it's a choice and it's committing to virtue! People who expect it to be a natural thing where they just feel right... or people like in this video, who try too hard to make everything perfect... They're just abandoning the really simple concept of love: choosing to be with someone, choosing to be virtuous for that person!

Ben and Sid (friends of mine) did a lot of study of NVC and Compassionate Communication. The stretched their vocabulary early on in their relationship... Sid said she had "needs" and "feelings" lists printed out and posted around the house. They worked and work very hard at maintaining their connection. I am so excited to see how their little one evolves with these kind of communication skills... and yes... they are AMAZING!

I want to speak the way they do. It's been a life long struggle of mine, not being able to express myself vocally. I don't know if it's low vocabulary, or if there's a deeper reason. But my goodness if I could get advice from them about how to speak in a way that so perfectly gets their message across, i'd be so freaking grateful!

+MusicsHerLife sometimes it's about being uncomfortable with saying what you want to say that makes you unable to find the right words. but mostly, it's practice. people who've been to psychotherapy are often more comfortable with expressing their inner thoughts and reflecting on themselves, as they've learnt to do it on a regular basis. You can always ask yourself "how do i feel and why?" and then start over. an example could be: how do i feel? "I'm exhausted." why? "because i had an argument with a friend." how do i feel about that? "i feel like i didn't express myself correctly." why? "because i was afraid of hurting her/him" how do i feel about that? "hurting people makes me afraid of being rejected" why? ""because... " and so on. it really is a matter of practice, i believe.

Sorry, seems my gut reaction is opposite to so many here, I hear so much overcompensation in this couple's dialogue regarding depth of feeling, that I worry about them. There's a lack of ease here, lots of couples' therapy-speak, and too much grimacing along with slow knowing head nods on her part.

It seems they have studied NVC (Non-violent communication) and are applying it in practice. You can check out some resources online. It is not fake, but it is actually quite difficult to apply and needs a lot of practice and good will on both sides.

@@AlValentini they only sound fake to some people because so many aren't able to be vulnerable and real in a relationship. The norm is to not be completely open and honest and transparent in a relationship and growing apart instead of together... It's sad

i love watching this couple, they appear to understand each other. They stare into each others eyes and are completely absorbed in what the other is saying. @ctguitarguy - and vice versa. There has never been a time in history where the genders praised each other. It's very rare.
@derekg5563
@derekg5563 4 жыл бұрын
@@p.r.9982 Ok, this is just ridiculous. So chivalry is very rare and ahistorical? For fuck's sake, a key part of what people use to define a man is how he makes women feel special. "Is he being a good ally?" I don't know what made you feel like you were some kind of historian, but you might want to notice chivalry if you didn't the first million times it happened in front of you. Instead of just nodding along in a love story or romantic movie, pay attention to when these things happen. The guy appeases the woman, and the woman decides if he did so well enough, or else looks for a different guy until she finds one that does. These kinds of things are generally the building blocks for love stories or romantic movies. Sure, relationships can be atypical and outside the normal framework regarding gender interactions, but those cases tend to stand out from the rest. I think people have a good feel for the normal framework, it's just not always stated into actual words very well and is something people feel instinctively.
@p.r.9982
@p.r.9982 4 жыл бұрын
@@derekg5563 Chivalry doesn't mean praising women. In the vast majority of cases it's a bait to get the girl, therefore temporary. Most couple don't treat each other well for 30 years. If women were praised historically how do you explain this gender's historical and global oppression? Although of course things got better in certain parts of the world, and some men do deserve credit for helping change things, for the most part the "praise" is non-existent. Historically women are more prone to put men on a pedestal than the other way around - that doesn't mean verbally praising men either, it can be manifested as a sense of helplessness without men, envy, inferiority complex, obsession with their attention and validation etc. Have a good day.

As soon as Sidra started talking about mortality and the deaths of those around her, I couldn't help but to break down in tears. I have been struggling with this thought every single day, and it's an emotional roller coaster that leads to anxiety and whatnot. It's almost comforting in a way hearing someone else feel and understand my thoughts as well even if it can be such a monster in the back of your head. These two are such a beautiful couple and I wish them so much happiness and comfort in their lives.

+Joanna Q I feel the same way. The deep realization of death hit me over 7 years ago and has haunted me ever since. It's like this looming feeling that hangs over me each time I decide to love and care for another person. The feeling got even stronger after my dad passed away suddenly. The only thing that ever soothed me was staying in the present moment and trying to remember death is not the end. It's just an evolution of life.

+Joanna Q I struggled with it as a child. the earliest i can remember having this fear is around the age of 10. i was so afraid of my parents or siblings dying...of me dying, i don't know why i had this fear, no one I ever knew died. it kept me up at night and found its way into my dreams. every night, when i said good night to my parents and siblings, i would say, "good night, love you, see you tomorrow". it was my way of reassuring myself that they would be there in the morning. to this day, my family recites those words when we say good night. none of them know why. i've never talked to anyone about it. it doesn't bother me like it used to, but those moments when you realize you're not going to have your loved ones forever...that sinking feeling and sense of loss even though it hasn't happened...it makes me want to cherish every moment i have with them

silencebeckons Yeah I'm not sure if the fear will ever go away from me. I mean, I do think besides the obvious downfalls, I do think there are some benefits. It makes me somewhat fearless in life because I'm so aware of death's looming presence. And I think it helps me appreciate the present moment. But I've never found a way of diminishing the fear.

