Consider a wind turbine to be a supplemental battery charger. Remember it only charges when the wind is blowing at a good pace, and its output is related to the wind speed. It's not a reliable source for constant power.

Cool video. I wish I could add a wind turbine like yours. the winter supplement is much more important in Illinois. Short days and clouds. Unfortunately all my systems are in remote trailers off grid with computers and cameras and stuff. it’s very difficult to put a big enough wind turbine on a small trailer that would produce any kind of real power. But if I had a log cabin or something like that off grid it would be helpful for winter time especially. Thx for the video

I understand. Right now, there's 0 wind here, so the turbine is useless, but the winds come up every afternoon before sunset, and supplement my system while the solar panels take a break.

I'm just getting to the wind turbine part ; I have water in all 20 of my batteries though. The sun was hot but we had a North breeze, which helped my panels put out a little more...but, they're all dirty...I have to help build a barn in the morning, so I'm going out to wash my panels off. I moved my charge controller today...it was buried behind batteries. I put it in front of them so maybe it can run cooler now. I got some " Scrubbing Bubbles " at the discount store. I normally get a little over 30 amps in the morning but today the most I saw was 25. Yesterday it was 101 deg. and no wind...everything was hot and didn't put out much, so it got me to checking things. I re-engineered my bug zapper. The original bulb is strapped on the outside and a 60 watts LED equivalent bulb is in the middle now. It only uses 5 more watts. It attracts flies now. I had to wire brush the screen off today because it was completely covered in dead bugs. I cut a lot of the holes out bigger so the bugs can go in easier without all that plastic in the way. It is popping a moth every few seconds right now. Cheap off grid entertainment, lol.

Hey GBear. Thanks for the content. Had a couple of comments for the viewers. For wind turbines.....there is a national wind energy map from the US government that gives the average wind to expect. Almost any wind turbines makes WILD claims of what it can produce. IF you decide on a turbine, you probably would always select one that produces a/c current to minimize the wire costs since you then would mount the bridge rectifier close to the battery bank such as your system. One thing that I am NOT 100% on, but I seem to think IF you are charging a 12v bank you can choose a turbine that is 24 volts and designed for LOW wind so that the CUT-IN voltage(by lower wind) starts the conversion faster so that it charges the 12v battery back easier and thus less wind is needed. Additionally, you're covered for 24v too. Since the turbine output goes through the rectifier, the battery would not see the difference since the rectifier produces a pulse width modulated wave to mimic DC. On off grid solar panels and living in the desert I know of a company called Santan solar near Phoenix and they sell used and/or abused panels and they can be really cheap but with risks. However, for ground mount and things like that they are something to consider. Also, yeah the desert dust is a PITA. I lived in the southwest 30 years and that is another reason to look at some charge controllers that don't have fans. However, those units are smaller. However, the midnite solar classic can be sealed for the dusty environment too. Be safe and happy holidays coming up.

best extremely low wind turbine yet power output as though the wind was much higher is the AirSynergy wind turbines i plan to build an axial flux like that. those turbines are good performers in real low wind. everyone has low winds. actually this was a good video for beginners to open their eyes

If you only have one ! I have 4 And those 1800 watt P.M.A.s on your wind turbine will work on a Water Wheel or Anything else that spins , Exercise bike , steam engine , gas engine , propane engine , and I also have Solar Panels , So that's Wind Power Water Power Solar Power Engine Power Human Power And if you get 1800 watt P.M.A.s for each room of your house , and Battery banks with Inverters and Solar Panels with Thermal heating and cooling , It's possible to run an entire house , because that's exactly what I'm going to do , I'm going OFF GRID

