Will my first car, an EBII Ford Fairmont, start and drive after years of neglect? Or pay me back by burning us both to the ground?

Can't go wrong with an EB II! I daily drive an EB II GLi wagon in LeMans Red, 6 seater column auto. You really don't see many of them around anymore, great cars.

Definitely awesome cars. The belt set up is shit compared to the later serpentine belts though. I'm hoping to get an eb2 for my next daily - they're so hard to find in good nick.

Love your EB. I'd happily keep it the way it is and just freshen up what is required... It was great to see the old girl start and run so easily. I had an EA S pack wagon with a 5 spd manual and totally loved the car. Ended up replacing it with a VYSS wagon (also manual) but still really miss the old EA

You got me thinking about my old 1989 EA Falcon I had in the mid 90’s. It was a metallic green colour and had good power. That model had an issue with the rocker cover gasket leaking and the kick down cable for the auto would get caught on its tube if you booted it too hard. I replaced it with an updated cable which fixed the problem. But other than that it was a terrific car.

Very impressed with how much driving you got in a car that sat for so long! I'm very impressed by how much private road you have to test drive an un-registered car too. We all dream of having a private road that long. Looking forward to seeing these cars progress. Well done Browney!

You are dead right, the visibility out of an EA-ED is superb. They are definitely a much lighter car than BAs. From memory, approx 400kg lighter.

I wrecked my first car -93 eb2 sxr6. Literally wrecked it - spun it into a tree at 100kmh+. Seems I will never stop regretting that.

Thanks mate, as you may be able to tell it's one I'm keen to get to as well. Have got a real kick out of being around these things again at the moment - being cars though I'm sure it's a matter of time until that wears off though! I was somewhat lucky that these were worth next to nothing when it was retired, so there wasn't much point flogging it off and I had the room to leave it sit. Just as well, certainly not crazy prices for these yet but they are well on the way up it seems. Thanks as always mate 👍

Seems they're much more loved than I had thought, bad head gaskets and all! I know, I'm a bit slower (and probably lazier) on these things than I should be... your channel and great videos like it are probably part of the reason for that! Cheers mate 👍

Love your humour. Pitty you can’t punch out the vids more often. I can only imagine what it must be like to get the work/life/KZfaq balance right. Hopefully down the track with more subscribers we might see more vids more often cause they are great to watch. The D is a great name for this car. I think it’ll be fine.

Thanks mate, that's very kind. I'd love to be able to put more time towards the channel as well but you're right it's about balance, and these videos take a lot longer to make than I ever expected! Maybe one day more time can go to it, people like yourself are definitely a big help with that so cheers. Subbed :) I have a ED Fairmont that's now pretty much 95% XR spec. I've had the car 16 years, before that it was in a paddock for years. Currently it's getting another engine rebuild :) Doing that myself. Nice cars!!!

Looking forward to this build, the E series doesn't get enough love, I had a EF xr6 for my first car that I wish I still had now, also a 5ltr el Fairmont Ghia, AU SR and a EB S with a 5 speed that I still have now with a rough body that I trusted the wrong person with an AU conversion because I didn't have the time to do it myself and the original engine was unhealthy but I hope to use the 5 speed one day soon in another E series, looking forward to the SOHC content mate

I still think quite regularly that I should jump on an EL Fairmont Ghia if one pops up, can't imagine getting a decent nick 5ltr for a reasonable price now but hey are beautiful cars. Stoked I found your channel, Im over here in little old NZ. I had a BA fairmont last year and really enjoyed watching your vids. Then i wanted something a little more adventurous so swapped for a 92 eb wagon which i love! Just happend to be looking on youtube this morn and saw your new project. Funny you should mention visibility! I went from a 4 speed manual XE to a 4 speed auto ED and during the first month I kept reversing into things because the XE felt like a convertible compared with the ED! I decided not to fix the rear end until I’d gone 12 months without hitting anything. Never did get around to it... Great car though and now 20 years later I wish I’d kept them both, but I was utterly idiotic in those days..... sigh! 🙂 Thanks for stirring the old memory box!! 👍

Damn, remind me not to park any where near where you could be reversing! 🤣 But completely get you, you don't notice just how much of a difference it makes until you change it up again. Love to give an XE a go one day but they are steadily moving out of my price range now. And weren't we all idiots at one stage... I'm not even sure I'm done now! Thanks for sharing mate 👍

Just scored an ed Monty, one of the most neglected cars I've seen, dead brown snake under passenger seat! Took me a week and around 400 in New parts to get it moving and healthy. Really want this thing on the road!

G'day Browney thx for sharing your projects, they've given me quite a few ideas for my Fg which i bought last year at a fairly cheap price just prior to covid kicking in. Watched all your vids and really enjoy your down to earth style, keep up the good work mate. like a lot people have suggested i too thought of the name Ed or Ediie, but being a traditionalist i thought of Delilah, whatever name you give it i am looking forward to seeing more, cheers!

