Looks like you forgot to put the little clear washers down first. They're supposed to protect the face of your peghead. I changed the course of the strings on my two Hagstrom Swedes by installing a Fender string tree at the top screw of the truss rod cover. Did the trick, cost significantly less, and it's pretty covert.

Cool idea. My Gibson stays in tune well but when it does stray it’s always always the G string

I have 2 of these on 2 if my Gibson SGs. The G string doesn’t give me hell anymore. 👍🏻

I used to have tuning issues, then I tried Big Bends Nut Sauce. That stuff works great

I would have used the strings with the history of going out of tune with the butler. Never introduce 2 variables when doing a test.

As mentioned in the video, I have used 11's on the guitar in the past and the tuning issues were still there.

Stretching in Strings??? My strats have roller nuts locking machines and floating trems and I can change Strings and gig the same day!! My 2009 standard has locking machines I've never had tuning problems, the string Butler is a great idea but it's not cheap perhaps I'm mean So do you get strings on a silver tray then??

I have locking tuners on my les paul and it does the job of keeping it in tune greatly

I've never thought of locking tuners as a solution for tuning stability - to me they've always just been a more efficient way of restringing a guitar. This Les Paul has locking tuners and a GraphTech nut on it, yet it still doesn't stay in tune for very long. Hoping that the String Butler has solved this!

Locking tuners are little more than a convenience. Properly wind the string using a quality tuner and it's just as good.

Les Paul tuning issues is a myth...if the nut is cut right and its strung up in the proper manner (see joe bonamassa guitar techs video) and stretched in properly. Its like when people say you need locking tuners, its bollox you look at pros that play les pauls they dnt use them..klusons end of..cheers 👍

This. Just file the nut slots properly. They need a little curve to accommodate the extra angle.

Is the tuning issues mainly a Les Paul thing? My SG isn’t so bad at holding tuning. Cool concept though for the string butler

I have two LP's. A 2012 LP Studio 50's Tribute that needed work on the nut and bridge saddles to clean up tuning instability issues. It's good, not great at holding tune under duress, but far better than the way it shipped. A replacement nut, cut properly, would likely cure it completely. And then I have a 2014 R8 Custom Shop that's ridiculously stable - every bit as stable as my Am Std tele. Clearly Gibson CAN make it perfect... they just don't do it nearly as consistent as they should. Thankfully, they at least delivered on the CS model, otherwise that would be beyond shameful. Tuning stability issues on LP's ia real thing, but it's a resolvable issue if you have it, imo. I'd recommend a skilled luthier or guitar tech well familiar with LP's and cutting a nut for one... in other words, don't swing by Guitar Center looking for them to fix it properly.

Hi, Ross. Did you have any issue when installing the String Butler with those locking Grover tuners? I have a String Butler installed in my Gibson LP, but I'm thinking on replacing the Kluson style tuners by Grovers and would like to know if the locking ones are compatible with this thing. Cheers!

I don't see how this could work. Yeah, the strings go through the nut straight, but the angle of the string is more pronounced coming off the butler than it was through the nut originally. I haven't tried one so I can't comment on its effectiveness with any authority, but that's my thought.

I've never understood the whole tuning cliche. I've got a 2016 standard, it's my main gigging guitar and It stays in tune just as well as my start and Tele does. I've regularly done 2 set and only had to tune it once before we start.

You have been blessed by the gods my friend. I got a les Paul Special a month ago, prefect sound and feel but the g string will not stay in tune even after a setup.

@@Uncannyguitar it does seem like I've gotten very lucky. I must say though the guitar was set up by a set up wizard. He's the best guitar tech within a 100 mile radius easy If not more. All my guitars that have been done by him are just flawless.

I have installed the same. As soon as you play a solo with bends that go on or over 2HT you still go out of tune. One of the main problems with Gibson is also the saddle. I let my luthier install a bone one, particularly for my strings and tuning. That helped a lot. But yeah, Gibson is overpriced shit, better go with locking nuts :D Edit: I have a Gibson Studio

Think about a classical guitar, does it get out of tune? Never, same system different results, Right? This is not a solution, it helps for SG's, but not perfect. Does the fender system work perfectly? NO. Try to guess and if you are nice I'll give you a hint... :)
