Another awesome video mate! I am not much into presets, but I have to say, impressed with how you use your "preset package" ... I definitely think buying is a good investing! You should more videos like this one! There is nothing out there, when it comes to post wildlife pics, specially from someone that lives right there and has the experience not just photographing these amazing creatures, but also knows their behavior which is as important as knowing how to photograph them! Thank you! cheers!

I bought these after discovering your channel and can only endorse what others are saying. They make me think about the workflow and do indeed make it more predictable. I also learn more about Lightroom. Changes can be very subtle, so having a calibrated monitor is definitely recommended! Great product and a great channel (one of the best!)

Thanks so much for the endorsement Andrew - I note what you say about the calibrated monitor, some of the adjustments are barely visible as you say. I think a good monitor is probably one of the first investments to make for post processing.

To me Cheetah is one of the most beautiful animal. Beautiful face , elegant , sleek body and graceful movement. The one thing which sounds weird a bit , it's their sound :) I really like the way you worked on the image , and created such a sweet portrait of baby Cheetah. Hi Darren, thanks for watching! Yes I have thought about it. I even sat in a blind for a few hours the other day - no pics though. I’ve let the garden grow wild and it’s really attracting some nice birds. Shrike, barbets , white eyes, grey hornbill, wood hoopoe, African hoopoe even a pair of freckled nightjars. There’s more animals out there than we realise (I met a porcupine in daylight in traffic a few years back - it took shelter under the Landy) Unfortunately I’ve had a lot of work to complete outside of this so haven’t got there yet. First time poster. Fantastic video Will. I have been enjoying working my way through your videos. I usually watch one while having lunch. The perfect combo - feed the body and the mind. I was surprised by several things though: 1) how late in the workflow you crop - it's usually one of the first things I do (I even normally crop as a pre-step to my last pass of culling to get a better sense of what the image can look like), 2) you didn't discuss at what point in the Preset workflow you 'step away' to do LR local adjustments or even round-trip to PS, 3) no mentioned of Topaz DeNoise AI as you did a great video on TDA and it seems like a natural to replace the NR step (and Sharpening step if TDA used) and 4) that it still doesn't appear that these presets can be purchased. Anyway, keep making these great videos!
@WillGoodlet
@WillGoodlet 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks for posting! Glad you are enjoying the vids :) On my cropping, often it's just before export. I don't like having cropped images in the catalogue as I find them misleading. I pass over using them in various forms because the crop I've applied fools me as I'm browsing. So I often keep a full sized image on top of the stack with crops in virtual copies. This way I can see what's possible with the image at a glance. This video is an early evolution of an idea. I can't remember exactly what was in it - but I didn't want to confuse the process by leaving LR. I do often use photoshop, but quite often that will be instead of LR. I tend to edit most shots in LR and a few in PS depending on what needs to be done. If you are using Denoise, one way would be to step into PS using a smartobject at the beginning and either stay there, or come back to LR after? I do actually have the finished presets for sale - the Wildlife Toolkit - including about 350 structured presets, 23 custom profiles and custom brush kit for local adjustments. There's a video course to go with them. willgoodlet.com/wildlife-toolkit-home

Hi Will. How do you get your Camera Profiles? Then place them into Lightroom. I have a 1DX3 and thinking about also buying the R5. I have heard that Canon and Adobe are, for some reason not co-operating with each other. As I bought your course recently, the camera profile is needed to add to Lightroom, so the logical flow is maintained. Cheers R

@@WillGoodlet in tried a preset on some pictures I took this morning but I find I difficult. I just bought a new camera and the images are realy different to process then with my old camera. I also found out that ik have developed a workflow through lightroom for.my pictures and it is hard to put that aside and use the presets. But I want to trie some more on new pictures maybe the change of camera is a good starting point to train myself into a different lightroom workflow. Great if you can find the song. It sounds like you use more from that same artist in your videos and some parts sound realy interesting
@WillGoodlet
@WillGoodlet 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, the song is called 'Geronimo' by Ten Towers - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rMV1atiYycWziaM.html Yes it is a similar sound, strong female vocals but not the same artist as many of the other videos. Then a lot of the others are really confusing - they are different bands, but all have Moon in the name...Not sure it the singer changed bands music.kzfaq.info/love/5OaluKnsql5-DQ-bXGtzew music.kzfaq.infoVLPLCOJbH0gltWiQFInRLlrUllFa-cr8dEeE I like tracks with strong vocals because the vocals hold up on their own without the instruments and it's a nice way to build in the driving scenes in the videos. Sorry to hear that the idea isn't working for you - I think stick to what you like! I just like experimenting with things and sharing ideas, it doesn't mean you need to change what you do :) More importantly what camera did you get??! Exciting!

