Hello Gijs, once again a really great and complex test. A very little grease will definitely help to get the chimney pipes apart more easily. There are greases that can withstand these temperatures with ease. Ultra-High temperature greases can handle temperatures up to 800°C. But such a very special (and expensive) grease is not necessary here. Best regards Joe

Hi Joe, Thank you too! I know about the grease and it might help but... I need to take even more care with handling the pipes and if I look at the scratches on the pipe ends... it might have to do with finish too. I don't have not seen this 'issue' with some stoves. I have a new Eldfjell for review now too.... Enjoy... well you know 😉 Cheers, Gijs

First time watching your video/channel great video.... On the woodlander's top opening accessing directly to the fire, you can grill steaks, brats anything by laying a small grill screen like from a toaster oven over the opening and cooking on top of that....... But only 1 steak or hamburger at a time being its size. Thank you!

Hi Micha, Thank you for your comment although I do not totally agree with what you write. Openingen the top and put a grill on it would work for sure to grill stuff but it will also result in a bad airflow and in smoke getting into the tent. So I do agree if you can open the top of the tipi like how tepees are use in the old mannor with an open campfire. Let me know your thoughts on this. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

Informative video. I believe there's now a stove by them that has windows on the side as well which makes it prettier to look at. I don't know whether this would reduce the cooking heat though. There's also a oven that fits to the pipe (semi permanently), it's a smaller oven but it does keep out the way in a crowded tent.

We've enjoyed watching some of them :) We already had a Woodlander stove and just got the Tentipi Safir 7 CP yesterday :) So we need to buy a couple more sections for the stove pipe and the chimney protector. I noticed on the Winnerwell website that they advise to also use a flashing kit too. Is this something that you have found necessary?
@OutdoorguruGearReviews
@OutdoorguruGearReviews 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hayley, Thank you for your sweet words! Flashing kit in a Safir? Why? The great thing about Tentipi is that they have a special opening for the chimney. A flashing kit is used in other tents (Bell tents mostly) and you need to cut a hole in the fabric for the chimney. Then a flashing kit is needed. Or do I mis understand your question? Maybe send me the link so I am sure we talk about the same. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

Hi Morten, I did not review the Nomad. I have seen it in use though and I think I would prefer the round belly of the Woodlander. I did like the G-Stove when testing the Safir 7 and the flat massive top is a fine grill and cook plate. The side arms of the Woodlander are better and more practical. Also I do remember that the legs of the G are a bit round and need a secure flat space. The Woodlander is very stable. Next to that the Woodlander comes with a proper spark arrestor and pipe with regulator. Both are not included I think in de G. The tent protector of the G was fine even with the little bit fiddle rain cover, both are also extra's.... Does this help a bit? Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

If you’re undecided it should probably be a 7 unless you are backpacking, in which case you shouldn’t get a CP Tentipi. I have a 7CP (partly because of one of Gijs’ earlier videos!) and I don’t think I would want a smaller one. Fine for our family of 3 but even when I’m alone it’s not overly large.

Gijs, a few comments on your temperature measurement. An IR thermometer (as the one you used) is normally accurate when used at the right distance (to get the right measuring area) and, -very important,- on the right surfaces. The thermometer ”assumes” that the surface is matte and dark having a large emissivity, i.e. close to 1. A shiny object, as your stove in this case, has a low emissivity. The accuracy of the measurement is therefore probably very bad. One way to fix that is to use some of the charcoal you produced in the furnace and ”paint” the surface you want to measure to make it darker and less shiny. And, it is not the laser spot that measures the temperature, it is only there to guide you to measure on the right spot, it is the radiation (Infra Red light) from the object that the meter is measuring. Maybe you knew all this already, but it was not obvious to me from the clip. Anyway, thanks for another great review!

