When the ship I was on in 1965 stopped in the Indian Ocean for swim call, we ran the depth on the BT just for fun, read around 2.5 miles deep. Great relief to swim, being out there in a non-AC ship was like a sauna below decks. Couldn’t touch bottom with my feet- but the same is true in an 8’ pool.

One of the great memories of my life is swimming over the Kermadec Trench becalmed at night with light rain making the sea green with phosphorescence. Water was so clear it was like being in space. Being becalmed is not all bad but 5 days is a long time. It’s why the trade wind season is sometimes easier. Great video. In a strange mirror, i was born in USA to NZ parents with sailing mad Dad.

Just finished watching you on the Crusty Seadog sailing channel. Never having seen a solo female cruiser, in + 50 of sailing on my own, my first reaction was "Bullshit". Lost my two front teeth when I was 2yrs old couch surfing on my parent's monohull. I have crossed the Atlantic and Pacific oceans multiple times, but never attempted to circumnavigate the globe. I had seen too many terrible things to want to explore any more unknown places to me. Now that the world appears to be a much more reasonable place I'm too old, and still don't want to. Good for you!