@@WillGoodlet yeah but I realy like the way you put everything in order. I just intent to get the feeling that I'm just doing something. Eventually I get a result but it just seems easier to follow a workflow to get through that process. So I'll just give it some tries. Thanks I'll go and listen to it on my way to work. I bought the olympus em1x I'm a lifetime olympus user and I just love their philosophy of making smaller camera that are easier to travel with. It is my first realy professional camera and combined with the lenses I already had I'm realy satisfied. I just need to find good spots to get some nice images. Hopefully this lockdown is over soon and we can travel freely again.

@@WillGoodlet wow i like the sound of that voice. I sont think it is the same singer but specially the velvet moon is something I realy apreciate. I also like the darker female voices. Maybe you would like the swedish singer "Lykke li " I think that is in the same area of voice as the songs you found. She is an awesome voice but maybe a little bit more speed in some songs. Infirst discovered het when she was collaborating on a song with my all time favourite band u2. I'm a sucker for good music. I'm not so in to the electrical trance dance etc. Just good bands like u2, toto, the killers and voices like this realy catch my attention.

This is a great video tutorial about using or not using presets. Your workflow is on the button. I tend to use Adobe LR "AUTO" as a first go quite a lot. Their algorithm is actually very good. Will it is time for you to make some money and sell the Will Goodlet Preset Library :)
@WillGoodlet
@WillGoodlet 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Martin glad to hear you think I’m hitting some of the right notes. I used auto in an import preset a while back but discontinued as I found that it threw me off. I think a lot of workflows and presets are for people like wedding togs - sometimes not always useful for us. I can’t say that I have one way of doing things because LR doesn’t handle my video projects well (it’s useless with sound files) but it’s settling down. I use photosupreme a lot

Hi Will. Another excellent video. I really do not like the usual presets that are sold by others. They are one key multi-function adjustments, which must become extremely boring after using a few times. On the other hand your structured presets give the author infinite options to develop an individual style. For that, I applaud you. After writing this I think I will be downloading your presets. I saw in one of your comments below that you were refining the presets even further. Is that included in the downloadable set that you have?
@WillGoodlet
@WillGoodlet 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger, thanks for watching and sharing your view here. Yep they are much more developed now and come with a set of instructional videos (a course) also custom colour profiles for outdoor light conditions we typically encounter. They have been much more popular than I ever expected. They are quite subtle and the idea is that you build them up by following the workflow. You can also save the output as a custom one shot preset of your own.
@rogermullins7877
@rogermullins7877 3 жыл бұрын
@@WillGoodlet Thanks Will for the prompt reply. Your comment above states " ..... outdoor light conditions we typically encounter". Presumably you are referring to Southern Africa and not Northern Europe (UK) lol. After clarifying the updated presets are part of the package I am now heading over to download them. All the best. R
@WillGoodlet
@WillGoodlet 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Roger, I feel (but can't guarantee) that the conditions of overcast and sunlight are relatively constant and therefore can be profiled. Where I see most changes is often around the height of the sun and degree of haze or dust which changes the colour of light and shadow. Reflected light on the bird/animal underside is also tricky! But overall, it mostly seems to be a case of variations on oranges/yellows and blues/purples reflected off green/gold/white or blue backgrounds. There's certainly a lot of variables involved and there's no way the profiles can match every condition - white balance is very hard to manage and artificial light too - that has been a struggle. For example, I initially thought spotlights were going to be easy to profile but it's not the case! I started with this because I saw how video relied so heavily on exposure for accurate colour representation and that the need to match colour across video clips led to very structured approaches and development of colour lookup tables (effectively same as profiles). Felt there was no reason the same general idea couldn't be applied to photographs. The colour and exposure tools available for video are usually a lot better - although I have been playing with affinity photo and see that it supports video waveforms for stills which is fantastic.

Thanks, Will. You will probably think I'm a bit daft, but I don't use the before and after pictures whilst I'm editing....and I don't know why I hadn't thought of it! I agree that presets don't always suit multiple images, but your method is food for thought. Are you still in lockdown there? It's getting tedious, but at least I can get out with the camera here. Stay safe all x

Hi Christine, thanks for watching - yes we are still locked up (we can now walk dogs between 6 and 9am). We're expecting a very long lockdown here - into september. I never use presets but I have explored Smart Collections for workflows and I suddenly thought that similar incremental steps could be used in presets too. It's been interesting exploring the idea. Glad you can get out and are well!!
