Sun Editor-in-Chief Adrienne Batra and political columnist Brian Lilley wonder when will the over-budget, over-extended, over-deadline Eglinton Crosstown LRT ever open up? And what about its CEO and president Phil Verster and his noncommittal to answer questions to the opening date?

Whenever my friends and I go to the Cineplex at Eglinton Town Centre usually Tuesdays and see a movie and then come outside at night after the showing is done we occasionally see the Crosstown LRT being tested and it is so infuriating we can’t ride it and have to get on the Eglinton bus which is slow and never arrives on the time indicated in the TTC text service.

Holy this thing looks so close to the Ottawa LRT. That same one that has single handedly taken Ottawa from the best rapid transit system in Canada to maybe like 8th place. Of transpose bus ways used to be beautiful and always on time.

@@jimedge8301I double dare you as an Edmonton LRT rider to go to Ottawa and figure out where you are and how their system works from the platforms. They've taken away the hundreds of red vested employees scattered about at every station to help residents figure out where the hell they are going and on what side they need to be. So you are on your own. This doesn't even cover literally putting your life on the line with each trip - not from criminals but rather the train itself.

My girlfriend and I have a little wager when this finally opens. One of us is going to take the Martin Grove north to Eglington and then across as far as it goes and then go to Yonge and Bloor while the other takes the south bud to Kipling and then to Yonge and bloor. Who do you think will win. To be honest when people can hop on a bus to go to the Bloor line to go downtown it makes no sense. And if you’re on an Eglington bus it has to stop at every stop
@soso-zz9qf
@soso-zz9qf 8 ай бұрын
It has too many stops, should've been elevated, and honestly just should've been a grade seperated light metro. That being said, it's not supposed to be faster than line 2 (despite what the ads are saying), it's supposed to replace an over capacity bus with a higher capacity and (theoretically) faster option. That being said, eglinton should've been a true rapid transit option full stop.

It is what you want. You have elected teachers, lawyers and store owners that failed at their job to build and manage multimillion dollar projects. They hire the most incompetent and lazy workers to do the work. I watched five guys(two with white hats on) putting up a sign near Warden/Eglinton for the tracks. They used a speed square, tape measure and laser level to locate and drill a hole. They then test fitted the sign, took it down to locate with the tools the second hole, repeated the process for the four holes to mount the sign (just a straight pole with warning tape around it). This took about an hour, they had five more poles to mount.

Could be Ottawa. They forced theirs into service and I don't have enough time or space to list the problems. Sewage smell at your main, central station? Doors that jam when touched? Wheels that go from round to square? Trains that don't like ice or snow? How 'bout self-derailing trains? And that's just the highlights.

in their defense (not that they deserve it) the deficiency as far as tracks go was milimetres off.
@solkinar
@solkinar 9 ай бұрын
@@DrakeFromStateFarm the story is reported as millimeters off but sounds questionable. The weight of an LRT passing over a section of track would cause it to flex. Wear of metal wheels against metal track would cause it to be out of spec within months. Temperature change would also cause constantly changing measurements. As a welder and former railway worker I believe it to be out of spec more than just millimeters. Unless of course they mean 10 or 20 millimeters.

@@Dee12327 I can't speak to Edmonton's feeder routes, but LRT is night and day. Not even close. Will the Valley Line be a sh!tshow when it finally comes on line - probably, but more so due to Edmonton drivers that can't stop hitting it, but at least the main LRT works well. Ottawa's has screwed their entire system. And Ottawa's is brand new. Edmonton's is over 50 years old now? So lame. Just to paint a picture. Just after it opened in 2019, a private citizen created a blog so that riders could report breakdowns and delays in real time. The LRT still isn't fully working today.

Metrolinx is not a construction company. They have teams of contractors actually doing the building. The Crosstown project predates Metrolinxs as an organization, it predates the Ford government and all of the ministers of transportation and infrastructure. The trade off here is time or money, quality is none negotiable. And given how this project was setup by the liberals it is not realistic to say it can be sped up with more money because that’s just not realistic given the money it would take. The real transit issue I would love for us to discuss is amalgamation of all the GTA transit organizations into one regional network like Transport for London and other multi-city metros in Europe and Asia.
