This was the only picture which Honorary Oscar winner Gordon Willis directed and photographed this. After "Windows" released in June 20, 1980...Gordon Willis says he will never directed another project instead he continues to photographed and help give such beautiful light and color on any excellent project that he ever had worked on. Working with some of the best filmmakers such as Woody Allen, Alan J. Pakula and Francis Ford Coppola, Gordon Willis always brings out the best in you. The movie "High Tension" mentioned at the end is one that really gets my goat. The first part of that movie, up until the gas station scene, was ripped off of Dean Koontz's "Intensity" (with no credit given whatsoever) and then completely ruined by a nonsensical "plot twist" at the end.

+The Nathaniel Videos (ASMR) In the 1980s. Interesting, in 1982, there was actually a small cycle of films that attempted to present more positive LGBT representation--they are Victor/Victoria, The World According to Garp, Personal Best, Making Love, and Partners (although that last movie is pretty awful).
@TheNathanielVideosASMR8 жыл бұрын
+harrietamidala1691 I've heard of those movies too, but of course in Making Love they had to have that little disclaimer at the beginning warning the public what they were about to see was a film portraying gay men in a positive light. But hey, it's nice to have some older films that weren't as dark Windows or Cruising.

As weird as it sounds, I think depicting gay people as villains was a step towards acceptance in society. Because previously, gay people were just not spoken of except in serious (as in, non-fictional) terms. Having a movie with a gay supporting character or lead, however, would have led to outrage from the morality police. So they put them in as the villain; it keeps the Pat Robertson's at bay, but it also shows that gay people, you know, EXIST. This lady writes poetry, seeks therapy, and descended into madness; not exactly normal, but it's something real people do, she's a person, not a "thing". It's step one.

I haven't seen the movie but she seems like a three dimensional villain. She's not just evil because of her sexuality, she's very clearly suffering from severe mental health issues which she's even shown trying to get help for. It's very possible to sympathize with her because at the end of the day she's just a very sick woman. She's shown as an ordinary human being.
