Will These Mopping Pads FIX the Ecovacs X1 OMNI's Poor Mopping Performance? Owners Should Watch!

When I reviewed the Ecovacs X1 OMNI I was pretty disappointed in the lackluster mopping performance when compared to other robots like the Roborock S7 MaxV and even the little brother the Ecovacs T10 Plus.
In this video I am going to attempt to test a theory that the mopping issues are due to the OEM pads not being able to absorb water and see if the recommended aftermarket pads allow it to perform better in my endurance mopping test.

Excellent review of the aftermarket pants but having said that why not treat dried on stains with a surfactant first or squirt some surfactant in the water chamber and have that water with surfactant clean the stains? It's possible that in the manufacturing process that the OEM pads has with most cloth that is produced at a factory would need a pretreatment or pre wash first to remove the water repellent material that they use in the manufacturing process. Ashley giving the stains a squirt of any mild eco-friendly soap and let it sit for 4 to 5 minutes first should make a huge difference for any of these robots that are using rotating pads. A surfactant is used in agriculture to make water wetter and it will not bead but stick to the surface of plants. It only takes a few drops of a surfactant placed in water or soap and water to make it penetrate stains to be removed safely. I'd like to see the results of all the OEM and the aftermarket pads using the above methods which I believe would take 90 to 99% of the stains off of that tile floor.

Interesting information. I only do my mopping tests with room temperature water. This way I remove any other variables so people can compare mopping results between the different robots equally without having to precisely control water to cleaning solution ratios. I have tested with and without cleaner added to the tanks and it is hard to tell if it makes a ton of difference. I do not pretreat because part of removing the dried on stains requires adequate water flow on the pads to completely remove the stains. You can see how much more is always removed on the second pass in the mopping tests. This is also why I do 2 passes as the first pass is a struggle for the majority of robots. I appreciate your support and I will look into using surfactants. I thank you for that bit of info.

hello, great video thank you! I wanted to ask you, I do not receive notifications on my mobile about the status of ecovacs, before when I had irobot I received a notification when the robot finished cleaning or when it got stuck, with ecovacs it is not possible?

hi Jamie do you think you will also test with the t20 mops? on the internet I read that washing with the new t20 mops is much better, honestly I'm thinking of returning my X1 Omni and buying the t20, what do you think? Thanks in advance

I should hopefully have the T20 soon and I do plan to review it. Until then it is hard to say what I would recommend. I am a huge fan of lifting moping pads.

, I was thinking of returning my X1 also but the T20 has no camera, thats the only downside I see so far. I actually use that feature to check on pets and do patrols when I am away from home.

I just got an Omni X1 and it came with a new pad design that looks almost identical to the Dreamtech's L10s pads, I guess they are watching your vids lol

@@jamie.andrews the newer pad design works great, but I ordered a set of replacement pads from Ecovacs and they sent me the old pad design. So, I went and ordered the Dreamtech L10 pads and their pads now look exactly like the old Ecovac Omni design hahaha I cant win.

You may have solved an issue I've had since I bought this X1. The X1 leaves puddles of water on occasion. I notice it most when it makes a turn. After watching your video I'm thinking the water is being slung off the pad onto the floor because it didn't soak in fast enough. My setting are all standard normal settings so not an over abundance of water. I'm ordering the non oem pads and see if that resolves my issue

I just got the pads from Dreametech and the first inspection didn't give me a lot of hope for them, they are a lot thinner than the ones from Ecovacs, that would put them father front be floor so less pressure during mopping. I'll test them but other than water absorption I don't think they will do a better job. Also the ones I got are grey, not white.

@Ellery FG The issue is not that they can not touch the floor it is all about water absorbing into the pad. I put the Dreame pads through my endurance mopping test on the X1 and they did great. No issues with them touching the floor.

@Ellery FG In all of my tests I only use room temperature water to keep things even and fair. Otherwise Ecovacs now has their own cleaner or you could use Bona.

The issue is the plate. The plates are not putting as much pressure as they should. Ecovacs is aware of it and may send you new plates

I suspect that could help and would test if they sent me some. The L10s Ultra does not have this issue so that makes sense. Thanks for the info!

I messaged Ecovacs customer support. I recently purchased a X1 Turbo (arriving today actually) and asked if they are including the upgraded pressure plates. They said that they weren't replacing the pads and that the original issue was localized to a special batch in which the plates were compressed. I will report in once I get this in for a test.

Tried it out tonight. I prewashed the mopping pads to loosen them as well. Vacuum and navigation very good ( I come from using robot j7 and m6). What I don't like. One it makes a clunking sound while moving. The mopping is not effective. I can see many areas of dry mopping. And there is a line or gap from the two rotating pads left on floor.

@@dzhang58 return it, you are buying an expensive problem. Wait until you get to the app problems as well.

@@dzhang58 They should have ironed this problems out during development but they are easy fixes. To improve the mopping check my comment above, it's an easy fix. The line gap is already fixed in the latest firmware and also the app has a new feature that make the robot do tighter turn so the paths overlap more.

@@elleryfg7853 Just ordered one myself. I've got washers and springs on standby. I was curious to add a float shutoff for water input to the tank, then just a hole and john guest fitting with 1/4" tube for waste water drain. Should be pretty self-sufficient. Dreame seems to have bad obstacle avoidance and roborock doesn't dry mops. Seems x1 is still superior.
