I knew exploring southern Utah during February was a crap shoot. Weather could be unpredictable. During this video we hit one of the worst blizzards the area had seen in 30 years. Luckily, our Grizzly Cubic Wood Stove kept us warm and we were able to make it a great experience.

Years ago, we hunted deer in NYS's Adirondack Mountains. We towed a popup trailer behind a 1969 GMC Jimmy in late fall, early winter. Snowfall was often heavy with lake effect snow coming off Lake Ontario. Winter averaged 200 inches a year. We were 5 miles in from plowed maintained road and 2 miles in from a decent gravel road. The 2 mile logging road was over steep solid granite rock, thru beaver sloughs, mudholes with inches of ice which broke under us and up to a foot of snow. We always put chains on all four wheels before heading in to be prepared before we got stuck. We sometimes had to use the winch. We had log chains, tow straps, clevises, spade shovels, snow shovels, axes, chain saws, wedges, pry bars, high lift jacks, ropes, and snatch blocks. No one was going to come help us so we had to be prepared to help ourselves. What we mostly had was 40 years of experience going in with a box trailer towed by a 2WD small farm tractor and people who were from a family of loggers. They had to cross a river and go in a mile deeper to a cabin. They expected to get stuck somewhere along the way.

The southwest is beautiful in the winter times (this includes Utah). I've lived in northern Montana where the temps one winter day was -45! Being from AZ that's a bit chilly! But in AZ we do get our bad winter days as well and I have been in Flagstaff AZ in a white out blizzard and know how stressful that can be for driving! It's definitely nice to have a camper with a wood burning stove and conveniences of a shower and toilet. Thanks for sharing!

Love the video. I’m still working on getting to that national park. Love to make it during the winter time but my wife says no. Love the camper looks like you built it and it works perfectly for you. One problem 15 years in Propane delivery experience. Whether it’s a 1 pounder 20 pounder, 30 pounder 100 pounder. Do not store them in you’re living area. Use them and put them back outside. Put them in one of those wood bins. It looks like a tire fill up on the propane tank. That’s the pressure release valve. And one pounders are very touchy. Because of the little amount of propane that’s in it. It gets affected by the hot and cold very easily. And I do not wanna see or hear that you went to sleep and something was wrong with the 1 pounder because you won’t know Until it blows its pressure relief valve in that little camper with that fire going.

LOVE YOUR TRIP,! but one little trick with the snow, i carry 1, 5 gal bucket of road salt , and put it in front and rear of the tires , so when your ready to move you have a run way to start off. also i use LUCUS OIL CERAMIC WAX ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TRUCK AND TRAILER,, instead of hauling snow with you it just sliced off the truck/trailer, .

Ditch the 20” wheels for the winter get some 16’s with a 33” or a 35” tire, the duratracs are good in snow but i would rather have a MT tire. I run Firestone destination MT 2’s they are even stud able! You can pull about half of your air out as long as you’re going slow and it’s cold and then when you’re locked you won’t get stuck. You want portable air to air back up when you need it. In MN we had a #7 in historic snowfall, it felt like we we’re always driving in it. But if you’re from Canada you know, just keep the bro wheels for summer.

From Minnesota so I can sympathize with the cold. Nice camper design, I only question the Wood Stove? Estatically pleasing, but practical, carrying cord of wood, clearances, and cleaning out ash. Would a propane or oil furnace be more useful? Thinking of a circulating fan and temp control

I hope you don't take these as negative comments. But I sure hope you didn't wrap that winch line around that tree, they make thick nylon "tree savers" for your winch line. Also invest in an onboard air compressor. You basically shoveled away what would have given you traction, and just exposed the ice underneath if you would have just let some air out of your tires (around 15PSI). From what I could see there was barely any snow on the ground and really the only reason to dig would be if it was so deep you were getting high centered somewhere. Also using your maxxtraxx to reverse a bit to get a running start also may have been a better option, or consider using them instead under the front tires. It's always a good idea if you're going thru any area that may have snow and you plan on camping, carry a bag of rock salt with you. Anyway, thanks for the video :)

To start your wood fire, if you will get the heart out of some pine trees, you wont need to cut or shave any wood. Get the center part of a pine tree close to the ground as it is very flamable. You dont need any big chunks...golf ball size is more than enough. Now the pine is also very sticky so you might want to wear some gloves. My spelling of what this stuff is called is "rich-lauter pine." Some places sell this stuff, but if not, fine a pine tree stump...get your axe and chop it out.

Some people love it super excited and other people get all nasty complaining about how its all redone and not factory. Nothing in my camper now is 12 volt.
