Well this was a lot of fun! In this video I analyze Prince William and Katherine's engagement interview but do it by comparing it to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's interview. The insights are totally new as comparing the two really spotlights a whole bunch of differences.

One thing that is funny to me, is that in this interview, Harry baldly states that he had no idea who Meghan was, and had never seen 'Suits'. Then in 'Spare', written a few years later, he claims that William and Catherine were BIG fans of 'Suits', and knew all about her! How likely is that? My guess is that once they realized Harry was serious about Meghan, William and Catherine got a full briefing about her from whoever does background research for the Palace, and maybe they even watched a few episodes of Suits just to get a look at her. But nothing seems less likely to me than that they were avid fans.

Take everything written and said by both the Harkles with a big pinch of salt . It is now very obvious that they will create any scenario to put themselves in the best light possible. The first statement is correct and I see Madam`s hand in the second . Or perhaps Harry got it in the neck for NOT saying how wonderful and successful `Suits` is worldwide and saying it was watched by royalty must seem like a great accolade. In her deathbed memoirs ,the aging actress will be able to say " All the published books of the time say how even the whole Royal Family gathered round the Queen`s TV set to watch me ,in the most successful of all my filmed work" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Interesting that his remark about “upping his game” was in response to when he first saw her. It was based entirely on physical appearance; not conversation, not personality, not achievements, just looks. THAT was the best he could do? It was a very revealing comment. He was not smitten with love at first sight, it suggested mere lust, and from that moment he was easy prey. Lust enabled her to manipulate him all the way to the altar and showed just how shallow and stupid he is. Everyone saw it - William, Catherine , Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth, Camilla, many of his friends. Notably, not Charles at that point , but pretty much everyone around him saw what she was.

@@dede4004 Well said! She often refers to Suits as if she was the star. Personally I can’t even stand the stupid title which screams cable show. Her acting was not good enough to carry it as the star. It was passable for what she was, ie way down the cast list - in an ensemble cast🤣 In that interview, she referred to it as”my show” several times. It’s like that darn dish soap ad.- something that was not entirely her own work, but for which she takes more than her fair share of the credit. It’s a pattern. It’s astonishing that a mid 30s mediocre actress who was being written out of “her show” could beguile a dimwitted prince and get herself an international platform, then act like she was entitled to it and earned it in her own right.

I don’t think P. Wm. & Catherine were fans of Suits at all. It was much more likely that MM had everything to do with that bit being put into the ‘memoir’, just like she did with so many other dead giveaway portions of that gawd awfully stupid book.

There is a key reason for why Prince Edward & Prince William have had the most enduring, "successful" marriages (neither being divorced prior) in the British RF, aside from HLMTQ & Prince Philip, of course! Both couples dated for 8 years before they were engaged. So, on their wedding day, they were marrying someone that really was their best friend. Like Charles & Diana, Andrew & Fergie only dated 6 months before getting engaged. During those days, within aristocratic/noble circles once you've reached the 6th month mark, if a gentleman wanted to continue seeing the lady he was courting, it would be seen as rude not to seal the relationship with a ring & avoid being accused of "stinging her along". William refused to be pressured into marriage & he made 100% sure that Catherine was The One. William witnessed the breakdown of his parents marriages & the marriages of his aunts & uncles. When you see W&C together, they are incredibly in sync. They have so many shared interests, hobbies & friends. H&M have nothing in common & that has only gotten more & more evident in the last couple of years. Harry allowed his entire world to shrink in size to one that only he, his wife & mother-in-law, Dorito reside in, along with the 2 putative children. he allowed this to happen to appease a D List, former cable TV actress & pathological liar who, IMO is looking more & more rough lately.

Properly chuckled at “Dorito” 😂😂 Meghan studied Harry carefully and pretended to share his interests. She went to Africa with UNICEF, I believe, which we later found out was nothing more than a photo op. She packed several suitcases of clothes and stayed in luxurious hotels amidst posing for a few pictures mimicking Diana’s old pictures. As soon as Harry ate the bate, she dropped the African saviour act.

💯 agree. I find it weird that The Dorito is always around. The three of them in that house is quite a change for Harry. Maybe it explains a lot. It probably took an army of people in the royal household to keep him in line, keep him off the baccy and out of papers. Now he is making poor decisions, using as much as he wants, and has a wife who uses him and his royal fame to get publicity. Sad man. .