"It just feels like there will never be enough time with you." I never, ever thought I'd love someone so deeply that I could possibly relate to those words. But I know exactly how she feels. It hurts how fast it all goes by. I try to appreciate every single second with my other half because one day he will be gone. And the fact that there is nothing at all I can do about it haunts me constantly. I too always think of him dying. My mom thinks I'm psychotic but I'm so happy to know that I'm not the only one capable of loving someone so much that you feel real, horrible fear of losing them. This video just touched me so much.

+Jill Blue i think having their own TV show will only ruin them with all the publicity stunts they have to pull just to get the ratings up, etc... just my opinion tho .. I love watching them in such a short period of time but still i'm able to experience reality .. i mean, just how she looks at him and vice versa .. the best definition of love there is. i'm hoping to see more of them here . hoping to know love a little bit more thru them .. :)

I think this is one of the best things on the internet. The series is incredible - the emotional honesty is so powerful. Sidra and Ben were my favourite, what an awesome surprise to see this update. Sidra's view on relationships being a choice you make everyday is exactly how I feel. It's why I will keep choosing my partner but I don't want to get married. The insights regarding parenting are so valuable as we're not far off from that place either. I hope we get yearly updates!!!!

I have to say I'm very jealous... of their daughter! She has two loving, highly intelligent, highly functional parents who will not only raise her right, but will prepare her to avoid the most common relationship pitfalls people fall into as a result of their dysfunctional parents and upbringing. She'll have the luxury of taking the healthy love she has for herself for granted and go out into the world accepting only people in her life who are good and kind to her. Her life choices won't be based on fear, but what she wants. And she will likely be as highly intelligent and physically beautiful as her parents. The world will be her oyster! :D

One thing I really, really love about this video is their growth. You can tell from the change in this one compared to the last one they did that they've been through tough crap. The last one they were so joyous and here I feel there is a grown calm in their love. In the last one they would say thank you when one said beautiful words to the other, or smile more, but here they just look at each other more deeply, and appreciate each other more with their powerful words. I could have only imagined this deep connection in my head, but it seems to be shown here when they show they don't need words to thank each other, to see how beautiful the other person is, and its amazing. Seeing so many different couples with these questions is just so deep, and so important. Thank you for these. I hope to see more and more diversity in the couples as time goes on, but thank you so much for these now.

These people are couple goals. They express themselves so beautifully and without fear. You can see the love and trust they have for each other and it's a gift to witness. I literally cried when Sidra was talking about not having enough time, not being able to hold your baby like you used to. How time slips through your fingers just like water and to be present as often as you can. How you begin to view the world as a literal mortal enemy - not only for yourself, but the ones you love. My oldest son turned 5 yesterday. My youngest turns 4 next month, and I cant believe how quickly time is escaping us. There is truly never enough time when you become a parent.

i had a relationship like this once, or atleast in my eyes and hers too, we dis. it was my first relationship, being only 13 and her 12. sure we started out as friends first and didnt know what love was, we both grew into something quite beautiful. over the years, our bond grew stronger and stronger, we would see eachother all day everyday, text one another every second we had etc. we were bestfriends and lovers until we were both 19. honestly im sometimes surprised that we lasted so long bc well we met at the most random time and place. that relationship i had with her though was the most amazing and beautiful thing ive ever experienced. turning 21 in two months, i sometimes think that ill never feel the same way about someone as i did with her but what do i know? only 2 things for sure, one is that love is a beautiful yet dangerous thing. and two, youll never forget your first love. 5 years is a long time, yea i know i was young but i truly think it was real love. this december on the 19th, it makes it 2 years that she broke up with me. i still remember the date because it was the worst day of my life. all in all, ill never forget that amazing time that i got to experience and ill cherish those memories forever, even if i start to forget.

I can definitely relate to the not enough time feeling and the fear of your husband and child dying it's literally such a great fear because once you feel such a deep love that you only feel for your soul mate and child you don't know how you could ever live without it or how you ever did. I don't think love is even the proper word I think that word, in fact, I don't think there is a word that exists to describe that feeling. It's love mixed with passion, joy, hope, happiness, a sense of wholeness/completion. Hugh no words to describe it! If I can feel this overwhelming love for two people I just imagine what it feels like for God to love his children/wife (am Yisrael) so powerful that you can see past their flaws, yearning to dwell in oneness always. Pardon my ramble just.. so heart touching, this video.

The Skin Deep Yes, I think it's a more common fear for new mother's but not one that ever really goes away. Love the videos! This can be very therapeutic for couples who need help but don't know where to go or where to start. I would recommend these sort of at home activities first for couples who are thinking about marriage/couples counseling.