Hi ATM, Thank's a lot for this great explanation and addition. I know some of it, not all. The guy who I borrowed it from has a garage and uses it on engines, pipes and that kind of stuff and I know distance to and color of the object is important and influences the measurement. I tried to do the best I could with hitting the object most directly for the measurement. Also I did it a lot of times in different circumstances and the results where not that far apart from each other. The temperatures inside the stove are measured on the wood and I did measurements on the tent fabric. I am not sure if I dare to paint pieces black since the stove is to be returned and I just tried to rub some charcoal but that does not stick. I will get back to you on this because it is intriguing and the next stove to review is a Eldfell...Nice way to try again. Cheers! Gijs

I find (with a Gstove) that closing the top between the stovepipe and the tent protector makes the tent protector much hotter, because of the lack of airflow between the two layers, so I’d be worried about this tent protector. A good tip is to wrap the tent protector in exhaust wrap - very cheap on Ebay, and quite effective.

How long can it burn and still produce a moderate heat
@OutdoorguruGearReviews

Hi Eric, Sorry for my late reply. The answer depends on what kind of wood you use and how much you put in it. But it is very good to regulate so 'simmering' is very well possible if you know how your wood burns. I hope this helps. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews absolutely, many great videos and advice here😀 I got the 5bp/cp even if I prefer the 7cp size simply cause I want to hike a bit away from roads and terrain here in Norway sort dictates that it got to be quite "carry'able" if there is such a word.. I fear the 7cp is a bit too big. appropos I found no videos on the entire youtube about how to get to your camp with these things haha 😄 I'm like whaat? Do all you guys drive to you campsites or do you have pack horses😅 you can't even split the weight much between you and a partner as the lavvo is one piece.. I guess the pole can be carried by someone else though. I Have to be able to carry it alone though, at least some times.

That mesh protector isn't for the stove jack. It's to protect the wall of your tent or your hands from accidentally coming into contact with the hot pipe. It would be idiotic to put that in your stove jack of the tent.

Hi Jimmy Bob, I haven't got a clue what you are talking about. The mesh is to protect the tent fabric from the heat of the stove going through the pipe. Nothing else. Don't believe me? Check this www.winnerwell.com/page119?product_id=739 Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

carbon monoxide is LIGHTER THAN AIR, so having your CO detector on the floor is probably the WORST thing you can do. the PROPER placement for the CO detector(s) is between waist and head height. if you put it down low it will not alert you until your tent has COMPLETELY FILLED with CO. science 🤜🤛
@OutdoorguruGearReviews
@OutdoorguruGearReviews 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Space Monkey, I had to contact the Dutch fire department about this. I don't get that you are the first to make this remark but yo are (almost) right. The advice I got was placing it at waist height. Not higher or lower. So: THANK YOU for this addition and I will make note of this in videos that are about tents and stoves. But in a tipi tent this can be quite a challenge since the heat source is very near to the detector and a lot of airflow is going on in the tent. Next to that I do think that when used in the proper way it is quite difficult to get this happening since the stove is a closed environment with a chimney. And the tent has low placed vent openings for fresh cold air that is sucked in the stove and the warm air with fumes leave the chimney. I'll need to do some testing in this with the local fire department; it is an interesting topic. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gij

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews You are correct & so are your Dutch firefighters. I'm a fireman & CO is actually heavier than air, but when it is hot form the fire it is lighter, so rises. When it cools through the night, it will come down & kill you. You are absolutely correct to have the detector at head height, as the detector is checking the air you inhale. They are usually mounted quite high in houses, but in bedrooms it is another matter. Tentipi also state never to open the roof vents when using a stove, only open the floor level vents.

Hi Michael, Thank you for the comment and I appriciate that you make a remark on the open top. I am ambiguous on open tops since it can result dat je get false airflow in the stove. In the Woodlander I noticed very little about this but I am wondering if you have other concerns. Next stove - will take a while though - is going to be the Eldfjell from Tentipi. Have you got any other stoves in mind? Cheers, Gijs
