*** apologies for the mono soundtrack, I thought this was fixed in post processing. I cannot change it now it's up on KZfaq. Hope it doesn't ruin the video for you.
Hi Everyone,
As you call know, Crosstown has been delayed for a while now with no concrete timeline communicated to the public. That said, I thought I'd try to take a look at where we are at. Focusing on Sloane and Eglinton as two areas of pain that were holding up the project.
As always, please appreciate that, when I shoot these videos, I do some preliminary research, but I call it as I see it unscripted so there will be inaccuracies that I try to check later as my knowledge improves.
Thanks so much for subscribing and supporting the channel. If you have been watching and are not subscribed, please just hit the subscribe button and bell. It really helps to build the channel.

I knew from the very beginning that eglinton station would be the last stationsto be completed throughout the line, basically because of the delay this ONE STATION is in has been the only thing holding up the line while 98% of the line is completed

It does appear that way. Doesn’t it.

@@grammin yesss I work in office building right by that station.. ugh only progress in recent days has been some side walks are finally starting to come to fruition across from my office.. yeah that one station has taken AGES literally they were able to build 11 condos around that area in the time it's taken that station 🙄

Thanks for the comment, It'll be strange to see that intersection complete after all these years. It'll feel good as well, I reckon. They're almost there!

@@VAPOURIZE100 Well that is going to happen too, the land on the south east side where they mainly store stuff is going to be filled with condos when the station is done.

Another solid video. I'll bet you that the VW Dealership that was just breaking ground at the beginning of the video will be fully complete and operational before the Crosstown is running. Check back in a few months!

Thanks @jonathan_careless Haha, I was looking at the prices of Jeeps at the other dealership there. I think we'll all be hoping the transit is open soon as no-one will be able to afford a car!

The VW dealership moved a couple of blocks away. It's my understanding that a condo tower is supposed to take over that space.

As someone from Vancouver, British Columbia I’m baffled someone hasn’t been fired due to the delays. Surprisingly all our transit projects here were built on time and the whole Canada line opened a year early. The only line that’s currently delayed is the Surrey Langley Skytrain. Broadway subway part 1 is on time too. It’s disappointing that the TTC & METROLINX has this project thus behind schedule. I’d be furious!

Thanks for the comment. There are many furious people in the city over this project and there are certainly calls for heads to roll so to speak. That said, it's sooo close everyone just really wants it done, sooner rather than later. Line 6 on Finch West seems to be tracking ok for next year as expected. Hopefully lesson learned are used effectively. I must get over to Vancouver for a couple of videos!!

@@grammin I’d imagine there’s a good chunk of y’all Torontonians that are undoubtedly furious. I get your point where people have waited for so long that they just want to see it completed. It’s a shame our governments lack oversight when it comes to public transit. I can’t wait for Eglinton and Finch to open up as it will expand the TTC’s reach beyond what’s capable at the moment! Once they get the Finch line to the airport, Toronto will be a transit utopia. Totally come through to Vancouver and ride our system! It’s unique, fully automated and the views are breathtaking especially on the Expo Line Skybridge that goes between the cities of New West & Surrey. The nice thing about TransLink Metro Vancouver is they run the entire regions transit. You can go from one end right at the border of the Fraser Valley region all the way up to the Sea to Sky coast region or down to the Canada USA Border! Come visit someday we’d love to have you here!!

The skytrain has the advantage of being elevated, it's much faster to build a bridge than to dig a tunnel, especially if you need a tall tunnel for a train with an overhead catenary. By not keeping the LRT running at street level or just doing a metro to begin with they added tons of unnecessary complexity and cost to the project. Not to mention that in the process of tunneling they kept coming across undocumented infrastructure buried underground and had to delay work to move it. All around selfish and bad choices made.

The trains are test running sporadically on the east end. At the north east corner of Eglinton and Victoria Park the electrical engineers are working on the logic boards and timing. And yes, Yonge and Eglinton is a huge mess.

Thanks Ian, I just got back from a closer look at Mount Dennis. I was hoping to catch some trains on film but it seemed like they were all parked in the MSF.

I think the existing science centre building is very unique and purpose-built for that location. If they truly want land to develop, I think they could use the parking lots and still keep the building in the current location (it's mostly on the side of the ravine and wouldn't be very suitable for housing developments anyway. If the goal of the move is to put a science centre in the downtown core, then maybe they could create a smaller satellite location. Just a guess, but I doubt Mr. Ford has been to the science centre and doesn't realize the complexity of moving a facility like that.
@grammin
@grammin 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment, I agree, it's such a unique location. It is such a large open plan facility though. I can't for the life of me think of an obvious use. Art Gallery comes to mind, the AGO is always looking to expand but they wouldn't need it all. Maybe a huge recreation centre for the public, Toronto seems to lack those??

Baffles me that they haven't opened the areas that are finished similar to the REM project in Montreal

There been quite a bit of discussion on that. Best comment so far is that the maintenance and storage facility is right at the end of the line🤷‍♂️

I agree with that. They could run what is finished in the East end then when the Eglinton -Younge station is finished open the complete line like what Montreal is doing with the REM LRT.

It’s a little baffling to me how the stations still have little bits of finishing at this time. Some looked the same this time last year until very recently. Could be wiring etc or parts delayed by the silicon shortage of the last few years or something like that?

If you go to the northern end of the mezzanine at Eglinton Station where the fare gates are, you will see where the old station will join with the new Line 5 station entrance. The passageway, however, is covered with hoarding.

I’m not an apologist for Metrolinx but there are many factors that can lead to delays. Difficult to attribute blame, learn from your mistakes and all that. Although I would agree that the CEO ought to to be held to a higher standard of scrutiny.

Not sure if the specs are different. Maybe expected to accommodate larger traffic loads therefore need to be more beefy. Pure speculation on my part though!

We are past 12 years on the Eglinton West subway with zero clue when it will evr be done. The TTC is the worst company /public transit system on the planet. Toronto should be embarassed and sued!
@grammin
@grammin 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment, to be fair it's not a TTC project although they will operate it. Metrolinx is the agency building the project! Latest is Dec 2024 which is not great. On the bright side most of us feel the Finch West LRT will be opening next year, the earlier the better.
