Curing type 1 diabetes isn't as simple as we'd like it to be! Sernova Corporation is working on a functional cure with a cell pouch containing insulin-producing cells from organ donors.
Learn how to prevent lows during exercise 👉 amzn.to/3RQd1NK
Eventually, this pouch will contain manufactured insulin-producing cells from Evotech - starting potentially in 2025. The pouch protects the cells from the immune system of a person with type 1 diabetes. So far, 5 out of the 6 participants in the first phase of the trial are insulin independent - this means they are no longer taking daily injections of insulin to achieve normal blood sugar levels!

Man I hope it's soon. I've been type 1 for 22 years now and at the age of 45 I am so ready to rid myself of this disease. It has drastically changed my life for the worse in terms of I just don't do the things I want to do, or can't really. Not without the constant worry that I may have put myself in jeopardy of having a low or high blood sugar. Example, I tried scuba diving one summer about 2 years ago and really liked it. But being underwater for extended periods of time and not knowing what my numbers are gave me a bit of PTSD since the temperature of the water and how much I'm exerting to swim all play a part in having a low blood sugar under water. So I basically say it's not worth the risk of being wrong and dying so I just avoid it. Traveling scares me... working out scares me... being in a remote area scares me, basically type 1 diabetes has caused me to become an introvert who would rather stay at home where I know I'm safe than be out an about living life. Come on cure, I need you. :)

Was thought for 10 years i on diabetes type 2 (trying hard to keep my BS low with low carb regime , fasting , and so on ) , only to find 4 month ago , in fact i have diabetes type 1,5 (LADA) and i am not insulin resist at all (fact are my pancreas do only 25% insulin from 100%). My BS was high all the time , was just because i have not the right necessary insulin amount need ,it for on day. Now...after i was try 2 weeks of treatment with Jardiance(1 month ago) , i finally understood the only solution is to go with Injection daily insulin (Tresiba one injection at day above 11 or 13/u ). Last 2 weeks my bs was under 100 mg/dl (in conditions in which now i can eat some chocolate , ice cream , some cake in reasonable amounts). Do not give up ! Always will be some solution at the end of the tunnel ... even when train come from that tunnel !👌

I read the related article, and it didn't say that the recipient of the cell pouch will take immunosuppression drugs for only three weeks. Instead, it mentions that "The Sernova Cell Pouch is implanted against the abdominal musculature. A minimum of three weeks after Cell Pouch implantation, immunosuppression is initiated and optimized for another 3 weeks." It doesn't specify when the drugs will be eliminated or if they may never be eliminated.

Do you know if anyone has looked into the benefits of fasting on a newly diagnosed type one diabetic?
@DiabetesNerd
@DiabetesNerd 3 ай бұрын
Hi there, fasting will not change the immune system's attack on your pancreas. Before daily injections of insulin were available, you'll find in history that "Starvation diets" were used to treat type 1 diabetes and try to prolong children's lives. The result was simply that they were starving while also dying from T1D.

@DiabetesNerd

Hi there, I'm afraid she's definitely past the typical trial window for the research on delaying newly diagnosed T1D. Sounds like her honeymoon phase is probably winding down? Remember, the most important thing is that she learns that T1D doesn't stop her from living a full life! I know it's scary and challenging every single day, but the more you can teach her to face this with resilience and a positive outlook (life is challenging for EVERYONE), the more she will thrive. She can do this.

How can the pancrease stop working and then start then stop? This honeymoon phase makes no sense. I believe in reasoning things out. The insulin is what stops the pancrease from working over time. It messes the feedback mechanism system. Pure BS

I have been type 1 for 37 years. I looked into Vertex and I was accepted but they said you would get the implants and you need to be on the anti rejection drugs for the entire study and then they remove the implants even if they are working. So that was the killer for me. It made it not worth doing. If this new study only requires 3 weeks of drugs and if I can keep the implants as long as they are working, then I would do it. Hi there! There might be clinical trials she can participate in -- you'd want to ask her doctor -- but many might require kids to be 7 or older, or 12 and older. DIamyd, for example, is looking for people 12 to 25 diagnosed in the last 6 months. You might also look for trials using Tepluzimab -- visit CLinicalTrials.gov to search and see what she qualifies for. Until then, yes, daily insulin therapy is her future! But please know your daughter's future is BRIGHT! I know it's overwhelming and scary. Learning how to manage insulin takes time.

Hello my 7-year-old diabetic daughter since 2023 I follow all the trials I believe in it 7/10 years it matters that we get to the end, Sernova seems to me was supposed to start the Human Trials with evotec cells in 2024 but the new manager Cynthia Pussinen announced the postponement to the second half of 2025, Vertex with vx 264 is also in the clinic in Italy where we live. If the results are good, it may be that the time is shortened