@@GBear I saw a video sometime back where a guy had a bicycle wheel and huge pop bottles filled with water attached all around the wheel. He showed it spinning on its own. But I wouldn’t know how to hook up an alternator to get the wheel in motion. And then get it connected to your system. I just found it very interesting.
@GBear
@GBear Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've seen that video, and a few others like it. They try to persuade people that perpetual motion is a reality, but those of us who know better know it is impossible, and there is trickery going on. Unfortunately, there are people out there who don't mind lying and cheating to try for a viral video. Gravity, friction, and opposing forces from the load make it impossible for a water wheel, without a running stream powering it, to continue to turn under load.
@simon359
@simon359 Жыл бұрын
@@GBear I thought that’s what the weight of the water in the bottles would do? Once you got it spinning, it would be infinite. I forget the guys name, but there was a guy I believe in the 70s who had a self perpetual idea, and wanted to get it patented. But the government would not allow him to patent it? There were a number of scientists and even people on the news who saw it working, and we’re astounded. But he got more bitter as he got older, because nobody would help him. In the end, he dismantled it and died. Wish I could remember his name. Getting old.
@GBear
@GBear Жыл бұрын
We're all getting old. Remember the law of motion..."An object in motion will remain in motion, until affected by an outside force." Think of an asteroid flying through space...why doesn't it stay in a straight line and travel from galaxy to galaxy forever in the same direction? Gravity from other masses cause it to travel in orbits until something enters its path and a collision occurs. The water in that water wheel would simply equalize the weight from one side to the other, and the wheel would stop. Add a resistance to that wheel and it would stop earlier because the work overcame the power.

Solar panels aren't all they are cracked up too be!! Mum is on grid!! But has solar panels!! The government here in Australia has found a loophole too get that extra .5 cents of electricity back from solar panels and Mum is not happy about it!!
@GBear
@GBear 2 жыл бұрын
Out here they offer free installation to grid people, because the grid is overloaded, rivers and lakes are drying up, and the grid can't support all the new houses being built, so they get people set up with solar, then sell the excess power to their neighbors.

I don't know where Mr 🐻 got his analogies or theories from about what wind turbines can an cannot do. Wind turbines can run your whole house without any solar panels, l have three thousand watts of panels and twenty six hundred watts of wind turbines and I keep my whole house running in the night when there's no sun shining in the night I keep my batteries in a hundred percent state of charge. running two deep freezers an a refrigerator, with my winds anywhere from fifteen to twenty miles per hour an am dumping most of that power. At the end of the day it's how much you know about how things work where you live where and who you buy stuff from an how your wind turbines are set up. Anyone who doubts me that wind turbines can run your whole house keep your batteries fully charged all day and all night once enough wind is blowing for your type of setup. Check out John Daniel on KZfaq I've learned a lot from him he's a great guy on wind to learn from.
@GBear
@GBear 2 жыл бұрын
Dear Kurt, do you get up every morning with that chip on your shoulder? First off, disconnect all of your solar, then tell us how long everything in your house kept running. Secondly, wind is not a guaranteed constant, so it cannot be counted on as a reliable source.(but if you live in a place where your wind blows constantly and the same speeds, and you have figured out hot to get nearly 3000 watts of power from turbines running at a small percentage of max output, then, I stand corrected. You could also add another 40 batteries to your bank and weather a night or 2 without wind or sun. I thought I was pretty clear, and accurate in my statements through the video, and stand by my claim that you cannot run an entire household on a single turbine alone. Of course, if I had made the statement that you can't tow a loaded semi truck with a compact electric car, I think you might accuse me of misinformation and tell people they can, as long as another semi pushes from the rear, and it is downhill all the way. Sorry, but I can't give you a thumbs up or a heart for your attempt to discredit me. (But I'm sure Mr. Daniel's will, for the shout out) By the way, I have viewed many of his videos, and always give HIM a thumbs up.
@kurtlee6608
@kurtlee6608 2 жыл бұрын
@@GBear am not gonna debate with you or do I need a thumbs up it's here nor there. The fact remains I shut my panels completely down an run everything I need to run in my house twenty four hours days on ends once there is fifteen to twenty miles per hour wind and I can prove it. It still stands that if you have enough turbine power an enough wind and set up the correct way you can run your whole house for days on ends.

Welcome aboard! Yes, smart choice. The sun is present much more often than the wind. Solar should always be the primary source, wind turbines are supplemental. Water turbines work day and night IF you have a reliable, constant water supply. A multi fuel generator is a great backup for emergencies.
