Thank you for this update on the filming in the parks. I understand their should be permits on big film crews. But just a gopro or phone camera from one person, it should be fine. We are actually helping the park on what not to do in the parks. The parks needs to get with the times.

Whew.. busy Sunday morning! Emailed my Senators as well as the Energy & Natural Resources Committee members. Just a heads-up, .received automated email response from Senator Angus King of Maine indicating receipt of my email and because I am not a resident of that state they encourage contacting your state senator. Slightly disappointed with that response, but kinda understand. However, you'd think that being on specific committees that there would be a way to manage requests about those specific topics.

My interpretation is that the camera can go on a tripod or monopod, but the lighting equipment must be hand-held, not on a stand. However, they allow a crew of up to 5, so some of the crew could hold the lights. My $.02...

Thank you for doing this. Am writing to Senators Bennett and Hickenlooper now. A correction to the letter though, the spelling of Booz Allen Hamilton the first time they are referenced. Remove the e in Booze. :)

Hi Park Junkie thanks and good job. I would suggest on that word "involved" that they substitute "as part of the film crew" something like that to lock it down. That part about not superseding those others land rules seems a bit like a poison pill, but if people who do content creation/video production like yourself can live with it I can, but maybe there is a compromise yet to be found. Where do the big players stand on this bill like Hollywood? That could be a powerful lobby to help make this law as long as the smaller content creators are not left out by some compromise that is anti competitive. The Serra Club could be another worth having. I think a petition with your bullet points would be a good idea, and if it got started now something could be put up in the 2024 federal election in the form of a referendum and then you could ask those same signers to provide their support for the referendum too. We will also have to watch the amendment process carefully and have a phone bank and C-Span team to react when someone tries to add, take away or poison the bill. Yes these are big deals, to organize, but if you can attract groups like the poor peoples campaign and unions and every other average Joe and Jill group you got an army of support. After all, national parks are where many working people go. I think your the right guy to ramrod this job, because your not afraid to ask for help and your aware of your limitations, thus you need a multi pronged offensive to get this done successfully. In my opinion it would not surprise me that spy shop selling reservations will or is influencing this bill so they can claim a blessing from the public. So paying attention to the language like you are is key and spot on. Lastly, you might be a small operator, but far from a nobody. I'm so surprised they have not reached out to you as a face for the park system. You make people want to go to one without ever saying they should. Maybe after this is done you should get some of your stuff in front of media/public relations people and if they have a pulse your love of our parks that radiates from you will make them ask you to do some PSA's for them. What's the worst ting that can happen they don't want your help? That's survivable right lol. I'll send mine out for sure. It's the least I can do for a guy willing to climb a cliff twice just so I can watch him do it. :-)

Thank you for what you are doing about this matter, however in my state it is a lost cause, due to my two Senators refuse to accept emails from people in their state. due to their sites will not process the email.

Read the small print very carefully, please, for with Joe Manchin involvement, drilling permit could be hidden in there somewhere!! Thanks for doing this research, investigation, & lobbying!!!

Unfortunately some Senators only provide an electronic form to e mail them that only allows approx 3000 characters. The letter you’ve provided is more than 10K characters so it becomes necessary to rework the verbiage significantly to fit the electronic form.

Will commercial companies be allowed to intrude or take over a site to make a movie or advertisement? You promise not to intrude, but there is nothing to prevent a commercial operation from intruding. Clearly, you don’t want rules to inhibit what you want to do, but, unfortunately, rules are made for people who do not know how to behave, especially when $$$ are at stake. My experience at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands NP was ruined when a crew showed up to film a person running across the arch for an ad for athletic clothing. Appalling! Will this new law prevent this? How will it be enforced? Would I have to take precious ti:e out of my day to gather evidence, identify the violators and report and testify against (to whom?) those miscreants? Please, no loopholes in the law to allow violators to get away with ruining people’s vacations.
