i am using a 1978 kenmore window uint and boy alot has changed. mine has a reciprocating compressor not a scroll, it has metal fans, a fan motor that you can actually oil, thick coils and there is no styrofoam, it is all metal with insulation on the outside of it. i take it out, oil it and clean it every year. and it is not a high end one. it is just a 6000 BTU unit. old stuff lasts. i would rather use a bit more power than replace the unit every 2 years.

I gotta hand it to man ..... when you said you would clean it up and make it look new ... I said we will see.... you did an excellent and thorough job. I should tell your viewers if they get a good job like this they are lucky... most people would charge the fee for a job like you did BUT they will not do it 👍👍

This is how I've cleaned every unit I've owned or received. I can't tell you how many people have given me ones to "junk" because it quit blowing cold, or wasn't working that good. I get it, take it apart and both coils are plugged! Usually people will not replace the filter or ever clean it, and it plugs up the evaporator coil and causing it to freeze up, and the condensor coil won't do a whole hell of a lot if it can't reject heat. Be careful with the fan motors though, While they are sealed... After years of hot, cold, wet, dry and etc... They don't work as well and force cleaning them will get water / soap into the bearings and cook them (Very very easy fix though)

Bleach does not actually react with the aluminium, but with the copper tubing (Coils) that runs through the fins (oxydation)... If you work fast enough and do not let the bleach sit for hours in too strong a concentration you should be find to fight mold and slduge.

I don't think that bleach / water solution is going to hurt the coils. They will spray industrial coil cleaner on them and just rinse off. That coil cleaner has some corrosive ingredients. So I say bleach water won't hurt a thing.

Gerald Shafer I tried it one time on a junk ac I had. It discolored the aluminum fin and was turning it a blackish color. It wasn't like pitting or corrosion, maybe tarnish? I'm not sure but the fin still seemed strong but I don't know if it affected its life span or not.

Bleach did the job on my window ac that was spewing water like a mofo. It was clogged with sludge. A little bleach opened up the drain lines down inside the ac unit. Sprayed from inside and outside of house. Used a couple ounces bleach for entire job.

I have a cleaned frigidaire 8000BTU window ac unit. I've accidentally got my wires confused. Please help me properly reattach them. Thank you. Please respond.

About the best I can do is tell you to look for a wiring diagram somewhere on or inside the unit. You can also contact the manufacturer and give them the model number and ask them for a diagram.

The thing that annoys me is you can never make them absolutely brand new again I think that's the thing that annoys me the most overtime it's just going to wear out get rusty moldy and need to be cleaned it's just so annoying they can never stay brand new but I have a little hack in place I've noticed since I've done it I take my AC out every year I don't take the electronics out and I clean that bich I spray it down every year

THEPLANETEARTH in todays throw away society that is what they want, for you to throw away everything. I want to get my hands on some nano spray. Supposedly it repels everything including mold growth and never wears off. I want to coat the inside of a new unit and see how it does.

Bbernhardsr I might have to try that with a new air conditioner

THEPLANETEARTH I have working air conditioners from the 80's. They can make it, they just dont want to. Don't make enough money if you only need to buy a new ac every 20 or 30 years.

Bbernhardsr money is not necessarily the problem Windows AC units are generally becoming cheaper the problem is why don't they last like they used to it they just want to last like a couple years and then they break on you no matter how much you clean them cheap Japanese and Chinese Parts Main in Chinese I want American-made products again I just wish they would make American made products no matter how messed up it gets
