Today we purchased our third John Deere snowmobile for a $500 or less cheap snowmobile challenge that ‪@JunkyardDigs‬ planned. I picked up this 1976 JD 440 for $150. The plan was for it to be our backup sled but you'll have to watch Kevins video to see it in action!

Sometimes you can use a spring from a ink pen on those screws so they hold position

if you ever have a large tank your trying to clean. you can use a flat 1/3 sheet or 1/4 sheet sander. ratchet strap it to the tank and fill tank with your ultra sonic mix. turn on the sander and let it eat. basically makes a Giant ultra sonic cleaner ;-)

Genius, I will have to give that a try as I have like 4 plastic tanks I need cleaned out now! Thanks

The 1976 JD 440 had a Kioritz Engine KEC 340-22A engine with 2 Mikuni carbs on it. They still sell parts for the Mikuni carbs and you can find a lot of parts still for the Kioritz.

I did see that they sell rebuilds, I just couldn’t get one shipped in time unfortunately. Gasket maker worked temporarily though lol

I did try a few from other carbs I had laying around but no luck. Gasket maker worked temporarily until my rebuild kits show up.

Looked like fun, knew a few when they were new, seemed to be fairly quick & comfortable. Thinking about a little ice racing next year? Lol! Good fun could be had, not to mention "content"! Lol! Thanx !

Lol, yea, here too (W.Mich). Used to be a few places to run motorcycles. & If it got no snow & cold, ice boats were a blast!! As fast as a quick sled! Or faster. But, we've harhar gotten any snowfall, & it's all melted a clue of times. No ice on the lake either.

Why didn't you just replace the whole base rather than reusing the rotted part, as for the apalstery that was great the glues now day's certainly work, you seem to be as lucky as me what can go wrong will go wrong, could have put a car filter it would hold more crap before it clogs up, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones

Did you gap the Plugs to Spec? It's better than the gap they come with, that recoil just needs to be oiled and the rope spun around a couple more times. That track looks Sketchy 😬

@@wrenchin-redneck It's easy to Pull the suspension racks on the Deeres aslong as the Tensioner bolts get cleaned and lubricated the day before you wanna take it apart, if the Boggie wheels are ceased spray em with penetrent and tap the wheel in each direction with a 3 pound hammer until it starts to spin, if the bearings are really Rusty might have to let it sit over night after spraying oil on em, flat spots are a good sign the wheels are ceased lol