It also proves how Harry was interested firstly because of her attractiveness (I do not find him attractive at all and she would not have dated him if he wasn't a Prince). And she told Oprah 'I've never looked up my husband online'. Do people actually believe that nonsense? I don't understand the 'blind date' thing. Come on, your friend would have told you oh he's the Prince of England! Don't forget one of her majors at college was International Studies'. And she lived in a Commonwealth country for 7 years where The Queen is on some of the currency! Yes, the difference is astonishing!

It is all about pubic perception for her. There is nothing wrong with knowing of one another before actually meeting. William and Catherine actually joke about it, because they are both comfortable in knowing the truth. M must have the world believe her version, so emphasizes it.

Of note too, William teasing her/making her laugh may also be a distraction for HER. Him keeping a mental eye on her during the interview because he knows she's a bit nervous and she'd had a recent emotional hit - her grandfather had died between the time of their engagement and this interview. William mentions that it was a relief "especially the last 2 or 3 weeks" - he's referring to them waiting 2-3 weeks after they actually got engaged to tell everyone - even his press office staff. Catherine's grandfather suddenly became ill and passed away pretty quick after they got engaged. William wanted her and her family to have private time to grieve rather than be followed around with cameras and people asking how happy her parents must be for the engagement while one of them had just lost a parent.

Kate and will have been very trained in putting on a calm demenour without showing too much emotion, they want to be relatable but completely in control as that's what makes them regal. I remember watching the wedding and walking out william went to go full big smile at someone he saw, then I saw him supress it back down to a calm/controlled stoic face. That dignity and reservedness is what separates them as royal, william has always been good at it. Harry has no idea and they've cheapened themselves behaving how they have.

Nobody needed to "Train" Actual Princess Catherine - she's always been that way sweetie. (& she has been the (quiet) star of every School & Organisation she has ever been part of. Speaks Italian & French. Plays Piano v well. A World Class Rower & more (Also lived overseas twice, once in Jordan & one without her Family in Italian (& had travelled overseas extensively so wasn't fazed by any of that. (& Prince Wm chased her. Not the other way around)🙏🏻🇬🇧

In British (English) culture self-deprecation is considered to be an element of modesty. The way Prince William uses it is very English. Harry now takes it over the line where it becomes pathetic. Self-determination should be tongue in cheek and not looking for sympathy from others. It's amazing how quickly Harry became a shell of the person he was before Meghan. He was always the prankster and jovial. It's quite sad to revisit this interview and see what he had already become. I am not saying he was perfect, but before he had a sense of humour and fun about him.

Clearly Harry has a sense of inferiority and lack of self-worth, and Meghan picked up on that to take the dominant position in their relationship. It's bizarre that he has so little sense of his own status in the pecking order: he's a prince, and she's an over-the-hill show business nobody. Yet from the beginning, he's convinced that SHE's the big catch, and he's lucky to have gotten her. I think that was the source of a lot of his resentment, especially against his brother: that he wouldn't acknowledge that Harry had scored a better wife than William. Harry wanted everyone to realize that this time he'd beaten his older brother, and when they wouldn't, he was infuriated.

What is obvious is that Harry and Meghan had an agreement with each other about what they would say...eg how they met and about talking to his father. She jumps in and keeps to the scrip when ever she is frightened about what Harry might say. Harry knows when she is lying and is happy to go along with the lies.

He’s a dull, slow speaker. A full, slow thinker too. I think if he had married a loving, caring woman who supported him rather than just building his ego so that he relied on her for validation, he would have had the chance to develop his kinder side. MeAgain brought out all the anger and hatred and mean spirit in Harry.

I think he also blamed the press for those two not agreeing to marry him…instead of seeing his own faults, it’s always someone else’s fault. Harry had this cocky attitude pre-MeGain of “I AM A PRINCE! The last eligible bachelor prince and there is no way they wouldn’t want to marry me bc of ME - it’s bc the press was too much and ran them off!”

On point assessment. It's so obvious to me that Harry totally uncomfortable about the interview - like he was afraid to say anything wrong that M would disapprove. H&M interview sounds more like a job interview - where often you feel the need to project fake confidence and all positive views. William & Catherine showed normal nervousness yet excitement to be engaged.

