The way I’ve found to learn this easily is to open up two internet tabs and put them side by side. On one you have BS, and another with some online blackjack game. Spend an hour just going through hands and using the chart. You’ll start to see some common patterns and quickly remember some common hands. Then after, go in excel and make a blank BS sheet or if you have your own use that, then just start playing hands and filling it in as you go, trying to remember if you can along the way. I think playing the game whilst you learn is great because it skips that weird phase of only knowing it purely on paper to putting it into practice in a game

Thankyou blackjack apprenticeships! I usually play blackjack with my friends everyday for like $10 buy in and I’ve been winning $5 to $20 everyday! This is definitely a trustworthy channel to watch to learn how to play blackjack the write way without risking losing a lot of your money! Of course I’ve lost money a few times but if I lose money it’s usually just a few dollars and never the amount of my buy in. If you stick to playing the game without risking then you will most likely gain money in the long run just like I have!

I still can't retain a running count WHILE playing perfect basic strategy yet, but I'll get there. UPDATE: I now CAN keep the running count while playing perfectly. I still lose the count if the dealer is super fast though.

Something I’m presently doing is, I created an excel sheet with the main 3 basic strategy tables. It’s a fill in the blanks kind of thing. I’ve been able to fit 4 tables on one sheet. So in addition to seeing it, I’m filling it in. If I find a spot I can’t remember, I study the crap out of that spot. Also when you write it down, your chances of retaining the info is so much better. Definitely helping out.

I have been pleasantly surprised when the dealer busted a number of times when I stood on a 13 or 14, and my gambling nature wanted to hit. Even just playing B.S. for a short while before moving onto counting gives me confidence.

Learning B.S. is brutal when I want to split/double, i just have to remind myself that it's not for the $ it's for the knowledge. I play your app and bought your book. Hopefully I can take one of your classes eventually. Thx

Is there different strategy charts for different rules? For example.. dealer hits soft 17 Vs dealer stands soft 17. Or 2 deck shoes Vs 7 deck shoes. Is this one chart you offer universal for all games? I've seen some charts that say don't double an 11 Vs an ace. Not like yours says.. I'd love some clarification. Hey Colin I have a question I would love for you to answer. Your basic strategy chart is a little different than wizard of Odds basic strategy chart when set to 4 or more decks and hit on soft 17. Wizard of odds tells you to surrender on 15 v A and 17 v A. It also tells you to double or stand on 18 v 2 and 19 v 6. Could you explain these differences ? Are your charts designed for for specifically 6 deck games or 8 deck games etc? I know your charts are hit soft 17. Thanks

After my first trip to Las Vegas back in the '90s I took the time to learn basic strategy. One of the smartest things I ever did. It was fairly easy, and since then I've been able to play BJ on every trip to Las Vegas (I go twice a year) with confidence. Don't always win, obviously, but I always feel like I'm playing well. And that counts for a lot with me. One note for new basic strategy players: it can be frustrating to play at a table knowing basic strategy and have players act ahead of you completely out of line with it. I used to get frustrated. Just accept that, especially at low limit tables, there will be a lot of people who don't "play correctly." Their bad play is no more likely to hurt you than it is to help you. Just roll with it. You'll enjoy your play more that way.

Another good example for losing less $ is to always splits 8s against 9 through ACE. Yes, it's still not a winning hand but 16 is the worst hand in blackjack. In the long run you still lose $ but you lose less compare to hitting or standing on 8s.

The only thing I didn't figure out in card counting system is what determines how BIG is long run? Simply put, how much does it take to show results? If you play, let's say, daily for 3-4 hours, is LONG RUN something like weeks, months, or years? or in betting terms: 30th, 50th, 250th shoe dealt? (considering you followed every rule perfectly)

Hi I'm wondering about a thing in the basic strategy. If I have a hard 12 and the dealer have 10 and I take a card and get 3 so I have 15 do I continue to take another card? And the same goes for A3 and the dealer have a 10 and I hit and get a 4 do I count my A,3,4 as a A7 then?

