We adopted our staffie when she was 18months, retired now, we do not have to leave her much. When she showed anxiety I placed her in my comfy chair and told her to guard it. She caught on at once, and ever since she has jumped into the chair when she sees us preparing to leave, and when we get back she jumps down to allow me to sit down and then jumps up onto my lap. They can be massively intelligent when they wish to be.

Proud owner of a Staffordshire mix, she has blossomed as an older dog, just very sweet and super affectionate. They tend to be high maintenance in many ways as puppies but they are such loyal and loving dogs. I have not been able to socialise her since COVID but she is still the same. Besotted with her since I bought her home. My husband who is less enamoured with dogs than I am, often states that I am her slave. Possibly? She is awesome and cuddly.

I SO appreciate your take and on-line training about a Staffy. My husband and I adopted a one-year-old rescue Staffy 7 month ago and I am learning how to be a better leader and to help her with those learned shelter issues every day. My girl is loving, sweet, SMART and active. She has some issues but we are working on them. She came with no real idea of how to live in a home and we have taught her many basic commands (sit, stay, come, no, yes, leave it. lay down and so on) during the first 3-4 months with us. She learned those quickly. Now we are working on self-control around food and balls etc. We have a trainer lined up to help us do better with healing on lead (she is VERY strong!) She is a cuddler, loves her brain/mind games and playing with us in our condo. Happy keep on learning more...keep the lessons coming.

I’ve just adopted a 5 years old boy... we are working on his anxiety issues, it’s been 5 weeks and we are making progress. He’s stopped shaking when I put my shoes on to go out, he knows now that sometimes it means he’s coming too.

My cheeky 4 year old female staffy jumps the fence to visit the neighbours (both sides) and makes herself at home by lying on their beds or on comfy chair in the sun enjoying their company!! Luckily they love her and happy to have her visit whilst I'm out for the day... 🙄😆🐶

I rescued my staffi at the age of 8 ,last year,he came with a list of bad behaviours,the biggest was separation anxiety. So bad I couldn't have a shower!!! I literally had to start with leaving for one second and build it up. He is stubborn so this adds to trying to rehab him. You need a lot of patience,I think it is contagious too because now I have it too!! 😂😂 Crate training him .....forget about it ! Goes biserk! Kongs and food .......not interested. Trust me to rescue the hardest stubborn boy with issues as long as your arm,food allergies,skin allergies,got a virus that nearly killed him!! He was never socialised ,so he goes to doggy daycare once week to learn how to play and socialise. But I love him,he is my boy,but I have aged !!😂😂😂

It sounds like My staffy (6 months old - only had him 4 weeks) just barks to get that initial attention. I usually hear him barking and whimpering when I leave but I’ve noticed if I’m gone more than 15 minutes. He’s silent and calm when I come back.

well that was the first thing i trained with my dog when i got her, besides the usuall stuff. I just made a normal thing out of it. I just leave nothing in between no cuddeling or what ever i just go, and she learned that way i go and its normal and i come back its also normal. Granted she is never truly alone since i have also two cats, but i am really glad she never developed any anyiety when i leave the house.

I had a staffy years ago with really bad separation anxiety and depression, we had the get rid of her, long story short as we were not home all the house and she destroyed our back door, and slept most of the time when inside with us.

We’ve had our Staffie boy for a year now & he’s nearly 3… He was trained before coming to us & is amazing but on walks he still pulls a lot, despite us training etc & he is so attached to my husband he ‘tells him off if he doesn’t play’ it’s funny but he does it to all of us if he is bored, or he licks his paws so we pay him attention..

I do not have a dog yet. Still looking online. Hoping in two weeks to start visiting the shelters near me. Interacting with different dogs and seeing which dog is really interested in me. That has bden sucessful way for me in the past. I have enjoyed meeting others pit bulls and also interested in staffy's there are quite a few of both that need good homes. I am 69 and can only afford one to live with me in my home. What size crate should I buy for a staffy and or a pitty? I am watching the program and will continue to so that I know how to be with them I want the general public to see that there are no bad dogs. Just bad owners. ❤ the bully breeds. Aylea

We adopted our Stafford at 9 years old. She is the best, very well behaved, very sweet and does not have seperation anxiety when it comes to us. With all my dogs I always tell them what I am going to do and then leave. No whole routine or anything. Never had a problem. But she seems to have it with visitors. As soon as they stand up to leave she gets really anxious, starts barking and when they open the door she starts crying massively. We don’t understand this behavior as she doesn’t show it with us. Once she even tried to bite a visitor in the butt. Anyone advise??

I would strongly suggest the boot camp training, especially being it’s your first Am Staff. I have no regrets. My blue nose male is a handful. I feel that an animal without good manners is a pain in the butt and worthless. I love my dog so much, he means everything to me.

I've always had two staffys as they do hate being left alone and I think they thrive in pairs. I always get a male and female and get them both done as that way there are less problems .people think staffys are this big tough dog but they can be little softys ♥️ if left alone they just like be human company if somebody was at work for long hours I don't thinka staffy would be a good dog to get they need to be around humans 👌

Any tips on Thunderstorm anxiety? My rescue staffy is terrified of storms, to the point that she has destroyed doors (she’s crossed with an amstaf so she’s a tank!) looking for me if I’m not home. Unfortunately I live in subtropical Australia where we have almost daily storms in summer, often in the afternoon before I get home from work. When I am at home she will cry until she is next to me and then will sandwich herself to my body trying to get as close as possible. She will go to other family members but not for long before she’s looking for me again.

@willathertonstaffyshow6068
@willathertonstaffyshow6068 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Phil, thanks for watching! We would recommend that one person takes the lead on training so your dog doesn't get confused and then as time goes on the other adults step in more. It's best though to all follow the same training plan so your dog is getting the some responses for the behaviour no matter who they are with. Hope that helps!
