We're Eamon and Bec, a Canadian couple who previously lived and traveled full-time in our self converted Sprinter Van!! When the pandemic hit in 2020 we made the difficult decision to abandon our van in Africa and fly home to Canada. Six weeks ago we flew back to Morocco to rescue our van and last week we left it again to come back for a medical procedure (more on that next episode). This week we're sharing what it's like to live in the Canadian wilderness during winter!

We've always envisioned moving into the woods by the lake and building our dream tiny cabin as a home base for us to come back to in between our international van life travels. i feel unusually seen! my husband is military & was diagnosed with PTSD which makes sharing a bed difficult (and dangerous) for us. it is hard to accept we need to sleep separately despite not wanting too. thanks for normalizing that sometimes we are all better with a little space

We sleep separately too, I'm a really light sleeper and a much nicer person on a full night of sleep, so my husband is okay with it 😉

Sleeping seperate helps with the dream time. When always together it is hard to see who is influencing the dream time. So having time sleeping apart is good. When Eamon mentioned that he was sleeping up strairs what tweeked for me was, why? Is it to help your rest Bec? When you are touching cancer it is important that you pull back and reserve your energy for healing yourself.

Dear Eamon and Bec, I usually end my week by watching your video. KZfaq suggests it to me as soon as its uploaded. Yesterday, I opened the KZfaq app to watch this week's video and it was not there. I thought KZfaq had forgotten to suggest it to me. So I searched for it . Since yesterday, I've searched it many times and I've been thinking why have you not uploaded this Sunday. Then I remembered that you two had come back home for Bec's illness. I hope you are doing well our sweet bec. We are worried for you . Love the cabin vibes! As for the mice, I highly recommend getting catch and release traps for the little critters. Those have always worked great for me and the little mouse gets to see another day :)

Please, please try those ultrasonic rodent repellers! They plug in a regular outlet and we know people who use them in their cottages and have no mouse issues. The live traps are awful 😪

Oh yeah thats mouse poo. We always get them in the winter. Traps (that can catch them without killing ) and then drive them a few blocks from the house and release.

My grandmother lived 1500 miles away. When we came to visit, she made.a pot of spaghetti that started out as fresh veggies from her garden. It is decades later and I am still craving a second plate of it. It was that good. Seeing your winters makes me grateful my parents moved to the west coast here in the states

Hey there! Happy you two made it back safely to the cabin! For the mice: maybe you could try some humane traps? I know it doesn’t seem like it, but Old school snap ya neck clamps are a little cruel. Lots of humane options out there these days tho! Give it a google friends! 🐁 ❤️

Please do not use cruel mouse traps: “Sometimes, it only crushes the nose, a leg, or the soft underbelly of a mouse. If a snap trap connects with a part of the (animal)’s body, death will eventually follow. The dying process could take a very long time, and the animal will be in extreme pain throughout the ordeal”. Instead, here is an example of a catch and release trap: Harris Catch and Release Humane Mouse Trap (2-Pack)-2EMT-LIVE - The Home Depot Hope you consider a more humane approach! Thanks!

About 10 years ago, I was introduced to the concept of "all weather tires." They're not all season tires, and are actually winter rated, but intended to keep on all year. They are softer, so wear faster that keeping 2 sets of tires in circulation, but they're a really good option if your car doesn't see a lot of distance. I drive about 8-10k per year, and mostly in winter, anyway, when biking is less fun.

There are non-lethal methods of catching mice. You don't have to kill them. There are some good articles on the PETA website that explain how to catch and relocate mice without harming them.

Totally agree, I've caught them with humane traps and smiled when I set them free far away. That could have made a lovely video from Eamon. Just butchered them now. I don't get it with Eamon. About my grandmother - I once caught a rainbow trout in a mountain stream using a piece of red string, a found hook, and a juicy black cricket. My Texan g'ma fried it in cornmeal.

