I'm so proud of the Ford! I now can't wait for some of the audience to be yelling at you for "You're gifting Mike junk like you gifted to Santa! What a "friend" are you!". Personally, I think that the 740i would be a pretty good gift - it's sorta luxurious and it doesn't have any rust AFAIK.

I knew the Probe would make it home. As far as the F 350 goes, I would check the connection to the coil to make sure the coil is getting power because if you changed the coil itself and the cylinder is still dead, chances are it's the wire/connector. Had the same problem with my Triton V-10. I think Mike should get the F-150. LOL

The V10 is close to the end of its lifespan. The 351 still can go quite a bit more miles yet.

These cars weren't really Fords, they were Mazdas. Even though these were marketed as 'sporty' cars, most of them were equipped with auto trans. The Mazda automatic from this era was known to be a poor design. The auto trans would grenade around the 100K mark, at which time the repair cost would have been at or over the FMV of the cars, so the owners would throw in the towel send them off to the scrap yard.

@@MrSloika There were tons of 5 speeds made, Probe/MX-6, even the 626 sedan with the V6 it was pretty easy to find an mtx. I'm always amazed to see an atx that's still around at this point. I found each one of my mtx's easily 3 so far. The real problem is owners of mtxs weren't selling them. My first was wrecked in 01. The other 2 I still have. It would be harder to find a C4 Corvette with an mtx.

@@MrSloika people and there dumbass comments i swear the trans is mazda branded thats its just like the m50d 5 speed manual in the ranger but that dont make them a mazda infact all the mazda variants of the ranger(the b series) were designed by ford the entire chassis of this car and the engine was designed and built by ford its a ford also ford owned mazda so it was branded mazda but its built and designed by ford thats like calling the 7.3 an international but yet international only produced the long longblock ford did everything else same thing on the 6.0 and 6.4 the 7.3idi and 6.9 idi are international engines with ford accessories the 7.3idit 7.3ps 6.0ps and 6.4ps are ford/international engines thats why the res 2 engines of each the international variant and ford variant 7.3idit/dt444 7.3ps/dt444e 6.0ps/dt466e 6.4/maxiforce11 mazda was just a branch of ford please do research instead of just saying its a mazda

@@TylerDuysen The transmission in this car is the 'Ford' F-4EAT (AKA Mazda GF4A-EL). The F-4EAT was a 4-speed, electronically controlled automatic transmission developed by Mazda and JATCO starting in 1990. JATCO = Japan Automatic Transmission Company. It's a Japanese designed transmission. Clear now? In conclusion, go fuck yourself.

The real reason you don't see them is cash for clunkers. They weren't particularly sought after cars, so ppl just traded them in & they got scrapped. Shame, they were pretty fun to drive with the manual, good on gas, & IMO good looking. The one in this vid would have been sex on wheels when it was new.

I love the probe!!! I owned a 1990 and a 1993 GT and my wife had a 1994 SE, but they were all 5 speed manual transmissions. The probe was known to have problems with the automatic transmissions. My favorite was my 1990, it was extremely dependable.

I had a 1989 LX. It went 249K and I would have kept repairing the car except I live in the Northeast and the tin worm was eating it away.

I liked the probe as well, I started with a 1994 SE, but upgraded to a 1993 GT when the opportunity came up. Mine were also all 5 speed and were overall pretty solid cars. That was a great time for Ford in my opinion, I also owned several first gen SHOs from around that era…also all manual trans.

Years ago I bought a 1st gen Probe with 75K miles for $1,500. The trans light was flashing and the speedo was no-function. The owner was told by a a local shop that that car needed a trans R&R which would have been near the book value of the car. I took it home and put it in diag mode...bad speed sensor, $45 dollars from the dealer.

That F150 shifter problem is common and very simple to fix. Go under the column and you'll see 2 torx bolts that hold the shifter mechanism and constantly loosen up. Take one out, loctite and tighten it then do the same to the other and you'll be good as gold. That is...... if one of the bolts isn't missing altogether.

The plastic bushings on the shift tube wear out too. I had one where I had to tighten the torx bolts, and one where I needed new bushings just last week. Learning such things is the cost of driving cars that can be picked up for $800 or less.

I've been waiting for the Ford Probe series, couldn't help but admire the thumbnail! The Probe deserves to have at least a wash & a set of decent tires. I never thought that it would make it all the way. I'm lovin' these 700 mile adventures with MWM and I am shocked & excited to hear that there may/may not be more cars awaiting you from CoPart. Although MWM bonded with the F350, I think he would be better off with the F150 due to ease of maintenance & no complaints from his neighbors haha.

That probe is a trooper. My dads ex wife had a Probe SE back in the day - similar to this but red and had the rear wiper. Slow as heck but drove nice and smooth. Buddy of mine also had a Probe GT with the v6 and 5speed. Man was that thing smooth. Something that will make these trips a lot easier - get urself a pair of walkie talkies. Much easier and quicker to communicate between two vehicles than a cell phone. @Monkey Wrench Mike - take the F150 it would fit your needs the best. Could be the L.I. Iced tea talking but I kinda want that 740i despite it being rougher than a 60 grit sand paper condom and will likely end in my divorce.

BTW, the Probe actually sold in fairly large numbers. Total combined production for the two generations was around 700,000 units. Not bad for a car 'nobody wanted'. What killed off all the sporty front drive coupes was the motoring public's fascination with all things SUV, which continues unabated to this day.

I'm of the opinion that that F-150 is a truck for you I had a 92 f150 that only had the 5.0 in it but it was a great truck while I had it that 5/8 is a strong motor so get that steering column changed out change the key cylinder whatever you need to do to make it work and you got a good ride right there Mike Also I'm already a subscriber to both channels

I had a Ranger that you had to shift it like you said the F150 did. It turned out to be a sensor in the rear diff. I can't remember what it was called but it fixed the issue. I'm not sure if that will be the same for you.

Not yet done watching the video, but I do know that the flashing overdrive light was similar to the "Hold" light in my 1993 Mazda 626. If that thing flashes, typically your transmission is toast.