Everyone knew Prince and Princess of Wales relationship and their love story but Meghan and Harry have said different stories how they met. It’s rehearsed version they presented and it’s why it’s a bit awkward and he seeks Meghan’s approval. she is so keen of to say she didn’t know who he was. You’re spot on about your analysis with both couples. Prince William and Princess Catherine showed class, integrity, honesty, healthy attachment, and you can tell that they’ve been through the whole process of falling in love, overcoming obstacles, and being a great partner for each other through the years. They exude calmness, connectedness, love, and excitement for their relationship. You can tell the difference. H8M’s story is filled with lies, contradictions, their vibe is off from the beginning. And her controlling the narrative (a lot of lying and pretending that she didn’t know him is a bunch of crap)… Nobody’s buying the idea that she didn’t Google Harry. He’s such an easy target due to his own insecurities, resentment, anger, and lack of confidence. M’s trying way too hard to convince the public that she’s a catch. Yeah, right. Try again M. 😂

The biggest difference is the smile on their face..William and Kathrine tried to hide their happiness and got a half-smile this way and it was similar on their face...so similar...whilst I did not see that smile on face of Harry....Meghan smiled but there her smile was prideful.

By "insular" in this context, are you referring simply to the location of the United States and its enormous size, or are you suggesting that Americans generally only care about America? Because, while there is some truth to the latter idea, I can assure you that most US adults have traveled to other countries, that many of us have family members who live in other countries, and some of us were even born in other countries. So, no, I don't think we're quite so insular as many Europeans seem to think we are.

Seriously, most Americans absolutely knew who the RF was. Most of us were captivated, especially by Princess Diana, and devastated by her death and for her beautiful sons. We were so happy that H found someone, and then when I saw this interview, it was a big uh-oh, between the lies and her talking over him and interrupting him constantly.

I have travelled with people from the US in Europe though and that's where I experienced your insularity. The obvious ignorance displayed was on another level. Americans walking around Rome looking for a Starbucks, upset they couldn't find a 'normal coffee'. As for your enormous size I come from a country that is the same size, so again I reiterate - insular.

I agree! I’ve only just found your channel but you are incredibly insightful. All the things and events I’ve seen you review are old, commonly known and well talked about, yet because you offer fresh understanding and insight I’ve really enjoyed watching your videos. I love some of your comments and where you compare actions and incidents between the two couples where you can directly compare the two distinct approaches and clearly see how they both are different. It just plainly exposes the stark differences the two have and what they each find important to present.

Omg, you have so nailed this. This weird woke culture is not about not being vulnerable or even human particularly. It’s about complaining aggressively, hypocritically (those private jets and designer clothes) mostly for PR purposes, from the vantage point of a whining ivory tower. I don’t have any strong views about the royal family 🇬🇧 for or against. But I find the whole M&H debacle an unparalleled example of the narcissism in modern culture. Amazing, keep it up! PS. He’s so lying that he knew nothing about her!! He looked her up - or at least her photo lol - or was told lots about her.

Not making excuses for Harry Prince but he has always been in Will-yum's shadow; William is the academic, handsome, suave, accomplished one while Harry struggled in school and in the military; had it not been for TRF he would not have "succeeded" with either. It also didn't help that William is the spitting image of his late mother. And Harry? Well who DOES Harry look like? It's obvious in SPARE that that is a sore spot for Harry.

That’s true although the public always adored Harry. He was the younger brother who was only a little boy when he lost his mother. He was the fun one, the joker and the more relatable one. William was seen as a bit uptight, largely by no fault of his own but simply because he grew up with the responsibility of one day becoming the King. I think Harry would have been the most popular royal had he married a nice, funny, down to Earth English girl.

That's the crazy thing. Harry is the spitting image of Charles and Philip, even more apparant as he gets older. He has the same narrow bridge of nose and close set eyes as his Windsor side but the stormy, turbulent Spencer nature.

She sold the lie to harry that she was a jet set business woman/philathropist/A list actress. She had told him on the first meet that she had a business meeting to get to, we now know she had met piers morgan for a drink before meeting harry. And was probably either flat out lying about having a business meeting to appear busy and important or it was another potential "mark" she had lined up for the day!!

She says it was a blind date, yet they were in Soho house, her friend Marcus Anderson's club. I think Harry was set up by the two of them. She's like one of those club hostesses men pay to sit at their table, there is no genuine warmth, so she grabs his hand instead.

I can say that a HEALTHY dose of confidence is important for any man to have if he wants to attract women. One of my first relationships was with a guy who was so self deprecating that it became depressing. It’s understandable if a man has his insecure moments, but flashing it around like a badge of honor just screams attention issues. This should be universal, but women typically appreciate a man who is willing to work on himself, we all have flaws but there is a respect factor to those who put in the extra work to improve themselves to earn a position that helps them advance.

William is just very calming yet confident…I find that quite reassuring and sexy in a man. Harry on the other hand seems like he’s constantly requiring nurturing, guidance…”a Mother figure” almost. I don’t know if that’s Meghan’s influence or if he’s always been this way. But there’s been several women who have turned him down🤷🏽‍♀️.