Hey Colin I’ve got a question for you. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and you do a great job explaining the mathematics behind the game. I know about 96% of the chart automatically for basic strategy. There are definitely tools on your website to help memorize the chart. My question is why not just bring a basic strategy card to the table? Every casino I’ve been to allows them and if I see a hand I’m unsure of I get it right 100% of the time. Where as without it I try to remember all the lines and remember the deviations on top of that. Wouldn’t bringing a card also make it look like you don’t really know what you are doing and make them less tipped off?

I only play at a table alone (plus a dealer). Assuming no worry about being backed off. If the true count is in my favor do I add 1 or 2 or 3 hands? How does a player have an edge over the house if I play 1 hand and the dealer plays 1 hand?

Let’s say there’s a 8 deck shoe, and the shuffler splits the cutting card in half but not exactly half, would that matter

So how much do u range the basic strategy like for say; the running count is 30 and you have an 16 hard hand against dealers 7- to ace. Then you stand right? The basic strategy is build around a running count on 0, with the odds for you to hit/burst as same for dealer. But when the running count change, the odds changes aswell. So is it possible to make a chart with the odds after like count on +20 or -20? The chart would then look a bit different right? and is dat how u play perfect BJ? I should follow the chart to a certain extend right? like if the count is really high, i should play after having dat i mind. Lets foresay i have 11 and double down when the count is high, cuz then the odds for getting 21 is bigger, but if i had on same count with a A4 to A6 hand, i shouldnt double like the chart says cuz the odds is not in my favor? like following it to certain extend? so if the count was minus 20 with 11, u wont double down but doube down on the A2 to A6? Please help

Well, as an amateur the logic I figured is- most people are afraid they'd bust when hitting a 16. Definitely. But the fact is, Ace has a much much lower odds of busting. So you gotta hit.

Question about Basic Strategy: do you double an 11 against a dealer's Ace, or no? Your Basic Strategy chart says to double all 11 vs any dealer hand. However, when you look at the S17 Deviation chart, it says to double the 11 vs dealer Ace when True Count is +1 or higher. Which is correct?

Question: I may be wrong on this but... Shouldn't the basic strategy also change accordingly to true count? Eg. If you were to have a negative count (real count), wouldn't it be safer to even hit on 17 (for argument sake) as it is more likely for you to get a lower value card and therefore not bust(?) Or the other way round, not hit because the real count is positive and there's a high chance of busting (?)

May I ask, I know it's a freebie, but nothing ventured, nothing gained: "Can you tell us which table versions of 21 you've found AP+PerfStrat+I18 has the best edge?" Or perhaps an easier and less cost-divisive way to phrase this, "Can you tell us which 21 variation table games to avoid as the strategy falls apart, or provides little to no path to get as close to the 0.5% that we all crave?" P.S. Your videos, personality, dedication, and general teaching of AP has hooked me and I dearly thank you for your work. Being not too close to a few casinos to employ AP, (hope to change that in the future) I shall keep you in mind when I'm ready to pull the trigger on training and boot camp!

Why are my shoes always negative? I've been playing blackjack for a few years and card counting for about a month, but every shoe has been negative, at best a true 1. So I'm wondering, are the shoes rigged(I doubt they would), is it just more often than not that the shoes goes neg rather than pos, or have I just been unlucky so far? There's probably a better place to ask this but I am really confused about this.

Why don’t casinos just have a table specifically for cad counters so instead of getting told to leave they just ask you to move to the card counter table and they get your name or whatever so you are only allowed on that table and if you go to other tables you get strikes and obviously 3 strikes and your out

I did a little blackjack game with 1 deck (I know that a normal game is played with 6 decks) and my first 2 cards were a 3 and a 4 wich is a hard total from 7. Can someone explain me if in a 6 decks blackjack game if it is possible to have a hard total from 7 or less with our 2 first cards and if yes what should I do ?