Delilah is a great name but may be a bit 'pretty' for this project, not sure it could ever live up to that! As much as I love the EA-ED shape. Hope you enjoy what we have coming up mate 👍

Hey mate. Glad I found your chanel. I love watching your vids. In 2015 after a marriage split, I bought myself a Sept '04 BA XR6 in the Vibe colour. She is my baby. Fast forward to present day, and my now financèe and myself acquired a Nov '04 BA XR8 also in the Vibe. I must admit the two of them side by side look beautiful lol. Anyway, just want you to know I will be an avid watcher of you chanel from here on, and if you have any tips where might be a good place to get bits and pieces from for either of them I would be grateful. I have just literally yesterday had the roof lining in the 8 replaced and soon it will have a BF GT body kit on her. Keep up the good work bro.

I bought my first car way back in 1990 and am lucky enough to still have it today, and I don't regret it one bit. Like you, there's a fair bit of nostalgia involved, but I really love taking it out for a drive on weekends. Good luck with your ED, they are a great car to drive, and so much better with a manual.

@@BrowneysGarage It's an '81 XD Falcon with a 351. Was my daily for a long time but is now my week ender. I always look forward to take it out for a spin. My brother had an ED for a while with a I6 and T5. Not sure if the engine had some work done, but it used to crack along. Was awesome to drive. Always had a soft spot for EA/B/D's. Cleanest looking modern day Falcon (post X series).

hey dude, just found your channel today while looking for some BA repair videos, pretty much watched your whole BA performance series, well done man. i been off the road over 10 years, just started driving again and picked up a nice clean BA 2004 falcon, just going on 100,000km. considering throwing on a few of the mods you did just to make her a little more fun to drive. pretty sure i am due to do the rear bushes as my next bit of work so that should be fun. Awesome you have your old ED, my first car was a 79 XD ghia 302 cleaveland. sadly sold it and my last car before the BA was a ZD fairlane. looking forward to your upcoming vids, if you ever end up over west, hit me up, will shout you a beer.

Rear bushes aren't a lot of fun, I'll be honest, but it's not super technical or anything at least. My first was a red ED XR6... manual... i have it some clean 5 spoke 18s.... i ended up swapping it for a 5 speed XE that had a 5.7 v8 dropped in it (it had a lpg tank in the boot to match the emissions.. cause the XEs never had a factory 8... but i never drove it on gas) I wish i still had both.

Well this should be exciting I'm really looking forward to seeing what you can do with the ED Fairmont. I think that it has a lot of potential to be something rather epic. Just such a shame though that Ford didn't do more with all their E series Falcons - could really have made them into the hot sedans of the 1990s if they wanted to. You should definitely do a turbo conversation on the Fairmont as well as the BA Falcon.

Eddie? EB Fairmont converted to manual would be a cool, cheap daily driver. Have a soft spot for EB's, a mate of mine had one just after getting his license. The manual made it fun to drive and thing smoked the tyres pretty good. It was 20 years ago though and things have moved on. Not fast by todays standard but back then it was harder to go faster for less $. Thrashed the crap out of that car and it loved it. The xr6 front indicators look so much better than the crap amber stock ones

The Eddie's are certainly winning right now. You're right it was a pretty good thing back then, at least I thought so. Sure it wasn't even particularly quick by standards back then but was a LOT closer to it than these days, regardless there's something about beating these cars that is a heap of fun! Say it's fairly similar over here but that ratio seems to have been slowly improving as the autos get converted or wrecked. Really changes these cars though. Thanks for watching mate.

I had an ED Fairmont back in the day and it was so easy to drive & yes they had great visibility (& easier ingress + egress) Sure Im 30 years older now but my BF2 XR8 is a pig to get in and out of in comparison. Some of that could be all that beer I've drunk in thirty odd years in between but that stupid sweeping A pillar + high seating position in the BA/BF doesn't help.

Have gone back and forth on this decision but there's just too much going against the old shell and I'm not sure it'll change the feeling of the new one enough to justify it, especially with all the works that's to come to make it my own. I honestly think if I did try persevere with the EB shell I could end up resenting it, the project could drag out and never get done. Time will tell if it's the right call though, and thanks for watching.

The bloody coolant level sensor! Been through several in my ED XR6, working old ones are hard to find now and "new" ones from ebay are nearly $200

I plan on doing a engine swap with a ba xr6 turbo shell and put a non turbo bf engine in it, do you know if its a clean swap or would i run in to some problems?

Anything can be done clean. It can of course be done but I don’t know if I’d call any engine swap easy. Best to search around and do a HEAP of research before pulling the trigger. Good luck mate 👍

@khaosAU Sorry I only half read your question, thought you were talking about a Barra into E-series swap because of the video you commented on. You’re right, I’d say any differences would be pretty minimal. I know there’s different cam control from early BA to later but not sure if wiring changes for that.

Great cars mate, depends what you’re expecting from it being a car that’s getting older but sure there’s still a lot of life left in them. Plus it seems all of these E series Falcon are starting to head up in price (unless it’s only the COVID tax) so may be a good time to get in while there’s still deals out there.

I love my Ef falcon brought her in January 2008, been in 2 big crashes but was rebuilt after each one. I plan to keep it until I get too old to drive her.
