Hello everyone! Today, I have the murderous Ponziani Opening. This is marked by a savage c3 on the third move, with an idea for a quick d4 pawn push. If black is uncareful, they can quickly fall into many traps.

Thank you for this video! I've been trying out the Ponziani against a bot after watching GothamChess' video, but got completely wrecked and I didn't understand why. This video explains so much more, especially the Jaenisch Counterattack and Vukovich Gambit section was very helpful.

Nice! Thanks for covering the Vukovic Gambit :) It's rarely touched on KZfaq with white or black but since Levy released a ponziani video recently I've finally found a couple. Cheers.

1:23 the engine says it’s best to block the check with the bishop and the most common move for black is to take, this loses a developed piece for black and can develop your knight

It’s one of those things where the eval is barely better, but if you want to play that it seems like a perfect option.

This even though engine says it's best to block with bishop, frankly speaking, bishops are slightly more powerful than knights, and personally, I'd prefer losing the knight, rather than the bishop, especially in this opening. Also there is a forced line i have in my repertoire: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3 Bc5? 4.d4 exd4 5.cxd4 Bb4+ 6.Nc3 Nf6? 7.Bd3 O-O 8.e5 Nd5 And here we initiate the greek gift, with 9.Bxh7+ Kxh7 10.Ng5+ Kg6 11.h4 Nxc3 12.h5+ Kh6 13.bxc3 Bxc3+ 14.Kf1 Bxa1 15.Qg4 d6 16.Ne6+ Kh7 17.Qxg7# note, that i have covered some common moves, it's not a very forced line, i mean, you know you are winning when the second best move is to sacrifice the queen...

So if they play anything else that's not Nc6 before you play c3 don't continue with the ponziani?

14:55 why we can't give queen check and fork the knight
@Subdiv.7
@Subdiv.7 6 ай бұрын
Because black can move his pawn to both block the check and defend the knight (f5), the pawn itself is defended by the other knight.
