i wish they could do more changing the games aesthetic but i dont think thats possible with QL. either way i hope even if the pros dont return, we get some new amazing talent and it will be something nice to hold us off for the next quake game thats definitely coming very soon and im not just coping i swear

Also most of the legends of old are moved on to live their life, kids-families-businesses etc. This fact coincided with no big tournaments has stopped younger gamers to notice the game, and that killed the scene in general. The new generations are oblivious of it, they are all in MOBAs/CS/Fortnight/Overwhatever. Unless some rich benefactor puts some seriously big prize money with worldwide coverage (with realworls politics kept strictly off) the quake will stay dead forever.

With the staying power of QL and even Q3, I still play Q3E+ often, It would be really smart for devs at QC (syncerror) to add in a couple extra game modes to QC, One, Disabilities, same as in custom matches but add it to the pick up games and the duel modes. Now this is just my opinion but also, a Duel mode with no Mega or Heavy would actually really alter Duels, It seems in Vanilla Q3, QL and QC the duel meta is control those items for unfair advantage over opponent, remove those items and you have a very different game, slightly more balanced and not as dependent on spawn positions or timing of items. I think theres a few things QC could add that are already in Q3 and QL, Impulse 9 for example should have no self damage, and add Railjump and Lightening climb, as those are both commonplace in Q3 mods. Also, Instagib Duels would make alot of sense to add too, as that is one of the absolute most common duel modes in Q3, some of the most 1v1 servers in Q3 have always been instagib, namely dm17, but other maps would work too. And I think in general people are tired of the Champion imbalance overly favouring specific champs for years now. During some of my daily practice matches I've noticed the Athena actually use up to 4 grapples in one encounter, I'm not sure how, but I guess between when she uses the first one, and the third she charges another one up, this is ridiculous as she can damage and often kill with each one, and it moves her in an erratically enough to be difficult to hit, while as a bot she can point blank you numerous times over due to the autoaim. Combine that with her overpowered ledge jump and you have an absolutely overpowered champ provided you want to play Vanilla movement style. I prefer CPMA and am stuck with two champs that have been nerfed into the ground, one has a portable megahealth but has basically no armour stack and feels slower for some reason, the other despite the lower speed cap feels faster but her ability is almost useless as the acid spit is often gone too fast to do anything. I havent tried QL in a long time, when it came out I was still playing Q3E+ and was addicted to the weapon movement physics, still am. I could somewhat live without those, but I found recently trying to play QL I couldnt find CPMA specific servers, I might just be blind but I couldnt really find any that I liked. I was just never a big fan of absolutely Vanilla Q3, once those mod gamemodes popped up like Instagib, that was it, I was hooked. There was no cooler feeling than using the ramp jump pad to rail to instead arc back around and onto the higher platform in dm17, something that QC should have allowed but I guess the distance to rail and therefore the amount of height the jump pad gave is different so you can only arc back to where you started, although I have done it with a rocket plus jump pad in Unholy Trinity game mode, but its really hard to jump pad rocket jump for some reason, way harder than Q3. Anyways, if QL had more of the stuff from Q3 mods I'd be more into jumping over to QL again, but I'm hoping QC gets more updates too, maybe not the ones I've suggested but something to make it great again.

I don't hate new games but all i wanted from "new" quake is to have new graphics, be supported by devs on much bigger scale than is today ( not like QC ), and keeping the core gamplay modernized NOT f'ing chaseing other trends like characters and abillities, think about CS did it went that road ? - NO and it is as big as it will ever be maiking it a ever green game. To be honest i belive that this move ( abi in qc ) divides our population onto QL/Q3A purists that play an outdated game that pushes away new players and people that would rather play in a bigger player pool ( like me ). The truth is that QC devs putted a nail into its own coffin by this desin and now they claim that the game doesn't need more freequent updates - they won't do more work for that big of the player population - it's a bearly alive game played mostly by the veterans not new players. Instead of going big and tring to fight for players of all Quake games and dare i say it UT and all fast paced arena shooter player population they made a product that divided us even more.

Whole thing seems a bit sus. What is there to hide? Just tell everyone the details. Who opens up a patreon asking for money when they haven't even done anything? They made a couple maps (which honestly are brutal.) They are just re-skins... and like 95% of players prefer the original maps, so.... there's that. Their exhibition tournament DID end up getting DDOS'd for the entire day. Like I'm not sure why they are asking for money. So far all they've done is made a bunch of obscure tweets and hyped up participants who aren't even good players and had no chance to win acting like they were big entries. "SECURED." I hate to be negative but to me it feels like a bunch of dudes trying to monetize a dead game. What Quake needs is people to stop caring about the glitz and glamour and instead focus on the players. You want good competitions? Stop paying casters and map makers and focusing on production details and focus on having an actual good product first. You will do that by focusing on the players. Nobody cares about project velocity. They care about the game, and the players. Focus on them. Put your resources into them.