Favorite food that brings me back to childhood: My Grandma lived in Brooklyn and retired in Maine. My sister and I spent a July with her in Maine when I was 10. One day, she sent us out with a bucket to collect wild blueberries. We pick A LOT! After dinner she put them ALL in a pot on the stove and made warm blueberry syrup to put over vanilla ice cream. 🤤🍨

I didn’t expect to cry like a baby when you mentioned Pirogies Bec. I’m polish and growing up every Christmas me and my grandma alongside her mother would sit down at the kitchen table for HOURS hand rolling, stuffing, pinching pirogies. It was a holiday tradition and childhood memory I hold so close to my heart. ❤️❤️❤️ thank you for sharing that small moment. I totally get the whole feeling sleepy early! Here in Denmark this time of year the daylight hours are from 8:30 to 15:30 and most days it’s even grey and cloudy in that timespan. It definitely is hard, but then we get the beautiful long summer nights🌞 for the food that makes me think of my grandma; they are mostly traditional dishes, such as danish meatballs or I always have tea at my grandmas, so also tea☕️ 🫖

Absolutely love watching you guys. It also makes me incredibly homesick for Canada hearing your accents amd listening to the crunch of snow under your feet. If I close my eyes and breathe deeply i can imagine the crisp Canadian air, i know people think im crazy when i say the air smells different. Just want to say thank you for reading and responding to the comments. You are such an awesome couple, and with as many followers as you have and as many adventures as you get up to, it is incredible to me that a) have any time, and b) you make the effort to stay connected to the people who love you. It is sad that not many people do that. Welcome back to your cozy cabin! Also, thank you for sharing your memories of your Grandma...I never had one, so it is special to hear about them from others.

Awe thanks Kate!! There's something really comforting and special about being home at the cabin after spending 6 weeks away! We are feeling very grateful (even if it's -10 outside lol)

I’m 58, and I go to bed pretty much whenever I feel like it. Sometimes it’s 6pm, sometimes 9pm, sometimes 2 am……… One thing that’s been a huge game changer for us, to sleep better, has been that we now have a king size bed ( we started out in a twin(!!!) during hubby’s college days, moved on to a double, then a queen, and now a king, which I wish we had done back with pregnancies), and we each have our own single, extra long comforter 😊, so no more fighting for blankets 😉😁

Hi found you because I've breast cancer. I hope you're doing well. I'll binge watch to catch up. We've been to Canada, we're from Ireland. Travelled across Rockies to vancouver and then the island. Most amazing scenic country in the world. Cousin lives there with her husband. Xx

I love the travel videos but the cabin life is just so relaxing and hits home as a fellow Canadian the magical snow by the fire infront of the huge windows in your home would be my spot!!

Love the cabin.. there's another trick on catching Mouse.. 8 gallon bucket up with water put a stick going through the top put peanut butter on the middle of the stick but the idea.. is the stick is going through the top of the bucket through two holes so it can still spin around when the mouse gets on the stick to get the peanut butter he spins around falls in the water..sad but works..put out at night when sleeping.. weird but I seen it on KZfaq lol 😋 Cheers love watching u guys never do i comment but I had to say I wish u nothing but good health Bec. I hope you guys know how inspirational you are, I recently found your channel through Kara and Nate and being a fellow Canadian (aw heck ya bud) your personalities and adventures really resonated with me. I recently have been going through health problems similar to you Bec, which is another thing I really connected with. I love how positive and genuine you and Eamon are and your outlooks on life from the lense of your camera. I recently had surgery and bingeing your videos really really helped, I know you mentioned having surgery yourself so since I don't have an entertaining uplifting channel for you to binge I'll just say I'm sending you the most positive vibes ❤️ ⭐

Good luck to you too during this time!! 4 yrs ago, at this same time I went through a long process to get a diagnosis, and major biopsy surgery (lead to Feb treatment). The long nights helped with lowering anxiety, healing and rest.

Hay Bec (and Eamon), luv the videos. I'm a little behind, congrats on the 1M. You've probably figured this out already, but tie a string to the trap trigger and lace the string with peanut butter. Works every time.

The cabin looks so warm and cozy, especially the loft with the projector. Your next project should be the "gym", insulate it and make it warmer! aha Also Bec, my nan and I use to make these oatmeal and raisin cookies when I was a kid. She has dementia now so she doesn't fully remember the recipe.
